Li Wei began as a diligent but frustrated office employee targeted by his supervisor, Fat Pig Zhang. A mysterious delivery containing the Devil Game contract drew him into the Shadow World after he signed it and lost consciousness 1.

Assigned ID 1987, Li Wei entered the Legend of Sword and Fairy world for his Initial Trial. He used his familiarity with the source game to pursue a high evaluation, deliberately burning the Mountain God Temple to alter Li Xiaoyao's route to learning sword techniques. The decision triggered a far more dangerous mission against the Lantern Ghost, which he survived only after fighting it into the fire and being rescued by the Wine Sword Immortal 2 3 5.

He later rescued Zhao Ling'er, fought Black Miao Tribesmen alongside her and the wraith released by his lantern, and chose to remain in the plot world after completing his main tasks. His intervention in the original plot earned him an A-rank Initial Trial assessment and five attribute points 8 9 10.

After reaching Shadow Street, Li Wei adapted quickly to its economy and survival rules. He invested in Spirit-based abilities, traded for cultivation techniques, and developed a pattern of using information, preparation, and risky plot deviations to gain advantages 11 14 16.
