Nature and Formation

Infinite Mechanism originates from the operation of Primordial Chaos and can expand only by enduring its all-encompassing rhythm. Later-born cultivators learned to cultivate it by constructing a complete principle-bearing structure from three components: Infinite Mechanism traces as the skeleton, a Great Dao as flesh and blood, and fundamental consciousness as the brain 2671.

It exists both as a power attained by cultivators and as an artifact-grade force contained in Infinite Mechanism items. Such items are described as transcending conventional ranks, with unknown origins beyond the universe's primordial chaos 1882.

During cultivation, Primordial Chaos's infinite rhythm makes the traces, Great Dao, and fundamental consciousness resonate and fuse. The traces provide refined essential principles, the Great Dao carries the complete principles, and consciousness makes that Dao the cultivator's own. If the three components cannot endure the rhythm, they shatter and the breakthrough fails. Successfully enduring this process accounts for a completed Infinite Mechanism's resistance to destruction outside the Supreme Cataclysm 2671.

Infinite Mechanism Traces

Extracting traces from another cultivator is not ordinarily simple. Li Qing's Doombringer Divine Sword, and later his Dao-Extinguishing Sword, provide methods for refining the required essence from defeated opponents. Dao propagation makes trace extraction possible, but cultivators without sufficient time or foundations may possess powerful Great Daos without having accumulated many usable traces 2406 2578.

Integrating traces into a Great Dao does not consume them. Instead, their interconnected principles strengthen the Dao's structure and make it more resistant to outside influence. The eventual breakthrough uses these traces to devour the Great Dao and merge into a qualitatively transformed mechanism 2393.

Traces condensed through another faction's fundamental methods may contain hidden dangers. Before using acquired traces for his own cultivation, Li Qing reduces them to principle essence through Revert to Root, Return to Origin, then refines them anew with the Way of Civilization 2601.

Breakthrough and Further Advancement

• Attaining Infinite Mechanism requires surviving the Infinite Cataclysm. Its fluctuations can attract existing wielders, whose overwhelming strength and rapid arrival make an unprotected breakthrough exceptionally dangerous. The Supreme Cataclysm can provide cover for such attempts 2537.
• The final fusion of fundamental will with the mechanism is particularly vulnerable. Interruption can devastate the cultivator's will and allow another party to seize the mechanism 2687.
• At this vulnerable instant, an established Infinite Mechanism wielder can erase the original fundamental consciousness and replace it with their own. Even a Dao-propagating cultivator may invade the transforming mechanism with their consciousness and attempt to take over the breakthrough 2680.
• Existing powers regulate breakthrough opportunities through protection, merit rankings, and access to Heavenly Dao Reincarnation authority. Such protection does not eliminate political danger: patrons who learn a candidate's entire foundation may later exploit that knowledge to create weaknesses in the resulting mechanism 2617 2655 2700 2704.
• Gathering and merging nine Infinite Mechanism Dao Fruits provides a route toward Supreme Mechanism. Possessing the fruits does not guarantee success; the Supreme Heavenly Lord estimates that even one success in a hundred ordinary candidates would be a good result 2582 2753.
• Combining Forward and Anti-Infinite Mechanisms introduces additional difficulties. Hei Guda's attempt using five Anti and four Forward mechanisms produced an unstable Supreme Mechanism because of conflicting principles and severe injuries 2533.
• Mechanisms sharing a common source can potentially be developed into distinct but related Dao Fruits. Principle-Level Power

Infinite Mechanisms elevate a cultivator's Great Dao into a higher-order principle structure. Unlike ordinary Dao arts, which consume traces permanently, a completed structure can employ its traces directly in battle 2399.

