Chapter 22
At the mention of the White Heart Tower's Tower Master soon returning, Wizard Drey and the other wizard both froze for an instant.
After all, that was a great wizard on the same level as their Lord of the Furnace.
And when speaking of the White Heart Tower's Tower Master, the two wizards naturally thought of their own Lord of the Furnace, that great being who had reached Level 4 Wizard.
Whether Dark Wizards or White Wizards, only those above Level 3 Wizard possessed enough power to construct colossal facilities like the Furnace or establish a High Tower.
In several directions around the Furnace, multiple armies had assembled, each led by numerous Official Wizards.
"Prepare to depart!"
Following the command, the wizards in the ranks began arranging their formations and preparing to set out.
Just then, an elegant, beautiful black dragon appeared at the very peak of the Furnace.
Its body was enormous. Each beat of its wings whipped up violent storms, while its black scales gleamed with a chilling light beneath the sun, like a black meteor.
Seated upon the Black Dragon's back was a graceful witch.
Her long robes fluttered in the wind. As the Black Dragon flew, she seemed light and mysterious, as unattainable as a star in the heavens.
With the Black Dragon's appearance, every wizard understood:
This war had finally begun!
As the Furnace Army mobilized, the atmosphere throughout the Furnace became increasingly empty. Many Wizard Apprentices and workers had been transferred to the front lines, and the once bustling Furnace had nearly vanished.
The streets and halls that had once teemed with people instantly became cold and silent.
Aside from departments like the Potion Department, which handled logistics and still retained a sufficient number of apprentices, the other departments kept only the bare minimum needed to maintain normal operations.
The Living District, usually crowded with people, had also grown deserted. Occasionally, someone hurried past, looking especially lonely.
There were even fewer people on the streets, and the pedestrians could practically be counted on one hand.
All wizards and apprentices were preparing for the coming battle. Even the usual clamor had been suppressed beneath the atmosphere of war.
Yet the Furnace's changes had almost no direct connection to Lynn's life.
Although the Furnace Army had already mobilized and the shadow of war hung over the entire Furnace, Lynn's life remained confined to the Potion Garden.
For him, the changes outside would not immediately affect his daily routine.
Of course, as the war drew nearer, the workload in the Potion Garden also increased drastically.
The wizards and apprentices assigned to the front lines would be sent to the battlefield, while those left behind would no longer have the leisure they once did.
For new apprentices like Lynn and Remy, their daily duties had become far more demanding. Not only did they need to organize all kinds of potions, but they also had to sort them, pack them, and prepare them for transport to the front lines.
These potions and resources were all part of the logistical supplies and were vital to the fighting.
Lynn and his companions' workdays had increased from ten hours to anywhere between fourteen and eighteen hours.
Wizard Apprentices could replenish their mental power through meditation, so they could go without sleep for a short period.
But their bodies still had limits. Apprentices like Remy, who had not yet reached First-Level Wizard Apprentice, nearly collapsed from several consecutive days of high-intensity work.
To solve this problem, Remy scraped together what he could. He not only borrowed some points himself, but also borrowed points from Lynn to buy precious potions from the shop.
In the end, only after taking on a considerable debt did he barely manage to break through and reach the level of First-Level Wizard Apprentice.
By strengthening his mental power through meditation, he barely managed to endure this period of intense work.
However, although Lynn had increased his mental power through meditation, his time for meditation and studying wizardry became extremely limited due to the longer work hours.
Though his talent still allowed him to make progress, the rate of improvement was far slower than before.
He had once been able to spend several hours every day researching wizardry and exploring its mysteries.
Now, he could only steal scraps of time to meditate for a moment now and then, and his progress in wizardry was forced to slow.
Even so, Lynn was not impatient.
Every day's accumulation, no matter how slow, was still progress in the end.
He also knew clearly that his wizardry and mental power would gradually grow stronger.
It could be said that Lynn's progress bar gave him the happiness of improving every moment, so naturally he would not slack off.
The Furnace Army had completely surrounded the Bitter Heart Sect. A powerful shield of wizardry light covered the sect's castle complex.
At that moment, the wizards inside the castles were desperately reinforcing the light shield, maintaining this final line of defense.
The powerful wizards in long robes strained to support it with their mental power, while the Wizard Apprentices busily retrieved precious Magic Stones from the sect's Treasury of Temptation and fed them into the light shield, strengthening the defense at all costs.
However, outside the Bitter Heart Sect, the Furnace Army had long since prepared its assault.
All kinds of powerful energy particles erupted continuously. The roar of wizardry resounded in every direction, and frequent clashes of wizardry tore the energy in the air apart.
Among them, one enormous magical weapon was particularly eye-catching—it was a wizardry device resembling a cannon.
At that moment, several Wizard Apprentices were struggling to carry a blood-red crystal into its barrel.
When a Blood Crystal was thrown into the cannon, the massive magical device let out a thunderous roar. Then a crimson beam shot toward the Bitter Heart Sect's light shield like a meteor.
Rumble!
