Background / History

Yin Corpses arise when the remains of fallen human or Demon Race cultivators are steeped in Yin Energy over long periods. They gradually develop a faint residual consciousness and cultivate using memories from their former lives. Despite retaining some cultivation-related traits, they are weaker than living beings of the same realm because their souls are incomplete 26 36.

The Demon Prison contains numerous such undead due to its history as a battlefield and the deaths of later Myriad Demon Sect disciples there. Yin Corpses and other ghosts are drawn to creatures with vigorous blood energy, making the prison especially dangerous to living cultivators 36.

Situ Kong's group sought the Shadow Moon Poison Leaf, a spirit herb nourished by Yin Corpse saliva that grew inside a cave guarded by three Yin Corpses: two peak Xiantian beast-type corpses and one newly advanced Sea-Opening Realm corpse 36.

Appearance

Yin Corpses vary according to the bodies from which they formed. The cave guardians included a tiger-lion-like corpse, a giant-ape-like corpse, and a gaunt humanoid corpse 36.

The Sea-Opening Realm Yin Corpse appeared physically frail but was the strongest of the three.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Demon Prison Mission

The Yin Corpses serve as the principal obstacle between Situ Kong's party and the Shadow Moon Poison Leaf. Chen Lin is assigned to delay the Sea-Opening Realm corpse while Situ Kong, Liu Han, and Han Shuitong kill the two peak Xiantian guardians 36 37.

Chen Lin initially stalls the gaunt corpse using Thunder Flash Step, Six Prisons Mad Blade, martial arts, and his physical body. He suffers wounds from its black-energy pillars but survives due to his body-tempering cultivation 37.

After using the Immortal-Descending Formation Flags to ground it, Chen Lin fights the corpse in close combat until the other three cultivators finish the lesser Yin Corpses. The group then binds and restrains the Sea-Opening corpse, allowing Chen Lin to sever its head with Shattering Nirvana Finger and his scythe 38.

Aftermath

The slain corpse's head contains an Yin Corpse Fire Seed, which Jiang Yue later attempts to seize for Lan Xin. Chen Lin uses the severed head as a distraction during his surprise attack on Jiang Yue 39 40.

Chen Lin ultimately stores the Yin Corpse's head before leaving the Demon Prison after the Shadow Moon Poison Leaf is secured 43.
