Chapter Forty-One

After rushing out of Night Shadow Bunker, Lynn did not pause for even a moment, fleeing into the distance with all his strength.

Every step came with heavy panting. The shadow of danger seemed to linger behind him, leaving him unable to lower his guard.

Only when Lynn was gasping for breath and nearly exhausted did he slow down slightly and stop to rest for a while.

Fortunately, he had already left Night Shadow Bunker's direct line of sight. When he looked back, the land before him was open and empty, with not even the silhouette of a black castle remaining in view.

I escaped, but I can't let my guard down...

Lynn's heart sank. He understood that although he had temporarily shaken off his pursuers, this area was still within Night Shadow Bunker's sphere of influence. Safety remained far beyond reach.

The silence and emptiness around him did not mean peace. He was still in potential danger.

Throughout his flight, Lynn had carefully avoided Emerald Island Forest.

Earlier, he had noticed that the Black Dragon Witch seemed to be heading toward the forest.

If the Black Dragon Witch truly was hiding within it, the allied forces of Night Shadow Bunker and the Bitter Heart Sect would certainly treat that area as a key point of attention.

If he rashly went there now, it would be no different from walking straight into a trap.

Therefore, Lynn chose to travel in the direction away from Emerald Island Forest.

As night deepened, his fatigue grew heavier. He finally stopped in a concealed spot and found a sheltered place suitable for resting.

However, since he was still in dangerous territory, he did not dare close his eyes. Instead, he used meditation to recover his strength.

It was only after meditating for nearly two hours that Lynn gradually recovered somewhat.

Though he was far from fully restored, it was enough for him to continue onward.

How are Colin and Sonia...

Lynn sighed inwardly. Though he was deeply worried, there was nothing he could do now except pray that they had survived and escaped.

I need to find a way back to The Furnace...

Lynn made up his mind.

He did not intend to completely sever ties with The Furnace. He still had his contract with The Furnace and needed to report everything that had happened on the battlefield to his superiors.

But The Furnace was some distance away from both Night Shadow Bunker and the Bitter Heart Sect.

He had entered through The Furnace's teleportation arrays, but those arrays were all located in Emerald Island Forest, and going there again was clearly impossible.

I'll have to walk back... Tomorrow, I need to find the nearest mortal city...

Lynn pinched the bridge of his nose, his expression tinged with bitterness.

He realized that not only did he need to avoid the pursuers from Night Shadow Bunker and the Bitter Heart Sect, he also had to find a way to send word back to The Furnace.

How wonderful it would have been if he could send messages by carrier pigeon. Unfortunately, The Furnace was located in the supernatural realm, and ordinary pigeons simply could not fly into it.

Lynn traveled day and night, pushing onward through sleepless nights, supported almost entirely by sheer willpower.

Whenever he grew tired, he meditated briefly to recover some strength, then continued on his way.

After trekking for an entire day and night, he finally saw signs of habitation.

It was a small village. From afar, wisps of smoke rose from the rooftops, clearly showing that people lived there.

Lynn did not enter rashly. Instead, he carefully stole a set of ordinary country clothes and stuffed his conspicuous wizard robe into a spatial item.

Now, he no longer looked like a withdrawn Wizard Apprentice, but more like an ordinary young countryman.

Of course, after living in The Furnace for half a year and receiving proper nourishment, his body had become tall and strong. He was no longer the skinny bamboo pole he once had been.

At a glance from afar, he looked like a handsome young farm boy.

However, to avoid attracting attention, Lynn did not enter the village. Instead, he took a detour and continued along the main road.

After traveling some distance, he finally spotted a low-walled city.

A sparse stream of people passed in and out through the city gate. Lynn silently followed the crowd toward it, and fortunately, no one collected an entrance fee, allowing him to blend in smoothly.

Though the city was not large, its streets were bustling with people and full of life.

Most people wore plain clothing, while the roadside shops displayed a dazzling array of goods. It was the typical appearance of a small medieval city.

Although he did not have a single coin on him, Lynn was not worried in the slightest. For a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice, earning a little money in the mortal world was absurdly easy.

Avoiding any large commotion, Lynn chose an area near a tavern. Using the Daze Spell, he silently knocked out several thugs and searched some money from them.

There were often vagrants and thugs sleeping around taverns. Such things were hardly uncommon in a city.

After resolving his immediate problem, Lynn found an inn and dragged his weary body inside.

He completely ignored the suggestive looks cast his way by the inn girl and headed straight for his room.

After locking the doors and windows, he threw himself onto the bed and fell into a deep sleep almost without hesitation.

It was not until a full day and night later that Lynn opened his bleary eyes, finally recovering from his extreme exhaustion.

After washing up, he sat on the bed with two spatial items placed before him:

One was his own, filled with potions. The other had been taken from the Level 3 Wizard Apprentice connected to White.

I still don't even know that guy's name...

Lynn opened the apprentice's spatial item.

The Furnace's spatial items all used The Furnace's standard design. Lynn opened it easily and began inspecting its contents.

The item contained all sorts of Enchanted Items, varying in size.

For example, the shield that apprentice had used, which could reflect spells, was particularly unusual. Other small items, such as daggers and shackles, appeared more ordinary.

I'm not from the Alchemy Department, and I don't know much about Enchanted Items. I'll have to slowly figure out what these Enchanted Items do...

Lynn muttered to himself, then shifted his gaze to the other spatial item. The potions inside were extremely familiar to him.

Compared with Enchanted Items, he knew these potions like the back of his hand.

Looking at the spatial item packed full of potion bottles, Lynn could not help feeling moved. He lightly licked his lips.

If The Furnace's contract weren't holding me down, I'd really like to use all these potions before continuing on my way...

He took out a glass bottle from the spatial item. It held a colorless liquid, clear and sparkling, like a bottle of pure water.

Lynn examined it carefully. It was the potion known as Tears of the Day.

It could greatly increase the cultivation speed of a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice. Within The Furnace, a single bottle of this potion was worth quite a lot and counted as one of the more precious resources.

However, Lynn did not rush to drink it.

After all, he had obtained this potion from Night Shadow Bunker's Potion Repository. He needed to make sure it did not contain any special seal or restriction.

After all, not every potion was as simple as it appeared on the surface.

Lynn carefully inspected the potion's condition, ensuring that there was nothing unusual about it and that no restrictions had been placed on it.

After confirming it repeatedly and finding everything normal, he finally relaxed. He brought the bottle to his lips and drank lightly.
