Chapter Forty-Two
This was not Lynn's first time taking a potion, and he already had some foundation in potion-making. He therefore knew well how to use his mental power to guide the potion's effects and maximize its benefits.
As the potion entered his stomach, a warm energy rapidly spread through his body.
Lynn felt a refreshing sensation rise within him, as if he had eaten a mint. His mind instantly became exceptionally clear.
Yet unlike an ordinary refreshing feeling, this sensation was intense and profound, as though it had washed the dust from his soul.
His mental power became especially active. As it began to circulate faster, the energy particles between heaven and earth seemed to sense it and surged into his body.
At that moment, Lynn's entire body seemed wrapped in a light, gentle force, and his previously exhausted body gradually regained its vitality.
The long-lost feeling of ease left him utterly comfortable, and his energy recovered greatly.
Nothing happened that night. The next morning, sunlight streamed through the window into the room. Its warm rays gently fell across Lynn's face, waking him from his meditation.
Lynn opened his eyes, his gaze bright and clear, as though filled with an invisible force.
"My mental power in the spiritual domain has clearly become much more active. If this can continue uninterrupted, breaking through to Level 3 Wizard Apprentice may no longer be out of reach."
Lynn let out a long breath, and his mind became completely clear.
Although war was fraught with danger, it was also a redistribution of resources, bringing opportunities that were normally impossible to reach.
If not for this war, Lynn would never have been able to enter Night Shadow Bunker's Potion Repository and obtain those precious resources.
If he had relied solely on the wages from serving The Furnace, he did not know how long it would have taken him to advance to Level 3 Wizard Apprentice.
But now, with these potions, he was confident that he could raise his mental power to 15 points within two months, then attempt to break through to the realm of Level 3 Wizard Apprentice.
But then Lynn frowned again. He knew that although he had gained quite a few benefits this time, where he was now was still far from safe. It was simply too close to Night Shadow Bunker.
Although Lynn had successfully escaped Night Shadow Bunker's control and traveled for an entire day and night, if Night Shadow Bunker's wizards could fly, pursuing them would be extremely easy.
This small city itself was even within Night Shadow Bunker's sphere of influence, and he could be discovered at any time.
Therefore, Lynn knew that no matter what, he had to leave this place as soon as possible.
Although wizards were the extraordinary beings of this world and stood at its pinnacle, they were still only a minority.
In this world, most people did not possess the aptitude to become wizards. They were called Muggles, and the duchies, kingdoms, and empires established by Muggles were the mainstream of this world.
The relationship between wizards and these ordinary nations was often one of dependency and control.
Powerful extraordinary factions always controlled the surrounding duchies, kingdoms, and empires.
Just like The Church in Lynn's previous life, where a king needed the pope's approval to ascend the throne, the same was true in this world: anyone wishing to become an emperor or king had to receive the recognition of a great wizard.
As a Level 4 Faction, The Furnace controlled the Kingdom of Aeluria, and all affairs of the entire kingdom were led by The Furnace.
Night Shadow Bunker and the Bitter Heart Sect, meanwhile, were located within the Duchy of Salam.
The Duchy of Salam had multiple Level 3 Factions, and these factions jointly controlled the nation's government.
Between the two great nations lay the Duchy of Keshila, which had originally also been jointly controlled by several Level 3 Factions.
But since The Furnace began its war of invasion, more than half of the Duchy of Keshila's factions had been wiped out. After a few more Furnace Wars, it would likely be incorporated into the Kingdom of Aeluria's territory.
After all, the so-called Kingdom of Aeluria had once merely been a small duchy.
Only after The Furnace's Level 4 wizard appeared did it begin expanding continuously, gradually growing stronger and becoming the kingdom it was today.
All in all, if Lynn wanted to return to The Furnace, he had to cross three countries.
Although The Furnace's apprentices could travel back and forth easily using powerful teleportation arrays, Lynn could now only rely on his own two legs, which undoubtedly made returning far more difficult.
After all, he was only a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice. His strength was limited, and he could not yet fly. Crossing the Three Kingdoms to return to The Furnace was no small challenge.
Fortunately, however, The Furnace had established a second front within the Duchy of Salam.
In other words, Lynn did not need to cross all three countries. He only needed to reach the other front line to send word of everything that had happened here.
This gave his situation a slight turn for the better.
"The Emerald Island Forest lies south of the Duchy of Salam, while the Pale Moon Plateau is in the duchy's Western Region. They are separated by two provinces. Traveling by horse, I can arrive in around a month at the fastest."
Lynn had prepared in advance when he was conscripted and bought a map of the Duchy of Salam. It finally came in handy today.
This was a map of the Wizard World, and it differed greatly from maps of the mortal world.
Its greatest feature was that it marked the locations of every extraordinary faction.
Wizard factions, wizard families, wizard trading grounds, and other such places within the Duchy of Salam were all clearly marked on the map.
"There is a fairly large city a few dozen li from here. I can go there first, get a good horse, then avoid the extraordinary factions and head straight for the Pale Moon Plateau."
Lynn marked out a route on the map, avoiding every obvious wizard faction.
He knew the current situation was complicated. Night Shadow Bunker and the Bitter Heart Sect had already joined forces, and no one could be sure whether the other Level 2 wizard factions or wizard families within the duchy had allied to oppose The Furnace.
Therefore, he did not want to take risks. It would be best to avoid all extraordinary factions as much as possible.
As for why he did not simply get a horse in this small city, Lynn had his own considerations—he did not have a single coin on him.
If he robbed someone for money and bought a horse in this small city, it would be far too conspicuous. It could easily cause trouble and might even expose him.
Going to a large city to get some money before buying a horse was clearly safer. Crime was more common in large cities, and it would also avoid causing too much of a commotion.
Lynn found it somewhat absurd that a dignified Level 2 Wizard Apprentice had actually fallen into such a predicament, without even gold, silver, or valuables to his name.
"Who would have thought The Furnace would lose so miserably... I always thought that Black Dragon Witch could control the overall situation and strategize from afar, yet she was turned around by others."
After all, in every previous war fought by The Furnace, it either crushed its enemies outright or dragged things out for a while before eventually winning through its overwhelming resources.
For the past hundred years, The Furnace had never suffered such a thorough defeat. What was more, this loss had actually happened under the Lord of the Furnace's student.
Even with a flying dragon right in their faces, they still managed to lose. Black Dragon Witch's reputation would likely suffer a devastating blow.
Of course, her reputation was secondary. Whether she could even survive was another matter...
