Chapter Twenty-One
As expected, the Seed of Life's "desperate struggle" effect could only be activated under extreme circumstances.
After using it, Lynn felt dizzy and weak in all four limbs, barely able to stand.
When walking, he had to cling tightly to the wall just to maintain his balance.
Anyone who saw him like this would probably suspect he had some kind of kidney deficiency.
Lynn had originally thought that, since he had finally made a trip outside, he would wander around the Furnace Core District a little more and see if he could find some opportunity.
But to his disappointment, with the Furnace War drawing near, the atmosphere in the core district had become exceptionally tense, with crowds surging everywhere.
Whether it was the Spell Testing Room, shops, or bookstores, they were all packed to the point of being impenetrable.
Goods whose prices had once been stable had now risen several times over because of the approaching war.
Every apprentice had dug out the savings they had hidden away for so long and frantically bought all kinds of tools and resources, afraid of dying in the coming war.
Lynn checked the points he had on hand. He had fifty in total.
He had spent some entering the core district, then another ten at the testing room. With only thirty-something left, he could not buy anything useful at all.
Besides, his body was weak and he was in terrible condition, so he decided not to waste any more time and returned directly to the Potion Garden.
After returning to the Potion Garden, Lynn practically collapsed onto his bed and slept for an entire day and night.
When he barely recovered some strength, his head still felt muddled, and even meditation left him feeling somewhat strained.
"The Seed of Life's desperate struggle effect really isn't worth it. The aftereffects are far too severe."
Lynn sighed. He could not do anything now; he could not stand for long, and after taking a few steps, he had to rest.
When his colleague Remy saw this, he assumed Lynn had taken two days off and gone to the Furnace's Living District to "take care of" those women.
That day, while the two were carrying out their usual potion maintenance work,
Remy saw Lynn sit down to cultivate again because of his back pain and walked over.
"Lynn, you're really ruthless. Did you blow two months' worth of income on those sluts? A little taste is enough for this sort of thing. Don't wear yourself out until you look like a dead dog. Most of them have undergone body modifications precisely to get people addicted..."
Remy clicked his tongue in amazement, though he did not seem to think much of it. He was more teasing Lynn for being young and not knowing restraint.
Lynn rubbed his lower back. Listening to Remy's clicking tongue, he was deeply shocked. He had never expected this world's customs to be so wild; it truly broadened his horizons.
At the same time, he secretly thought, Remy, you've exposed yourself...
After listening for an hour to Remy's in-depth research on the wizarding vice industry, Lynn reluctantly withdrew his gaze, cleared his throat with two light coughs, and seriously interrupted Remy.
"By the way, Remy, do you know the name of that guy who came in with us?"
Remy froze for a moment before realizing who he meant. Then he nodded and answered,
"Oh, you mean White? He seems to have gone to the Alchemy Department. The Furnace War is about to send people to the battlefield this time, so he's probably in for a rough time..."
As Remy spoke, there was not much sympathy on his face. Instead, he seemed rather pleased by White's misfortune.
"Still, I'm glad I didn't go to the Alchemy Department and came to the Potion Department instead. At least I won't be sent to a place like that to die."
Just as Lynn was about to speak, a series of deafening booms suddenly rang out beside his ears.
ROAR! ROAR! ROAR!
The sound rumbled like thunder, accompanied by deep beastly roars. It was as if the entire earth trembled, making Lynn's ears ache and his heart tighten.
"The war has officially begun!"
Lynn instantly understood. These were the roars of high-level Magic Beasts from the Beast Pen, meaning the Furnace's army was ready and was preparing to launch an outward assault atop Magic Beasts.
Remy beside him heard the sounds as well. His expression changed slightly, turning serious.
The Furnace War was undoubtedly an unavoidable catastrophe for all Wizard Apprentices.
Outside the Furnace, the roars of Magic Beasts rose and fell.
One Magic Beast after another was led out from the depths of the Furnace, their heavy footsteps making the ground tremble faintly.
Following close behind were robed Wizard Apprentices. They were Level 3 Wizard Apprentices, each leading these Magic Beasts forward.
Every apprentice wore an exceptionally solemn expression, their eyes shining with determination to fight.
The enormous structure of the Furnace opened its colossal maw as though it intended to devour heaven and earth, unleashing the power it had accumulated for more than ten years.
The Furnace's targets were not limited to one, but several, so multiple armies were gathering in different directions.
To the west, a vast army slowly emerged from the Furnace's abyss.
The procession stretched on endlessly, Magic Beasts roaring as they marched shoulder to shoulder with the Wizard Apprentices.
Yet at the very front of this army stood several particularly eye-catching figures.
They wore robes as well and appeared unremarkable on the surface, but they radiated an extraordinarily distinctive energy.
Those fluctuations made people's hearts tremble, as though the entire space was being oppressed by their power.
These people were Official Wizards!
Every one of them had successfully imprinted a permanent spell mark within their body, becoming powerful beings capable of continuously radiating energy.
Among these wizards was a face Lynn found quite familiar—Drey, the wizard who had led them into the Furnace.
At that moment, Drey remained expressionless, but the deep scar on his face was especially conspicuous, savage and terrifying. In this atmosphere filled with beastly roars, he seemed even more sinister and horrifying.
"Drey, I heard you just returned from outside. I've been conducting experiments for ten years, so I wonder if anything major has happened out there recently?"
Suddenly, a hooded wizard in a robe walked over to Drey's side. His deep voice carried a hint of mockery.
The wizard's face was covered by black cloth. There was no arm within the sleeve of his right robe; instead, there was only a pitch-black snake flicking its tongue. A cold aura seeped from it, making even the air seem frigid.
"Heh, everything is as usual, though there is one major matter."
Drey gave a cold smile and said quietly, "That Lionheart Knight from White Heart Tower ate his teacher's flesh and blood, then fled to Dark Wizard territory."
"Oh?"
The wizard beside him seemed interested, his tone carrying a cold sneer.
"I remember he was already a Level 2 Wizard long ago. It seems he killed his teacher to use that old bastard's flesh and blood to break through. Heh heh..."
The snake flicked its tongue and actually revealed a human-like smile, as though mocking that Knight for not knowing his own limits.
"It isn't so easy for a Bloodline Wizard to advance."
Drey shook his head, still cold and emotionless. "Even if he advances, he won't escape White Heart Tower's pursuit. I heard their Tower Master has already returned to this world. Before long, that traitor will surely be personally executed."
When he mentioned the Tower Master of White Heart Tower, a trace of reverence was impossible to hide in his voice.