• Infinite Mechanism power can perform effects normally considered impossible, including tracing karmic destinies through the Heavenly Secrets Karma Fate River 2314.
• Individual mechanisms do not necessarily have a relationship of mutual generation or restraint; opposing mechanisms may instead enter a stalemate 2401.
• Without a clear restraint relationship, greater numbers and diversity of mechanisms can decisively suppress a lone mechanism. No-Limits True God's ability to weaken other mechanisms does not enable him to escape Li Qing's coordinated encirclement 2724.
• A kingdom's grand formation can serve as an external amplifier, raising an Infinite Mechanism wielder's effective strength by several times or more 2402.
• An ordinary formation without an Infinite Mechanism remains qualitatively inferior and can be shattered by an Infinite Mechanism powerhouse 2402.
• Dao formations derived from Supreme Mechanisms can consume Infinite Mechanism traces to produce Infinite Mechanism-level attacks; their output increases with the quantity consumed 2439.
• According to Past Maitreya Divine Buddha, concealing or distorting information obtained through an Infinite Mechanism investigation requires Infinite Mechanism-level power or higher 2316.
• A mechanism's power may be concealed by withholding its outward spread. Li Qing exploits this property when using the Dao-Extinguishing Sword without establishing an external network 2576.
• Higher-order mechanisms retain qualitative advantages. The Supreme Heavenly Lord's Ultimate Mechanism can suppress an Infinite Mechanism's operation at comparable power, while Supreme Mechanisms can develop restraints against a particular Infinite Mechanism after repeated encounters 2634 2635.
• Burning principle essence can temporarily force an Infinite Mechanism to unleash greater output. Li Qing's forces use this method to drive the Dao-Extinguishing Sword projections to their limit 2685.
• Mechanisms involving karma, fate, and time are particularly difficult to cultivate and consequently uncommon 2604.
• Infinite Mechanism wielders' fundamental consciousness has become the mechanism itself. During the Supreme Cataclysm, they can use its cold, emotionless operation to suppress the greed, obsession, and wrath stirred by Tribulation Qi, entering an especially cautious and profit-oriented state 2683.

Increasing raw output does not necessarily improve a mechanism's intrinsic principle level. Gray Mist Immortal King distinguishes Infinite Mechanisms' potentially unlimited quantitative growth from the Superposition State's simultaneous growth in strength and precision: even a formation-amplified Infinite Mechanism remains vulnerable to Supreme Mechanism power, whereas a network of many different mechanisms can compensate for the qualitative gap. He further doubts that merely adding power or mechanisms would suffice against an Ultimate Mechanism 2841.

Networks

Once an Infinite Mechanism spreads, it can form a network across vast regions. A completed network cannot be severed by ordinary means; even a Supreme Mechanism can only suppress it or render it inert 2578.

• Interlinked Infinite Mechanisms produce geometrically increasing defensive power 2687.
• A network formed by 175 independent wielders withstood the attack of a Supreme Mechanism by merging into the power of a smaller alliance 2517.
• The network of Infinite Mechanism powerhouses in the Unique Universe resisted seven Supreme Mechanisms for an extended period; the Supremes could suppress it but could not quickly break it 2439.
• During a Supreme Cataclysm, Infinite Mechanisms contract into Dao Fruits. This is the principal period in which their networks shrink and their structures can be damaged 2603.
• Forty-nine Infinite Mechanisms arranged together can contend against a Supreme Mechanism. In Great Vow Daoist's attack on the Nine Great Alliances, the initial twenty-five defenders were suppressed until the additional 175 mechanisms joined their network 2425 2517 2688.
• Network coverage is not equivalent to unlimited active perception. Even wielders whose mechanisms reach throughout Primordial Chaos can consciously monitor only limited areas at a time; the Fate Wheel likewise requires attention and time to inspect a particular coordinate 2551 2602.
• Heavenly Dao Reincarnation can preserve connections among mechanisms during their cataclysmic contraction and reinforce national formations that would otherwise lose Infinite Mechanism protection 2603.
• Li Qing uses the Fate Wheel as an intermediary network to channel allied mechanisms into the Dao-Extinguishing Sword without allowing those allies direct contact with the weapon 2670.
• A network can support instantaneous substitution between connected Infinite Mechanism wielders. Li Qing uses this to exchange positions with a prepared incarnation and evade the Supreme Heavenly Lord's attack 2771.
• Networks also present vulnerabilities to specialized interference. The Fate Wheel injects false information by precisely targeting mechanism fluctuations, and the Mysterious Immortal's violet sword light follows a network back to Li Qing 2606 2771.
• Special regions can exclude network coverage. The Land of Ashes cannot be penetrated by an outside Infinite Mechanism network; a wielder must instead send an incarnation carrying power inside and release its mechanism locally 2618.
• Network access enables the rapid descent of projections and power across immense distances. During the battle near the Boundless Void Region, Infinite Mechanism wielders and the Seven Supremes arrive through their remaining networks, while the Five Immortal Kings cannot arrive instantly because they cannot spread a Supreme Mechanism network there 2691.

