All living beings and things within the nine-layered hell spacetime of the Abyssal Realm were known as "hell beings."
Originally, the native inhabitants of the Abyssal spacetime consisted of only one kind: the fiends and demons of the abyss. During the era of Divine Court rule, a large portion were suppressed and sealed away by the Lord of the Divine Court and the Zhenyu Heavenly King, while another portion chose to join the Divine Court.
One-third of these fiends and demons were invested as demon gods. From then on, they became part of the Divine Court's pantheon, lofty and exalted—the eternal ruling class, so to speak.
Another third of the fiendish demon races were assigned to the Six Paths of spacetime. In other words, they were sent to the Bone Path, the Nether Luo Path, and the Vast Cliff Path, to survive in those alternate dimensions the Divine Court regarded as bitterly cold wastelands.
The remaining group suffered the worst fate. These fiends and demons were branded with the mark of the "Underworld," becoming part of the hell beings, forever unable to leave the nine-layered hell spacetime ruled by the Underworld.
Of course, aside from these natives, the Underworld had other hell beings as well—for instance, the souls of mortal humans and cultivators from the human realm who had been cast into hell to suffer punishment, as well as the demonic jailers created by the Ksitigarbha Holy Emperor and the eight Yama Heavenly Sons.
