Background / History

Yukiko had retired from acting more than ten years before Lin Maoxian sought her out in Japan. After moving to Los Angeles with her husband, Kudo Yusaku, she became publicly known in America for solving cases on television with Yusaku’s deductions. Her fame earned her the title “Baroness of the Dark Night.” 8 12

Kisaki Eri contacted Yukiko on Lin’s behalf, and Yukiko quickly flew to Japan despite doubting Lin’s claim that he wished to fulfill an elderly fan’s final wish. During their first meeting, she interrogated Lin’s unlikely story and recognized that he had deliberately sought her out for another purpose. 9 11

Lin eventually revealed that Shinichi had survived but had been reduced to the child identity of Edogawa Conan. Yukiko accepted his explanation after considering the timing of Conan’s appearance and Shinichi’s disappearance, then joined Lin’s plan to expose her son’s identity. 12 13
