Chapter 48
Lynn followed Wizard Helen back to The Furnace.
As the stronghold of a Level 4 Morning Star Wizard, The Furnace remained as peaceful and stable as ever. Everything seemed to be running in an orderly fashion.
If there was any difference, it was that there were far fewer people here. The former bustle had become sparse and desolate, and an indescribable loneliness hung in the air.
Since Lynn was the sole messenger who had escaped from the Emerald Island Forest, his status was special. He was considered a free man, exempt from wartime conscription and not required to undertake The Furnace's routine work assignments.
Originally, Lynn had planned to greet his teacher, but unfortunately, his beautiful teacher was busy and had no time to see him. So he returned to the Potion Garden alone.
When Lynn returned to his dormitory in the Potion Garden, he found that time had flown by. Two months had passed since his last departure.
Although he had spent nearly all of those two months fleeing for his life and rushing from place to place, he had gained quite a lot when he looked back on it.
Wizard Helen did not care in the slightest about the things Lynn had brought back, so she had simply allowed him to keep them.
Now, Lynn began taking stock of what he had gained over these past days.
First was a spatial item filled with all kinds of potions.
Most of the potions were intended for Wizard Apprentices. Lynn made a rough estimate and found that they were enough to help him break through to Level 3 Wizard Apprentice, perhaps even with some left over.
Aside from these ordinary potions, the most important were three unfinished potions. They would be tremendously helpful in breaking through to become an Official Wizard.
Lynn treated these potions with exceptional care. Following the methods in Introduction to Potion Processing, he stored them properly to ensure they could achieve their greatest effect.
Second was another spatial item, filled with all manner of enchanted items.
After studying them for some time, Lynn had gained a preliminary understanding of one of the enchanted items—the dagger.
The dagger was made from extraordinary material and was sharp enough to slice through hair with a breath.
When imbued with mental power, it could also trigger elemental reactions, unleashing immense power.
As for the other enchanted items, Lynn planned to study them slowly in the future. Now that he had returned to The Furnace, he had plenty of time. Sooner or later, he would figure out their true purposes.
Finally, the gain that excited Lynn the most was Little Green.
Calling it a puppet seemed most fitting. Though it showed no signs of life and did not need to eat, it required maintenance with special potions.
Lynn was full of anticipation for Little Green's potential. Once it recovered to its optimal condition, it would be equivalent to having a powerful helper at the Great Knight level.
For someone like him, whose mental power was restricted, it was undoubtedly a tremendous aid. It might even play a decisive role in future battles.
After sorting through his gains, Lynn took a deep breath and began seriously considering his current situation and his next steps.
Previously, Lynn had stayed in the Potion Garden of The Furnace and had not gained any deep understanding of the environment within The Furnace.
However, after being tempered on the battlefield, he had finally realized clearly that, as an apprentice, he had virtually no rights in The Furnace.
On the battlefield, an apprentice's fate was entirely controlled by contracts. Even if an apprentice was ordered to die, the contract could force its execution. No one dared resist or refuse.
Lynn had once witnessed the gruesome death of an apprentice killed by a contract backlash. The scene still haunted him.
He understood that although he had returned to The Furnace and was far from the battlefield's immediate threats, the shackles of the contract remained. He still could not free himself from them.
Unless he became an Official Wizard and changed the "master-servant relationship" between himself and The Furnace, he would face the same fate again someday.
Therefore, becoming an Official Wizard was Lynn's most urgent task.
Only by becoming an Official Wizard could he gain a foothold in The Furnace, truly set foot on the Path of the Wizard, and pursue that unknown greatness.
Although Lynn was currently only a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice, when he had fought alongside his companions Colin and Sonia,
he had often heard them discuss matters concerning Official Wizards and had learned something about the requirements for becoming one.
According to their discussions, there were three main conditions for becoming an Official Wizard:
First, a Level 3 Wizard Apprentice's mental power had to reach a certain standard. This was the most basic requirement;
Second, the apprentice needed to prepare a Level 1 official spell, which would serve as a permanent spell imprint;
Third, the apprentice also needed a specific auxiliary potion to help break through into the realm of an Official Wizard.
None of these three requirements was easy.
The first required the apprentice's own strength, while the second and third involved vast resources. Purchasing potions and spells in particular often required a considerable amount of Magic Stones.
Looking back, Lynn realized that he had already unknowingly solved one of these problems.
That was the potion issue. He already had the potions needed for the breakthrough.
Once his potion-making skills improved, he could begin refining these potions, and this was precisely the problem that troubled other Level 3 apprentices.
"In other words, when I make my push for Official Wizard, I'll only need to buy a Level 1 official spell."
A glint flashed through Lynn's eyes as he thought of that enormous pile of enchanted items.
"Although Level 1 official spells aren't cheap, I gained so many enchanted items this time. I can sell them for enough resources."
With that, he had practically resolved two of the obstacles faced by other Level 3 apprentices.
The goal of becoming an Official Wizard seemed distant beyond reach, but there was actually a clear path to follow. As long as he proceeded step by step and built a solid foundation, he could reach it.
Lynn already had a clear plan in mind. Becoming an Official Wizard no longer seemed so abstract or fantastical.
The road was certainly difficult, but he seemed to have found a shortcut that belonged to him.
Taking a deep breath, Lynn decided to use this rare time alone to focus on refining the potions in his possession and break through to Level 3 Wizard Apprentice as soon as possible.
"No one will disturb me now. This is the perfect time to concentrate."
He muttered quietly.
After preparing ample food and water and confirming that the dormitory door was shut, Lynn began organizing the potions he intended to consume.
Every bottle had been carefully selected to suit his current needs.
"Tears of the Day is suitable for improving a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice. There's one last bottle."
"Mindy's Affection can increase mental power. It's the most helpful for a Level 2 apprentice."
"Secret of the Ocean can benefit both Level 2 and Level 3 apprentices. I'll drink this one last."
Lynn arranged the potions one by one, silently calculating his breakthrough plan.
His mental power had now reached 12 points, while the peak of Level 2 Wizard Apprentice should be 15 points. He was already very close.
He poured the last bottle of Tears of the Day into his mouth. Instantly, he felt his mental power erupt. His entire spiritual domain began to boil as the potion's effects swiftly spread throughout his body.
Lynn closed his eyes and immersed himself deeply in his cultivation.
Having gained so many resources, he was determined not to waste a single moment until he had completely consumed these potions and achieved his breakthrough.
Unless Wizard Helen needed him and forcibly summoned him, he was determined to remain in seclusion here until he broke through to Level 3 Wizard Apprentice before making any further plans.