The suppression of a local manifestation does not ordinarily amount to freezing or destroying its underlying network. After Li Qing's assassination of True Martial Divine Lord, Great Vow Daoist acknowledges that outside a tribulation even Supreme Mechanisms cannot immobilize the network to prevent Li Qing's departure; Ultimate Mechanism alone can interfere with its operation to some degree 2661.

An exceptional collision near the Boundless Void Region forcibly exposes Infinite and Supreme Mechanism networks within its radiance. The participants regard this as unprecedented, because networks spread through Primordial Chaos normally remain hidden and provide the basis of their wielders' undying, indestructible existence 2691.

Incomplete Infinite Mechanisms

An incomplete Infinite Mechanism can result when an Infinite Mechanism contracts into a Dao Fruit during a Supreme Cataclysm and the Dao Fruit is damaged. It remains extraordinarily difficult to destroy, but missing principles create gaps through which external Great Dao power can infiltrate and obstruct its operation 2529.

• Incomplete mechanisms are still considered indestructible in a direct sense; opponents must exploit their flawed principles rather than simply overpower them 2529.
• Their power can be suppressed when Great Dao force enters through those flaws and disrupts their internal principles 2529.
• Completing an incomplete mechanism's theoretical structure allows its principles to cycle properly and restores power close to that of a complete mechanism 2534.
• Theoretical completion does not necessarily restore full quantitative output. The Yin-Yang Treasure Vase initially produces only one-tenth of a complete mechanism's baseline power; an attack exceeding three times its own maximum—more than 900 times the Evolution level—can shatter its Great Dao-level replacement structures and expose the flaws again 2534.
• The Yin-Yang Treasure Vase originally lacks approximately 30% of its principles, while the broken blade that becomes the Dao-Extinguishing Sword is only about 50% complete 2540.

Incomplete principles can limit specialized effects as well as combat output. The incomplete Fate Wheel initially influences a target's fate by creating a tendency that must develop over time; a sufficiently alert target can interrupt that tendency. It can also interfere with spiritual communication between a true body and its avatar, but cannot completely sever their connection 2552 2555.

Forward, Anti, and Fusion Forms

Anti-Primordial Chaos possesses a corresponding system of Great Daos and Infinite Mechanisms. Its powers express traits such as logic, infinite possibilities, and indestructible matter in a reversed form 2499.

• Anti-Infinite Mechanism power can mutually erode opposing Forward Primordial Chaos power, including Supreme Mechanisms. Gloomy Heavenly Lord uses this opposition to tear open a combined Infinite and Supreme Mechanism network 2688.
• A sanctuary's Anti-Infinite Mechanism can infiltrate a subordinate divine kingdom through the fate connection established by accepting its edict and worshipping it, progressively analyzing and incorporating the kingdom's Great Dao 2549.
• Forward and Anti mechanisms can be balanced or fused, but compatibility must be established rather than assumed. Li Qing finds balanced remnants in the Chaotic Dojo and later proposes combining four Forward and four Anti-Infinite Mechanisms around the Chaos Pearl to attempt a Fusion Supreme Mechanism 2547 2699.
• Superposition-state power can deconstruct mechanisms and, given sufficient energy, derive principles that either restrain or enhance them. Li Qing applies this property to the four Forward and four Anti mechanisms of his two fusion incarnations 2778.
• Fusion into the Superposition State does not automatically remove every lower-level principle. Infinite Mechanism principles remaining within Li Qing's fused incarnation initially prevent its power from being wholly Supreme Mechanism-level; wind-and-fire calamity tempering destroys these weaker principles, and Supreme Mechanism principles repair the resulting gaps 2860.
• Principle essence is usable across the Forward and Anti systems rather than becoming incompatible solely because of its origin 2618.

