Chapter 50: Fierce Battle in the Police Station (Part II)

Other survivors?

Li Wei glanced at the monitor. It was a security camera placed at the main entrance of the police station, capturing the entire area surrounding the front gate.

The survivors Nina spoke of were five men—five extremely burly men, at least according to Nina.

One of them wore a black tactical vest, his thick muscles exposed, wielding a weapon that resembled a heavy machine gun. Wherever the bullets swept, the zombie horde fell in droves, like wheat being harvested.

The others carried cold weapons of varying sizes. Nina was astonished to find that one of them was even holding an iron club similar to a spiked mace.

But this club was far too thick—at least the girth of a normal person's thigh—and covered in dense, jagged metal spikes. Any zombie struck by this mace was instantly reduced to a pile of rotten meat. This man was even taller and broader than the one holding the machine gun.

The remaining three included one holding a wooden crossbow, one wielding dual blades, and the last one was the most exaggerated of all: he held a shield in his left hand and an axe in his right, dressed exactly like a medieval knight.

"Li Wei, look! Why are they dressed like that? Did they rob a museum? That man's gun is impressive, but I've never seen anything like it!" Nina said, her face full of surprise, and she started to head toward the main gate.

"Wait!" Li Wei grabbed Nina's hand, stopping her.

Even without using the Eye of Perception, Li Wei knew clearly that these five people definitely came from Shadow Street just like him, and were all Reincarnators who had undergone some form of enhancement. However, they were certainly not part of the first batch.

From the very beginning, Li Wei had used his superior memory to record the appearances, characteristics, and identification numbers of those hundreds of people. The five men before him were clearly not among them, which left only one explanation: they were the second batch of "Reincarnators."

And that brought up a problem!

His own mission was to kill five hostile second-batch Reincarnators. So, what was the mission of the second batch? Could it be to kill the first batch of Reincarnators as well?

The probability was quite high. If that were the case, these five should have been searching for the first batch of Reincarnators. Why would they come to the police station? They shouldn't have known he was here!

Or perhaps they were just passing by, or maybe, like him, they were searching for intelligence and clues that could only be found at a police station!

Li Wei couldn't fathom it! But regardless, these five were not friends; they were enemies. That much was beyond doubt.

Furthermore, Li Wei was astonished to discover that these five men seemed completely unafraid of the zombies, and while the zombies were being attacked by them, they showed no signs of retaliating.

It felt as if the zombies viewed these men as their own kind.

How was that possible?

The five men on the screen gathered together, seemingly checking something. Li Wei deduced it was a Yellow Paper; only that item was invisible to anyone other than its owner.

What were they doing? Li Wei observed closely that the five were cross-referencing something, and throughout the process, they kept looking toward the interior of the police station, as if they knew something they were looking for was inside.

Seeing the five preparing to enter, a possibility suddenly occurred to Li Wei.

"Damn it!" Jumping up from his seat, Li Wei immediately grabbed Nina and ran out, rushing through the corridor to the innermost office.

With superhuman strength, Li Wei kicked open the locked door. After pushing the bewildered Nina inside, he spoke a single command in a stern tone before hurrying away.

That command was: "Stay in here. No matter what you hear, do not come out until I come to get you!"

Nina felt a bit angry. Who did he think he was, ordering her around? Yet, she didn't take a single step out of the room. Despite her reluctance, Li Wei's unique aura made her obey the command subconsciously. Moreover, thinking of the Asian man's resolute face, Nina found herself blushing unexpectedly.

Li Wei ran at top speed. He was certain that these five men had come for him—or rather, for the first batch of Reincarnators like him.

He could roughly deduce their mission: it was surely to kill a certain number of hostile Reincarnators. However, they clearly had an advantage: they could obtain the locations of the first-batch players from the Guardians.

Most likely, it was marked directly on their map. The formation the five used to enter the police station was a standard tactical formation; they wouldn't have done that if they hadn't known enemies were inside.

If that were the case, running was useless. They had a "radar." Since that was so, it was better to fight it out. Having lost his left arm, Li Wei's personality had become more violent and combative than before, and especially after his abilities were enhanced, he was eager to test their effectiveness in real combat.

The two sides met in the police station lobby. Li Wei held the True Nuwa's Rapier in one hand, looking at the five men before him. The man with the shield and hand-axe stood at the front. He hadn't been able to see clearly on the monitor, but now Li Wei noticed the man was wearing a suit of heavy armor; just by looking, he knew the defense was formidable.

ID: 708, Dwarf bloodline, Shield Warrior, Strength 32, Agility 17, Spirit 5, Stamina 21, Skills: Heroic Strike, Shield Bash, Rating: C1.

HP: 210.

C1-level! A bit difficult, but Li Wei didn't care at all. He swept his eyes over the others; the lowest rating among them was D1.

Their HP was 180, 150, 200, and 110 respectively. Clearly, the Shield Warrior had the highest stamina. A team like this would make even the current Zheng Yutong retreat and avoid their edge, but Li Wei, who had just acquired Mind Impact, needed exactly such a whetstone.

Since they were enemies, there was no need for small talk. Start the fight!

He had to reduce their numbers in the first strike, or it would be a tough battle!

Li Wei launched the attack first, using a Remote Cloud Piercing Palm aimed at the man with the crossbow. His HP was 110, the lowest of the group. However, Li Wei realized this guy's weapon was more threatening than the heavy machine gun; ordinary bullets could be well-defended by the Earth Fiend Set, but it might not stop these crossbow bolts.

