In fact, this technique was specifically designed to counter the Sharingan. The best way to counter the Sharingan was to make sure its user couldn't see anything. It was easy to imagine how instrumental the Bringer-of-Darkness Technique had been when the Senju Clan defeated the Uchiha Clan. (It was worth noting that in the manga, this technique was created by the First, Hashirama Senju, while in the anime, it was the Second Hokage, Senju Tobirama.)

"How is Youzo?" Hanzo the Salamander asked, keeping his gaze on Chiba.

"Young Master Katsuzuki is with Youzo. Youzo... took a slash to his right arm, but he'll be back on the battlefield soon," Hanzo's Left Hand replied.
