Background / History

Xiao Wu enrolls in Notting Academy's Dorm Seven, where she initially seeks Tang Shan's bed and challenges the unequal treatment given to other students with innate full soul power. After Tang Shan lends her bedding, Xiao Wu begins living alongside Tang Shan and Lan Yu. 4 6

Her curiosity about Lan Yu leads her to follow him at night, exposing her presence to Ah Yin. Frightened of being killed or imprisoned for her spirit bone, Xiao Wu reveals that she is a transformed hundred-thousand-year Moonlight Jade Rabbit from the Star Dou Great Forest. Ah Yin accepts her as a human rather than treating her as prey and offers future protection. 7

Over the following years, Xiao Wu becomes integrated into Lan Yu and Tang Shan's family, accepts Ah Yin as her godmother, and starts calling Lan Yu her older brother. She supports Lan Yu's proposal to create “New Humans” able to cultivate rapidly and condense soul rings, seeing it as a possible future for spirit beasts. 13 17

Xiao Wu calls Er Ming, the Titan Giant Ape, to help Lan Yu find a Purple Scale Qi Flood Dragon for his first spirit ring. While in the forest, Xiao Wu accompanies the Three-Eyed Golden Lion when the Imperial Auspicious Beast follows a powerful pull of fate. She is reunited with Lan Yu and Tang Shan after the Three-Eyed Golden Lion reaches them, and she openly cries at seeing Lan Yu again. 68 70

At the Love-Hate Yin-Yang Well, Xiao Wu consumes the Resentment Burning Heart Profound and Lovesick Heartbreak Red. The herbs raise her Soul Power from its prolonged level-23 stagnation to level 30, evolve her Martial Soul, and awaken her God of Love inheritance. She subsequently enters the well with Lan Yu to retrieve the divine artifact connected to her inheritance. 76

Beneath the well, Xiao Wu and Lan Yu enter a sealed underground chamber containing a black coffin. Despite her bravado, she is emotionally vulnerable. Ah Yin's kindness reminds her of her mother, and Xiao Wu longs for belonging with Lan Yu and Tang Shan. Her growing attachment to them is mixed with jealousy toward Tang Shan's closeness with Lan Yu. 7 8 10