The deafening explosion echoed across the entire battlefield. The Bitter Heart Sect's light shield shook violently, seeming on the verge of collapse, yet it stubbornly held on without completely shattering.
"The Bitter Heart Sect truly deserves to be called a faction with a Level 3 Wizard guarding it. It won't be easy to take down."
Wizard Drey said coldly as he stood beside the cannon, his gaze as sharp as a blade.
"Add another Blood Crystal. Every blast of the cannon costs a fortune in Magic Stones, but the Bitter Heart Sect is a Level 3 Faction after all. It shouldn't be too much of a loss."
The Black Snake Wizard, whose right hand had been replaced by a tiny black snake, let out a sinister laugh as its forked tongue flickered faintly through the air.
Following the two wizards' orders, the Wizard Apprentices brought over an even larger blood-red crystal and threw it into the barrel without hesitation.
The cannon roared again, and crimson light surged forth like a flood, smashing fiercely into the Bitter Heart Sect's light shield.
Boom!
With this violent impact, the Bitter Heart Sect's light shield could no longer endure. After a violent ripple, it shattered completely, fragments scattering in every direction.
The instant the formation broke, the exchange of long-range wizardry ended, and the true battle had only just begun.
Next, the wizards and Wizard Apprentices would enter a close-range fight to the death.
Within the Furnace Army, twenty or thirty powerful wizards, including Wizard Drey and the Black Snake Wizard, rose into the air and swiftly flew forward, preparing to meet the Bitter Heart Sect wizards launching a surprise attack from ahead.
Lights flashed in the sky, magical power surged violently, and the battle between the two sides' wizards was about to erupt.
At the same time, the Wizard Apprentices on the ground refused to be outdone. They charged toward the battlefield one after another, joining this life-or-death struggle.
Lynn's enemy stood on this very battlefield—Riley Robert was actually here!
Riley's expression was icy, and his eyes brimmed with killing intent.
His robes had long been dyed crimson with blood. Blood dripped from their hems, and the Magic Ring on his finger was close to breaking. Clearly, this brutal battle had pushed him to his limit.
Even so, he continued forcing his way through the crowd, his blade-like gaze sweeping over everything around him.
However, at that moment, an enormous crimson radiance suddenly erupted from the Bitter Heart Sect's ranks.
The light was as immense as the sun. It instantly illuminated the entire battlefield and released violent waves of energy.
"Boom—"
The light took shape in an instant, and its waves spread like an ocean tide, sweeping toward the Furnace's apprentices.
Every apprentice struck by the waves changed expression in an instant, then evaporated directly into ash within the light, leaving behind not even a trace.
Riley's expression changed drastically at the sight.
A trace of terror flashed through his eyes. He realized that he might never get another chance to kill that damned Lynn, nor avenge his foolish younger brother.
The other side's wizardry energy was so immense that he did not even have time to react!
However, at that moment, a deafening dragon's roar echoed across the heavens.
The sound was like thunder, shaking the entire battlefield.
Almost at the same instant, a massive black dragon descended from the sky. Its spread wings were like clouds, and its enormous black wings nearly blotted out the entire sky, carrying a terrifying pressure.
The Black Dragon's aura descended like a nightmare. The world darkened, black smoke spread everywhere, as though it had swallowed every trace of light.
All the wizards and Wizard Apprentices were intimidated by this power and could not clearly see what was happening before them.
Upon the Black Dragon stood a graceful witch, looking down from above.
Her hood was blown back by the wind, revealing an incomparably beautiful face.
Her delicate nose was like jade, and a cold, alluring smile rested at the corners of her lightly pursed lips. Her violet eyes were as deep as night and as brilliant as stars.
Her appearance was like the descent of a goddess, instantly drawing every gaze toward her.
Those violet eyes shone like two bright jewels in the darkness, illuminating the entire battlefield.
The Black Dragon roared again. It spread its massive black wings and charged toward the Bitter Heart Sect amidst endless black smoke, blocking that terrifying wizardry.
As it flew, even the colors of heaven and earth seemed to blur. All wizards and apprentices could not help but feel dazed, unable to make out the battle before them.
The sky was blotted out; nightmare descended!
However, more than ten minutes later, a cry of alarm suddenly rang out across the battlefield.
Then, a Black Dragon shot fiercely into the sky, a mangled body clamped in its jaws. It was one of the Bitter Heart Sect's Level 3 Wizards!
He had already died miserably, his body torn into pieces.
"Kill!"
With the Black Dragon's appearance, the Furnace Army's morale soared. All the Wizard Apprentices surged toward the Bitter Heart Sect like a tidal wave.
The fighting on the battlefield grew ever more intense, and blood ran hot.
A trace of madness flashed through Riley's eyes. He knew that according to the Furnace's rules, once an enemy faction was breached, apprentices could keep some of the resources they seized from their enemies.
For some apprentices, war was a disaster, but for others, it was an excellent opportunity.
Ordinarily, they would never have access to those precious wizard resources. But amid the chaos of the Furnace War, every victory brought endless gains.
Especially those who survived the fighting would gain the possibility of breaking through their own limits.
