Chapter 47
Pale Moon Plateau, the heartland of the Furnace Army.
Amid a blaze of dazzling light, Lynn faced a man in robes.
The man had snow-white hair and beard. Behind his glasses, his gaze was sharp as a blade, filled with cold aggression.
A powerful aura erupted from him like a storm. All information in the surroundings was instantly sealed off, as though the entire world had bowed its head before this formidable being.
Lynn knew that the man before him was Helen, the leader of this Furnace Army and a terrifying Level 3 Great Wizard.
As he spoke with Helen, Lynn felt a violent wave of dizziness. Mere eye contact savagely drained his mental power, as if invisible iron chains had tightly bound his consciousness.
At that moment, Lynn clearly realized that under such overwhelming mental pressure, even the slightest lie could not escape Helen's perception.
The moment he lied, his mind would be crushed by that oppressive force.
However, Lynn had no intention of lying.
He knew that before such a powerful wizard, any concealment was no different from suicide.
Without holding anything back, he told Helen everything he knew, especially everything concerning the Emerald Island Forest.
Lynn understood that hiding any detail could bring disaster, so he truthfully recounted how he had escaped Night Shadow Bunker and struggled all the way to Pale Moon Plateau.
He even did not conceal that he had joined a treasure-hunting squad and possessed two spatial artifacts.
But to a Level 3 Great Wizard, mere spatial artifacts were of no concern. What mattered was the fact that Lynn had not concealed anything at all.
After more than ten minutes of conversation, Helen finally withdrew his magic. The surrounding radiance gradually dimmed, and his vast mental power slowly returned to his body.
The oppressive feeling in the air gradually vanished, and Lynn felt as though he had been freed from beneath a mountain.
Had there not been that mental clash just now, Lynn might have mistaken Helen for nothing more than a learned old man.
But now, he understood that the terror of this Great Wizard went far beyond the wisdom he displayed on the surface.
"Astrid is in trouble?" Helen murmured, a complicated glint flashing through his eyes. "Three Level 3 Great Wizards were enough to defeat Astrid?"
Helen's gaze deepened as he pondered for a moment. It was not that he doubted Astrid's strength. Although Astrid was exceptionally talented, she was ultimately only a Level 2 Wizard.
What truly made Helen suspicious was the Black Dragon at Astrid's side.
That Black Dragon was Lord of the Furnace's most effective weapon of war, invincible among Level 3 Wizards. Saying it could fight ten alone might have been exaggerated, but claiming that three Level 3 Wizards could capture the Black Dragon was impossible as well.
Yet even such a powerful being had failed to protect Astrid's escape. There had to be an indescribable mystery hidden within this.
Clearly, the situation in the Emerald Island Forest had already spiraled beyond control. Some troublesome change had occurred, one that even made Helen, a Level 3 Great Wizard, feel unprecedented pressure.
Just as Lynn was still thinking, Great Wizard Helen muttered something under his breath. Then several phantoms gradually condensed before him.
Each phantom radiated a powerful aura. They were clearly commanders from the Furnace's other fronts, all beings at the level of Level 3 Great Wizards, symbols of the Furnace's deep reserves of power.
Great Wizard Helen briefly explained the situation in the Emerald Island Forest. After hearing him out, the other Great Wizards exchanged glances and ultimately reached a unanimous conclusion.
"Good."
Helen spoke in a low voice, and before his words had even faded, the entire exchange came to an end.
Yet Lynn remained standing to one side, feeling somewhat unfamiliar with and confused by what had happened. The conversation between the Great Wizards had not used language at all, but magical communication. Not a single sound had emerged around them.
As Lynn fell silent, Great Wizard Helen suddenly turned toward him, smiled, and spoke gently.
"Your teacher is Rosalind, correct?"
"Yes, Lord Helen."
Lynn immediately nodded. Though he tried to remain calm, the powerful aura emanating from Helen made him feel instinctively pressured, and his demeanor became somewhat reserved.
It was not intentional. That aura simply caused his body to react naturally. It was a subconscious defensive mechanism against a powerful existence.
Helen gave a light smile, seemingly unconcerned. He waved a hand and said slowly.
"No need for that. Come with me."
Lynn was slightly stunned by those words. Realizing he might not have heard clearly, he instinctively asked after recovering.
"Lord Helen, are we going to the Emerald Island Forest?"
However, Great Wizard Helen shook his head, his tone calm and composed.
"No. Back to the Furnace. This matter is not something someone at my level can handle."
Lynn's heart tightened. He had originally thought Helen would personally deal with the matters in the Emerald Island Forest, especially since the situation there could not be ignored.
But unexpectedly, Helen did not choose to act in person. Instead, he decided to report the matter and return to the Furnace.
Clearly, he had no intention of taking risks and had chosen the more reliable course of action.
This response made Lynn sigh inwardly. As expected, Great Wizard Helen truly understood how to preserve himself. He was steady and cautious.
No wonder he had risen to the rank of a Level 3 Wizard within the Furnace and lived for so long.
"By the way, Lord Helen, there won't be any problem with the contract on me, right...?"
Lynn suddenly remembered a crucial issue.
He knew that returning to the Furnace was naturally a good thing, but if doing so triggered the contract's mechanism, he might be regarded as a deserter. That would be troublesome.
After hearing Lynn's words, Great Wizard Helen frowned slightly, and a few doubts arose in his heart.
What exactly had happened in the Emerald Island Forest for Lynn to mention a contract, the Furnace's final measure against apprentices?
Normally, unless they wanted someone to willingly go to their death, the Furnace had no need to use contracts to restrain apprentices.
After all, "benefits" and "fame and fortune" were better methods. Contracts instead seemed somewhat crude.
However, despite these thoughts, Helen did not rush to make a judgment.
He was, after all, a highly responsible wizard. Moreover, this young apprentice before him was the only person who had successfully escaped the Emerald Island Forest.
Helen did not want Lynn to fall into "unnecessary trouble" because of some misunderstanding or oversight.
Thus, Helen carefully examined the contract on Lynn and then gave an answer that greatly reassured him.
"Don't worry, Lynn. Even if you return to the Furnace and no longer participate in battle, there will be no contract backlash."
Lynn let out a sigh of relief, and the heavy stone in his heart finally fell away.
The problem caused by the Black Dragon Witch had finally come to an end because he had delivered the message to her.
