| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Name | Plague Exterminator (灭疫士) |
| Occupation/Role | Specialists who use Plague Extermination Arts, medical knowledge, and dedicated equipment to combat pestilence and disease transformation. 37 346 |
| First Appearance | Chapter 4, “Plague Exterminator” 4 |
Role and Function
Plague Exterminators are humanity's specialized force against Pestilence. Official-level practitioners form the principal combat force in extermination operations, using spiritual power to perform Plague Extermination Arts. 346
Their work is not limited to direct combat:
- Epidemic prevention — resisting infection, suppressing pathogenization, and protecting populated areas. 37 103
- Clinical treatment — treating injuries and illness through specialized medical Arts and surgical procedures. 450
- Research — studying disease structures, pathogens, and Plague Extermination Arts. 44 86
- Epidemic warfare — operating in coordinated Epidemic War Corps against powerful pestilences and their complications. 273
Known Ranks and Qualifications
| Designation | Documented standard |
|---|---|
| Apprentice Plague Exterminator | An early professional level; apprentices may possess basic equipment and training but can be unable to handle threats requiring an Intern. 13 44 |
| Intern Plague Exterminator | Capable of dealing with threats beyond apprentices, such as breaching a Throat Beast's fevered epidermis. 13 |
| Official-level Plague Exterminator | The highest tier within an Epidemic Prevention Center's ordinary hierarchy; Official-level practitioners use spiritual power systematically and are regarded as true Plague Exterminators. 37 346 |
| Formal rank | Practitioners at this level must begin specializing deeply in a chosen medical path; Plague Masks are generally used from this rank onward. 38 169 |
| Lead Surgeon | A higher threshold reached through deep specialization; its practitioners wield substantially more advanced Plague Extermination Arts. 169 793 |
| Chief Surgeon Grade | An elite grade represented by figures such as Qi Chongxiao; Chief Surgeon-level Arts include advanced abilities such as passive Whole Blood Recovery. 82 274 |
| Human Dragon / Title Class | Exceptional high-end designations associated with the world's foremost combatants. 1050 1086 |
Standard Equipment
A complete Plague Exterminator is defined by a three-piece set treated as an extension of their limbs. 37
| Item | Function |
|---|---|
| Plague Armor | Resists disease erosion and pathogenization. Superior armor can improve Plague Extermination Arts, suppress worsening pathogenization, and provide special effects such as self-cleaning or indestructibility. 37 103 |
| Plague Mask | Protects the face and mouth from infection; higher-grade masks can reduce disease transformation, conceal the wearer, and enhance thought. 37 224 |
| Plague-Slaying Blade | A controlled weapon used to perform practical Plague Extermination Arts and Clinical Martial Arts against disease. 37 38 |
Plague Armorization
Plague Exterminators above the Formal rank may integrate custom-made Plague Armor into their bodies and manifest it through special techniques rather than wearing it conventionally. 38
Plague-Slaying Blades
- Orthodox Plague Exterminators regard blades as essential equipment. 868
- A practitioner who reaches the Pathogen level through the Power of Pestilence normally loses blade recognition permanently. 82
- The Bird-Beak Doctor path is an exception, allowing its user to wield a Plague-Slaying Blade while using the Power of Pestilence. 175 311
Disciplines
Plague Exterminators specialize in medical fields whose traits shape their combat style and research direction. 169
| Discipline | Distinguishing traits |
|---|---|
| Heart | Enhances the heart to improve overall physical ability; highly compatible with other disciplines. 173 175 |
| Blood | Noted for recovery, endurance, defense, and prolonged combat capability. 215 |
| Ophthalmology | Suited to long-range attacks and wide operational fields. 169 215 |
| Neurology | Improves coordination, thought speed, and the efficiency of spiritual-power conduction. 253 |
| Orthopedics | Known for aggressive frontline combat with heavy weapons such as hammers and bone saws. 169 |
| Obstetrics and Gynecology | A recognized mainstream field capable of applying debilitating statuses and specialized attacks. 245 405 |
| Proctology / Colorectal Medicine | Specializes in Pathogenized Objects and possesses unusually high resistance to pathogenization. 435 437 |
Other specialized professions—including forensic doctors, hypnotists, and veterinarians—are classified separately from the mainstream medical disciplines. 435
Abilities and Practices
Plague Extermination Arts
Plague Extermination Arts are techniques founded on spiritual power, medical knowledge, clinical experience, and research into pestilence. 44 108
- Arts can be improved through greater spiritual power, accumulated knowledge, clinical practice, and firsthand exposure to plague. 44
- Observing a pestilence can grant new Arts and medical knowledge. 86
- Unlike the Power of Pestilence, properly understood Plague Extermination Arts do not carry its inherent pathogenization side effects. 99
- Higher-level practitioners generally narrow their research into one or several specialties to gain stable, systematic combat power. 169 346
Power of Pestilence
Some Plague Exterminators wield the Power of Pestilence directly, using disease transformation to gain destructive abilities. They remain officially recognized Plague Exterminators, but normally cannot use Plague-Slaying Blades. 803
- Direct use rapidly increases the user's Pathogenization Index. 245
- Maintaining high pathogenization grants power but risks complete transformation into a monster. 82 803
- A completely pathogenized individual cannot be saved through ordinary means. 770
- The Bird-Beak Doctor path is a rare exception to the usual incompatibility between Pestilence power and Plague-Slaying Blades. 175
Pathogenized Objects
Pathogenized Objects are strategic resources with special abilities, but they are also sources of pathogenization and can dissipate over time. 435
- Proctology Plague Exterminators can reduce their harmful effects through powerful digestive systems. 435
- Their discipline converts the Plague-Slaying Blade into a personal Pathogenized Object and uses smaller objects as combat tools. 435
- Such methods carry greater pathogenization risk but can inflict disease-like effects without directly raising the user's Pathogenization Index through the Power of Pestilence. 436
Organizations and Society
Epidemic Prevention Centers
Epidemic Prevention Centers employ both ordinary staff and Plague Exterminators. Clerical workers occupy the lowest labor tier, while Official-level Plague Exterminators stand at the top of the local hierarchy. 37
Epidemic War Corps
Epidemic War Corps combine Plague Exterminators from different disciplines. Their coordination is considered essential against Dragon-class Pestilences and the numerous complications those entities command. 273
Dark Plague Extermination World
Not all Plague Exterminators serve official institutions. Underground practitioners are often more experienced in plague combat and more willing to take risks, though their methods may be unpredictable or criminal. 192 740
Limitations and Risks
- A Plague Exterminator's spiritual power is finite; even specialists in sustained combat cannot fight an endless tide of pestilence indefinitely. 931
- Rank suppression is a major factor in combat, especially when an apprentice faces a Pathogen-level enemy. 99
- Most Plague Exterminators do not personally exterminate Pestilence or treat patients, fearing infection and disease transformation. 192
- Plague Symbiotes differ from ordinary Plague Exterminators: they cannot use Plague-Slaying Blades, Plague Armor, or Plague Masks, and their symbiotic pestilence may ultimately dominate them. 805
