Background

Hai Bodong was once a Dou Huang known as the Ice Emperor and one of the Jia Ma Empire's ten strongest experts. By the time Xiao Yan summons him, his cultivation is sealed, leaving him at Three-Star Dou Ling. A mysterious power offers him a contract: it will help restore his peak in return for guarding Xiao Yan. Hai Bodong accepts because he recognizes the power behind the contract and sees it as more attainable than locating a sixth-tier alchemist with a Heavenly Flame. 2

His seal is cold and yin in nature, leading him to seek the Myriad Beast Spirit Fire as a possible cure. He negotiates directly with the Amethyst Winged Lion King and later helps persuade it that the Jia Ma Empire's magical beasts should cooperate against outside factions competing for the flame. 12 13

Xiao Yan first frees him from the seal with a Grade Six Break Calamity Pill, then later gives him a Purple Spirit Recovery Pill. The latter not only restores Hai Bodong's original strength but raises him to Seven-Star Dou Huang. 17 24

Personality

Hai Bodong is composed, proud, and accustomed to speaking from a position of strength. He retains the confidence of the Ice Emperor even while sealed, openly identifying himself to the Amethyst Winged Lion King and refusing to be intimidated by stronger opponents. 12

He is practical in matters of power and reward. At Han Feng's proposal to attack Canaan Academy, he initially rejects the offer as too dangerous, but agrees once offered an Imperial Extreme Pill and a peak sixth-tier Break-Zong Pill. 45

Despite his sharp tongue and willingness to kill those who challenge him, he values Xiao Yan's consideration and treats their arrangement as more than a mere transaction. He accepts Xiao Yan's aid without empty formalities, stating that they are on the same side. 24
