Faced with Hiruzen Sarutobi's personal recruitment, Senju Genma did not hesitate in the slightest and agreed immediately.
Upon receiving Senju Genma's affirmative reply, Hiruzen Sarutobi felt a great sense of satisfaction in his heart.
He now truly considered Senju Genma one of his own.
Danzo, oh Danzo! With Senju Genma on my side, how could you possibly compete with me? I have surpassed you by so much; you shall remain beneath me for the rest of your life!
"By the way, take this. It's a letter sent back by Tsunade."
As he spoke, Hiruzen Sarutobi reached into his robes and pulled out a letter.
Seemingly to comfort Senju Genma, he began to speak: "Orochimaru and the others are personally leading thousands of brave soldiers to campaign against Hanzo. Reports of victory arrive constantly. Wherever our troops go, the people welcome them with sincere hearts. It is truly a case of having the favor of the times; that vibrant vitality, that scene of all things striving for growth, is still fresh in my mind."
"Regardless of how you look at it, the troop movements are going very smoothly. You need not worry about Tsunade's safety; she is doing just fine!"
Senju Genma nodded, moved, and as he took the letter, he said loudly, "Your insight is profound, Lord Hokage!"
Hiruzen Sarutobi was very pleased by Senju Genma's praise.
"Alright, you may head back for today. I will notify Tiger, and in a short while, I will have you officially join the Anbu. The village will also be issuing some war missions, so there is no need to be impatient. You will be reunited with them soon enough."
Seeing Senju Genma and Hiruzen Sarutobi getting along so harmoniously, Uzumaki Mito revealed a kind, gentle smile.
Konoha would surely have a bright future!
Under Hiruzen Sarutobi's watchful gaze, Uzumaki Mito took Senju Genma by the hand and left the Konoha Arena.
The Land of Rain battlefield.
The main force of Konoha had just entered the sphere of influence of the Hidden Rain Village when they encountered an interception force from the village.
Fortunately, the demigod Hanzo did not appear, and the Hidden Rain Village's troops were no match for the Konoha ninja, quickly being repelled.
"Be careful!" Orochimaru followed behind Nawaki and called out in a low voice.
Although he said that, he did not stop Nawaki from pursuing the Rain ninja.
Orochimaru had already experienced one war; in his eyes, this conflict was merely a trial for Nawaki.
After being tempered by this war, Nawaki would soon be able to become a true powerhouse.
Nawaki said confidently, "Don't worry, Teacher. I'll be fine. These guys are no match for us at all."
The two of them tracked the remnants of the Hidden Rain forces together, and they soon left the main Konoha force far behind.
After pursuing for a while, Orochimaru suddenly stopped on a tree branch and furrowed his brows.
"Be careful, Nawaki. Something isn't right here; it's too quiet!"
Nawaki looked back at Orochimaru and landed steadily on the ground.
He looked up, only to see a scene that filled him with terror.
Surrounding him were steel wires, all covered in explosive tags.
"Nawaki!" Orochimaru shouted.
"I told you already to be careful! If something happened to you, Tsunade would definitely beat you up."
Several branches sprouted from behind Nawaki, then quickly intertwined to form the figure of Senju Genma.
"Genma?!"
Senju Genma did not respond to him, but instead clapped his hands together.
"Wood Release: Wood Shield!"
A wooden shield shaped like a fanged demon mask rose from the ground on both sides of Nawaki's feet, enveloping him.
The surrounding explosive tags were triggered, and over a dozen of them detonated simultaneously, causing a violent explosion.
At this moment, Orochimaru's expression turned grim, and he growled, "How could this happen? Damn it! Damn it!!"
"Orochimaru, don't be so quick to grieve; it isn't over yet!"
Senju Genma's voice came from the smoke, and hope reignited in Orochimaru's eyes.
As the smoke cleared, a massive demon mask appeared before Orochimaru.
The mask split in half from the middle, revealing the figures of Senju Genma and Nawaki.
"Genma? How are you here?"
"I believe I mentioned it, didn't I? I placed a Wood Clone seed on Nawaki," Senju Genma said, crossing his arms with a cocky air.
Orochimaru immediately frowned: "But how did you know Nawaki was in danger?"
He was truly a future scientist; he had quickly identified the key point of the matter. Although he hadn't started his scientific research yet, his thirst for knowledge was not low at all.
"I have the ability of Danger Sense," Senju Genma explained, hands on his hips.
"Danger Sense?" Orochimaru muttered to himself, still feeling somewhat skeptical.
Clearly, this was not an ability that the average person possessed.
However, the battlefield was not the place for him to get to the bottom of it.
As he pondered, the Hidden Rain Village ninjas who had been fleeing quietly circled back to surround them.
Senju Genma patted his shoulder. "Think about it later! We'll have plenty of opportunities to chat properly."
Orochimaru lowered his head, locking eyes with him.
Orochimaru's gaze was somewhat strange, as if he wanted to strip Senju Genma bare, and the atmosphere between the two suddenly became a bit subtle.
Senju Genma didn't know how to describe it, only that it felt somewhat scorching.
However, Senju Genma was self-aware; although he knew he was handsome, he had always only attracted women, and no man had ever done anything out of line toward him.
He believed this atmosphere was just his own illusion; Orochimaru surely wouldn't change his orientation.
After the three finished their idle chatter, seven Hidden Rain ninjas leaped directly onto the surrounding trees.
"Boss, that looks like the Konoha elite jonin Orochimaru, the disciple of the Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi!"
The lead Hidden Rain ninja said coldly, "What the hell are you afraid of? Who isn't a jonin? I'm an elite jonin, you're a jonin; seven of us against three of them, the advantage is mine."
"Kazama-sama is wise!" a nearby Hidden Rain ninja flattered.
Senju Genma and Orochimaru flanked Nawaki in the middle, speaking quickly: "Two jonin, five chunin."
"I'm only a Wood Clone, leave those chunin to me, the jonin are yours, how about it?"
Nawaki was somewhat at a loss, and Orochimaru responded, "Can you handle it?"
"No problem! Regardless, I'm a jonin now!" Senju Genma said affirmatively.
"Fine, just hold on." Orochimaru nodded.
He didn't say anything like "don't die"; it was just a Wood Clone, so it wouldn't be a big deal if it perished. As long as it could buy time and prevent these ninjas from harming Nawaki, he would definitely win.
Orochimaru used the Body Flicker Technique to reach the trees, attacking the two jonin.
Senju Genma also darted toward the five chunin.
The five chunin did not let Senju Genma approach, throwing shuriken and kunai one after another to intercept him.
"Wood Release: Tree Wall!"
Senju Genma was too lazy to even clap his hands; a shield formed by multiple wooden vines stood before him, blocking all the ninja tools.
"Genjutsu: Bringer of Darkness!"
The five chunin were instantly deprived of light, their vision turning pitch black.
"Water Release: Water Severing Wave!" Senju Genma spat a high-pressure, linear water jet from his mouth, sharp as a blade.
"Nani?!"
"Damn it!"
"Ah!"
"Urgh!"
"Yamete!"
As the screams rang out, the darkness before the five chunin dissipated, but their bodies, along with the surrounding trees, had already been sliced in two. Their broken remains collapsed, and blood flowed all over the ground.
