History

Yu Xiaogang held the Dean of Academic Affairs post at Notting Academy and was celebrated locally as the “Wise One.” At soul power level 33, he promoted theories about martial soul evolution. When Lan Yu and Tang Shan enrolled with innate full soul power, he offered to take them as disciples and claimed he could guide Tang Shan’s Haotian Flood Dragon toward a stronger form 3 4 16 17.

He later tried to tutor Tang Shan and Xiao Wu while Lan Yu was away. After the children obtained their first soul rings without him, he confronted Lan Yu over their choices. Tang Shan and Xiao Wu defeated him with their first soul skills; Lan Yu challenged his claims, and the humiliation became public. Xiaogang left Notting Academy the next morning 10 16 17.

Xiaogang subsequently served as vice dean at Blue Tyrant Academy. After he was seriously injured in an attack by Pufferfish, he and Liu Erlong slipped out of Heaven Dou City. He hoped to reunite their Golden Iron Triangle with Fulan Ya and use its strength to pursue leadership of the troubled Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan 40 75 76.

At Shrek Academy, Xiaogang secured a teaching position through Liu Erlong’s influence with Fulan Ya and sought to take Ma Hongjun as his disciple. The triangle later fought together against Ge Long, but its Golden Sacred Dragon fusion was weaker than before because Xiaogang’s attempts to alter Liu Erlong’s martial soul had damaged it. Fulan Ya disrupted the fusion, leaving Xiaogang gravely injured 103 134.

After news arrived that the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan had been destroyed, Xiaogang urged Liu Erlong to restore the fusion skill and avenge it. Liu Erlong and Fulan Ya later became hostile toward him and kept him tied up because they still needed him for the skill. He escaped to a Spirit Hall branch, where he fabricated claims about his identity and connections in an attempt to reach Pope Bibi Han in Spirit City 135 136.

Appearance

Xiaogang is described as plain-looking, with thick, unruly hair repeatedly compared to a bird’s nest 16 17 91.

• His distinctive hairstyle allows Su Yue to recognize him even while he lies on the floor 17.
• Ma Hongjun later burns the hair on top of his head during a confrontation 103.

Personality

Xiaogang is eager to prove his theories through talented students. He treats Lan Yu’s independent decisions about soul rings as a threat to that goal, while Lan Yu considers his advice unsound 3 10 16. His ambition later shifts toward becoming sect master; he presses Liu Erlong to reconcile him with Fulan Ya despite knowing they have broken apart 75 76.

He can be manipulative when under pressure. At Shrek, he uses Liu Erlong’s access to Fulan Ya to obtain a post and pursue Ma Hongjun as a disciple. During his flight to Spirit Hall, he invents several stories to persuade a deacon to send him onward 103 136.

Luo Sanpao

Xiaogang’s martial soul is Luo Sanpao, a purple piglet described as a malignant mutation of the Golden Sacred Dragon 16.

• His soul power is level 33 during the Notting Academy arc 4 16.
• Despite his rank, Tang Shan’s first soul skill presses him to the ground and then launches him into the air 16.

Martial Soul Theory

Xiaogang teaches that choosing soul beasts with stronger bloodlines can drive martial soul evolution, even when their attributes do not match. He specifically claims Tang Shan’s Haotian Flood Dragon could evolve into a Clear Sky Azure Dragon or Clear Sky Divine Dragon by following his theory 4 9.

• He seeks gifted disciples to demonstrate his theories 3 16.
• Lan Yu disputes his disregard for martial soul compatibility and rejects his authority over the children’s first soul rings 10 16.

Golden Iron Triangle

Together with Liu Erlong and Fulan Ya, Xiaogang can form the Golden Iron Triangle and use its martial soul fusion skill, Golden Sacred Dragon 75 134.

• The fusion once rivaled a Titled Douluo, but reaches only Soul Douluo-level power during the clash with Ge Long after Liu Erlong’s martial soul is damaged 134.
• It requires the three members to cooperate; Fulan Ya’s deliberate disruption leaves Xiaogang severely injured 134.

• Lan Yu — Prospective disciple who rejects his guidance, challenges his theories, and publicly humiliates him at Notting Academy 3 16 17.
• Tang Shan and Xiao Wu — Gifted students he tries to recruit or tutor; they defeat him after he confronts Lan Yu 10 16.
