Background / History

Ning Fengzhi presides over the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and places great importance on its future talent. At the sect's martial soul awakening ceremony, he is initially dissatisfied by the generally low innate soul power among the children. His mood changes completely when his daughter, Ning Rongrong, awakens innate level-nine soul power—the highest recorded for the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Pagoda. He publicly celebrates by rewarding everyone present with ten thousand gold soul coins. 2

He recognizes Han Yu's value after Han Yu awakens twin martial souls and innate full soul power. Believing Han Yu's sword-type martial soul makes him suited to Chen Xin's instruction, Ning Fengzhi asks whether Han Yu wishes to become Sword Douluo's disciple and later facilitates his introductions to Chen Xin and Gu Rong. 3 5 6

Ning Fengzhi formally appoints Han Yu as the sect's Holy Son, granting him authority second only to his own. In his announcement, he emphasizes Han Yu's origins as the orphan of two sect deacons, his resilience, and his devotion to the sect. 19

He later accompanies Han Yu and Ning Rongrong to Heaven Dou Empire territory to broaden their horizons and reinforce the alliance between the empire and the sect. Although Han Yu warns him that the empire may be unreliable, Ning Fengzhi does not accept the warning, believing cooperation among factions is necessary against Spirit Hall's hostility. 19 20

At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, Ning Fengzhi declines to consume celestial herbs merely for himself after consulting the Ye Family Records, choosing instead to reserve them for sect members better suited to each herb. Han Yu consequently revises his view of Ning Fengzhi as solely profit-driven, recognizing his ambition and commitment to the sect's interests. 27

Personality

Ning Fengzhi normally presents himself as solemn, composed, and dignified, particularly in his role as sect master. His restraint gives way to open excitement when Ning Rongrong's talent exceeds his expectations, revealing his deep affection and pride as her father. 2

He is strategic and ambitious in sect affairs. He actively gathers powerful talent and allies—supporting Han Yu's elevation, seeking to meet the hidden soul master at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, and considering recruits who could increase the sect's strength. 19 22

Despite his political focus, he is protective of those under his care. He arranges Ning Rongrong's return to the sect under the cover of a feigned attack, intervenes alongside Gu Rong when the Star Luo Emperor attempts to impose a marriage on Han Yu, and supports Han Yu's future pursuit of hundred-thousand-year soul rings. 27 51 52
