Background / History

Ao’s parents died on a mission, and Izumi’s family took him in. She calls him her little brother and is openly affectionate toward him 1 2. When she learns that Ao has been spending time with Hyūga Hinata, she follows him, confronts him, and becomes jealous of their closeness 3 5.

Izumi grows concerned about the danger surrounding Ao after meeting the one-armed Uchiha Shisui. She pursues Shisui and learns that Uchiha Itachi burned off his arm with Amaterasu. Determined to face Itachi herself, she spars with Shisui, but his Mangekyō genjutsu exposes a weakness she cannot overcome through ninjutsu and taijutsu alone 22 23. She subsequently trains to awaken her own Mangekyō and stands beside Ao when he addresses the Uchiha clan 24 25 32.

Izumi has long, dark hair and bright eyes; her eyes are described as amber before her Mangekyō is shown 1 46.

Izumi is protective and attentive toward Ao, cooking for him when he studies late and worrying when she suspects he may be involved in danger 18 22. Her affection can also become possessive: she resents his attention to Hinata and Tsukino Chinatsu, and she uses a weakened ocular technique to keep him beside her 5 18 28. Despite her jealousy, she eventually accepts Kaguya’s presence in their home after Ao explains who she is 94.
