Background

Tsunade is the granddaughter of Senju Hashirama and Uzumaki Mito. After Hashirama’s death, Mito raised Tsunade and her younger brother, Nawaki. Tsunade deeply respects Mito and is conscious of the losses her grandmother has endured. 4 5

At eighteen, Tsunade is one of Konoha’s three foremost young geniuses, a disciple of Sarutobi Hiruzen, and heir to the Senju bloodline. Before earning any later reputation, she is assigned to lead a thousand-man force during the Second Shinobi World War alongside Jiraiya and Orochimaru. 1 4

She encounters Uchiha Xiao when he collapses during his Sharingan awakening. Rather than return the Uchiha outcast to his clan, Tsunade carries him to the Senju ancestral residence, where Mito takes him in. 1
