Background / History

Haku was born in a remote, snowbound village in the Land of Water. Her mother concealed her Kekkei Genkai out of fear that the villagers would persecute the family. When Haku inherited the same ability, her father exposed the secret, led villagers to their home, and participated in her mother's murder. In terror, Haku awakened Ice Release and killed the attackers, including her father, leaving her orphaned. She later wandered the Land of Water in poverty and eventually encountered Zabuza. 40

Shi Xiu and Obito found Haku being beaten by Mist Village ninja during their mission in Kirigakure. Obito killed the attackers, while Haku remained notably calm amid the violence and gave Shi Xiu her name. 35 Shi Xiu later asked her to leave with him. Haku initially refused, correctly reasoning that Shi Xiu would not have asked permission if he meant to take her by force; she accepted after he explained that he needed dependable help against future enemies. She pledged to become “the sharpest blade” in his hand. 36

Haku accompanied Shi Xiu and Obito during their confrontation with Yagura and returned with them to Konoha. There, she struggled with the belief that she brought misfortune to others, while also adapting to the village's safety and prosperity. 38 39

During the Takigakure operation, Haku fought village ninja with Ice Release before sacrificing herself to stop one of three black-clad attackers targeting Shi Xiu. Her ice needle pierced both her and the attacker, killing her. Shi Xiu preserved her body in ice and later used the Outer Path — Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique to restore her to life. 50 52 55 56

After her revival, Haku revealed that she was a girl. Haku has snow-white skin, willow-leaf eyebrows, large watery eyes, and soft shoulder-length hair. Her delicate features frequently lead others to mistake her for a girl even before her reveal. 36 39