True Realm Expression

Infinite Mechanism also appears as a stage within the cultivation systems associated with True Light and the True Realm. The progression described in the Primordial Scripture passes through Infinite, Supreme, and Ultimate Mechanisms before the emergence of an individual's own True Light and, ultimately, True Dao 2957.

• Both embryonic True Radiance and pure True Light can carry mechanism principles. With identical principles, the pure True Light version is half a major level stronger in intensity 2957.
• Li Qing's True Civilization Infinite Mechanism is initially composed of embryonic True Radiance rather than the flawless True Light possessed by ordinary intelligent beings of the True Realm 2957.
• True Realm beasts awaken inherited True Script within their genetic material. Resonance with surrounding True Light and mechanisms produces more True Script until a complete replacement cycle expresses True Infinite Mechanism characteristics 3024.
• Most beasts can assume human form after completing True Infinite Mechanism. Their subsequent progression through Supreme and Ultimate Mechanisms eventually transforms their genetic material toward Intelligent Spirit existence 3024.
• Li Qing distinguishes ordinary mechanism power from the superposition-state power used on the path of truth when researching Void Radiance. He identifies his Positive-Negative Civilization Infinite Mechanism as one possible basis for experiments on the path of void 3007.
• The Destiny Universe's development into a Real embryonic universe changes cultivation calamities into lightning tribulations and naturally transforms its inhabitants' mechanisms toward the Superposition State, providing a route toward True Fruits 2965.
• Earth Source Immortal Venerable constructs an embryonic intelligent being entirely from Superposition State logic, matter, soul, and energy. Its ability to sense logic but not mechanisms marks a remaining qualitative gap between it and the intelligent beings of the True Realm 2967.
• Infinite Mechanism radiance remains vulnerable to dangerous True Realm environments. In the Land of Chaotic Battle, Killing Intent mist infused with various mechanisms corrodes Li Qing's first puppet's protective radiance, prompting him to reshape its mechanism to imitate the surrounding power 3073.

Known Mechanisms

Story Role

• The discovery that Li Qing possessed an Infinite Mechanism item immediately made him a target for ancient powerhouses. Dead Silence identified such an item as a rank-transcending object whose appearance could provoke wars between dozens of powerful beings and destroy entire universes 1882 1999.
• Mysterious Unknown's Dao Refinement item made the Infinite Universe a site for cultivating and harvesting traces through the conflict of different paths. Its power also obstructed deep spiritual communication between trapped cultivators and the avatars they had left in Primordial Chaos, making escape dependent on breaking his lockdown 1998 2195.
• Infinite Mechanism wielders became a major independent force in the Unique Universe. Nearly all unaffiliated wielders—175 in total—joined their powers to obstruct the seven Supreme Mechanisms' investigation and suppression 2427.

When the factions attacked the independent kingdoms, he argued that fragmented resistance would allow their enemies to destroy them one by one. His unified command subsequently halted the previously overwhelming offensive 2409 2434 2436.

The stalemate led to an external alliance strategy. Li Qing encouraged the 175 wielders to contact acquaintances in Primordial Chaos, while he investigated prospective allies and excluded those compromised by the six major powers. This network of contacts supported the Nine Great Alliances and extended the conflict beyond the Unique Universe 2476 2477.

Twenty-five additional Infinite Mechanism wielders joined the external alliance. Their presence brought the combined force to two hundred and provided defenders for the Primordial Chaos fronts, with the original 175 ready to transmit support when Great Vow Daoist intervened. Mysterious Unknown and Three-Part Daoist later joined as the 201st and 202nd wielders 2490 2515 2517 2640.