Simultaneously, the longsword in his hand slashed toward the Shield Warrior. The attack from the Cloud Piercing Palm and the longsword landed on the targets almost at the same time, showing just how swift and fluid Li Wei's combo was.

The crossbowman was stunned by the sudden strike. Although the Remote Cloud Piercing Palm didn't deal high damage, it was incredibly fast, causing him to stagger and lose 30 HP. The Shield Warrior was clearly stronger; the moment Li Wei's sword was about to strike, he raised his shield to block.

Clang! With a crisp metallic sound, the shield blocked the slash. Li Wei's strength was 2 points lower than his opponent's, so he held no advantage in power and dealt no damage to the Shield Warrior. Of course, Li Wei's goal wasn't to rely on the sword to wound him; his true killing blow was the Rock Earth Spike.

The formation the five had gathered in allowed Li Wei's Rock Earth Spike to deal maximum damage. Several sharp stone spikes erupted from the ground, instantly piercing through two of them.

The burly man with the machine gun and the staggering crossbowman died instantly. Their HP was 80 and 150 respectively; under the Rock Earth Spike, which had an attack power of around 200, they didn't even have a chance to scream.

Hostile players killed: 2.

"Third Brother! Fifth Brother... I'll kill you, you turtle-bastard!" The burly man with the mace had bloodshot eyes. Although the earth spikes had grazed his arm, he seemed not to feel the pain, raising his weapon to smash at Li Wei.

"Second Brother, don't be reckless!" The Shield Warrior was a step too late; he hadn't been able to save his brothers.

Li Wei's pupils suddenly dilated into a cross shape. The air in front of him rippled violently. Papers on the surrounding tables were swept up as if by a gale, scattering everywhere, while the wooden floorboards were forcibly "dragged" up by an invisible force—one piece, two pieces... like a ferocious beast, it roared and charged toward the enemy.

The Second Brother with the mace had never seen such a display. He tried to use his mace to block, only to find it was all in vain.

HP -1000.

The immense impact shattered his mace into a dozen pieces, followed immediately by his arm, which turned into a mist of blood with a loud "bang." The power of the Mind Impact did not end there; the man known as Second was sent flying over ten meters away, crashing out through the police station lobby window. He had already breathed his last while still in mid-air.

Hostile player killed, count: 3.

In an instant, Li Wei had killed three people, leaving only the dumbstruck Guardian and the man wielding dual blades. Li Wei didn't even need to look to know their remaining health.

Their hearts hammered wildly in their chests. Was the gap really this wide? No, it must be that the opponent possessed peculiar weapons and powerful skills to be this monstrous.

This one-armed man's rating must have already exceeded B-rank; otherwise, he couldn't be this formidable. The Guardian let out a loud shout, and the short axe in his hand was suddenly suffused with a white glow as he hacked fiercely toward Li Wei.

Heroic Strike!

Li Wei's pupils shrank to the size of pinpricks. He had intended to use Mind Impact again, but discovered that the skill could not be used consecutively; it required a cooldown of at least five seconds to cast again. For an expert, that amount of time was enough to put a person to death.

The opponent's Heroic Strike posed a massive threat to Li Wei. Cannot meet this head-on, was the judgment Li Wei made in a split second. He immediately sidestepped, dodging the lethal axe blade.

With a boom, the axe cleaved into the floor like a grenade exploding nearby. The tremendous force gouged a pit over two meters in diameter into the floor, and Li Wei was also knocked back several steps by the shockwave.

Impressive!

Li Wei wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with one hand, thinking to himself how close that had been. If he hadn't dodged just now and had chosen to block instead, he could have kissed his right arm goodbye.

The Guardian, pressing his advantage, swung the short axe and charged forward again. However, by this time, Li Wei's Mind Impact was available once more. Without hesitation, he activated the skill.

Seeing the situation turn dire, the Guardian hurriedly shielded himself with his massive shield. A sound so loud it caused ringing in the ears erupted, and he was sent flying like a kite with a broken string, slamming into the wall. The wall, which had been incredibly sturdy, collapsed with a roar.

Health reduced by 150. The defensive shield and armor saved his life.

After releasing the skill, Li Wei felt a wave of dizziness. This Mind Impact consumes too much mental energy, he thought. It seems I can't keep using it. Fortunately, only one enemy remained: the man using the dual blades.

As for the Guardian, he was not dead; his massive shield and armor had provided excellent protection, but even so, he was now incapable of continuing the fight.

"You—what kind of skill is that?" the final dual-blade warrior asked, looking at Li Wei with trepidation. The battle, which had lasted less than ten seconds, had completely shattered his will to fight.

The one-armed man before him was simply too powerful!

Li Wei ignored him. There was no point in speaking to a man who was as good as dead. With a massive advantage, Li Wei thrust his longsword through the man's heart. Only after the blood-spurting corpse hit the ground did Li Wei hear the message transmitted by the Yellow Paper.

Hostile player killed, count: 4. Note: Kill one more person, and you will be forcibly teleported back to Shadow Street.

Upon hearing this prompt, Li Wei paused. His original goal was to find William, obtain the G-Virus, and gain the power of Regeneration. If he returned to Shadow Street now, wouldn't everything be in vain?

Furthermore, Zheng Yutong and the others were still in this mission world, so Li Wei chose not to complete the kill mission for the time being.

"You're lucky; I won't kill you today!" Li Wei said to the Guardian, who lay unable to rise. Ignoring the man's curses, he collected the four Skill Books and the Guardian dropped by the deceased, then left the lobby.