Their cooperation with Li Qing remained conditional rather than loyal. Infinite Mechanism wielders later pursued his Civilization Universe and temporarily coordinated with the Seven Supremes to lock down wandering universes. Nevertheless, approximately two hundred wielders subsequently agreed to another joint operation with Li Qing because breaking the Four Provinces' defenses and capturing the Supreme Heavenly Lord's incarnation promised mutual benefits 2605 2607 2627.

The alliance eventually connected 203 Infinite Mechanisms, including the Fate Wheel, to the Primordial Universe's Heavenly Dao Reincarnation. This created a powerful defensive network and supplied the Infinite Kingdoms with enough external support to break through the Four Provinces battlefield's critical threshold 2647.

The early arrival of the Supreme Cataclysm endangered this arrangement. As the networks contracted, the Seven Supremes anticipated that the Primordial Universe would lose its ability to transmit Heavenly Dao Reincarnation power into the Unique Universe through them. The same contraction also threatened the border defenses against Anti-Primordial Chaos, forcing all sides to reconsider the consequences of reclaiming or abandoning territory 2673.

Protected Advancement and Predation

The Anti-Primordial Chaos invasion made the shortage of Forward Infinite Mechanism wielders a strategic problem. Li Qing proposed protecting selected candidates through the Infinite Cataclysm to enlarge their ranks, while secretly arranging for his own six incarnations to secure qualifications through military merit 2617 2621 2626.

The initial proposal used merit rankings to select the top hundred eligible cultivators who had completed Dao propagation, replacing failures with lower-ranked candidates until at least one hundred new mechanisms had been produced. Established wielders accepted the military value of this expansion while also viewing the weaker newcomers as potential nourishment during the Supreme Cataclysm 2617.

The Seven Supremes subsequently introduced Dream Without Trace as a qualification trial. Three hundred candidates, each possessing three thousand traces and completed nature-and-life cultivation, were to face simulations of earlier experts before their breakthroughs. Publicly, this tested their readiness; secretly, it allowed the Supremes to examine candidates' foundations and search for Li Qing's hidden incarnations 2654.

Breakthroughs repeatedly became opportunities for predation. Established experts inspected candidates' foundations, rival cultivators attempted to seize newly forming Dao Fruits, and powerful factions harvested successful ascendants for further advancement. Li Qing both participated in this competition and protected selected newcomers when their allegiance benefited him 2655 2687 2750 2903.

Hidden flaws could remain lethal even after successful advancement. Black Prison Heavenly Lord exploited a backdoor in Yin Jade Heavenly Lord's Anti-Infinite Mechanism to kill him and acquire the ninth Dao Fruit needed for his next cultivation attempt 2754.

Later Political and Cultivation Significance

By the Destiny Universe period, Infinite Mechanism experts controlled enough Heavenly Dao Reincarnation authority to resist coercion from higher-level factions. Tianyuan Daoist represented their concerns over a dangerous proposal; the stronger powers could not simply force compliance, because an alliance between these experts and Li Qing could block the universe's destruction and potentially use the Judgment of All Beings against its would-be destroyers 3006.

Li Qing later recruited the Civilization Universe's powerhouses to cultivate the Way of Void and deploy Void Vessels to monitor the Four Sourceflows. He supplied cultivation methods involving the Sea of Void and Void Runes in exchange for surveillance, while warning that exposing Void Civilization methods could compromise puppets concealed in the True Realm 3039.

Li Qing's own Civilization cultivation eventually moved beyond Infinite Mechanism. After developing a True Civilization form through the Primordial Scripture, he transformed the Civilization Universe into a Real Universe and completed the Positive-Negative Civilization Supreme Mechanism. This advancement distinguished his own cultivation breakthrough from the higher-level mechanisms and incarnations he had already controlled 2957 3062 3063.

Infinite Mechanism nevertheless remained useful in his later operations. His first puppet entered the Land of Chaotic Battle without a suitable weapon, relying on its own condensed mechanism for concealment and protection. When the region's mechanism-infused Killing Intent corroded its radiance, Li Qing adapted the mechanism to reproduce the surrounding power's characteristics 3073.
