Alchemy Reward
He finished the Icelandic fried cod in a few bites, then grabbed Daphne and left the Great Hall, heading straight for the Charms Class.
Professor Flitwick was one of the most lenient professors. He didn't mention collecting homework in the first class, only saying it was due on Friday, which relieved many of the young wizards.
No new spells were taught in this lesson; it was just a review of last semester's material.
After all, many students haven't touched a wand all summer, and they won't be able to keep up if we teach them something new now.
Tom was idly practicing the Twisting Charm when suddenly, a system notification sounded: [The system detected that the host has applied their knowledge; their alchemical invention has been purchased by the Britain Ministry of Magic. 1000 Magic Credits and 20 Achievement Points have been awarded.]
Tom's eyes lit up instantly, and he was overjoyed: he had guessed right!
You can also earn system rewards by using the skills you've learned to invent and create!
The lack of subsequent revenue likely stems from the fact that the Anti-Disarm Bracelet's influence is less than that of the active ingredient extraction, making it a one-off transaction.
However, this is just the beginning. He has many more inventions waiting to be implemented. Once WeChat is perfected, the amount of academic credits and achievement points he can earn will be enormous.
I'll definitely have enough credits in the future, and who knows, one day I might be able to maintain this Transcendental State for a long time.
"Mr. Riddle, what's wrong?" Professor Flitwick appeared beside him at some point.
Watching him grinning to himself for a long time, I finally couldn't help but ask.
Tom snapped back to reality and blurted out a lie, "Nothing, Professor, I just accidentally hit myself with the Laughing Mantra."
As he spoke, he deliberately shook his wand, and Zabini in front of him suddenly chuckled foolishly.
Zabini smiled, and Nott couldn't help but laugh out loud too; the laughter quickly spread throughout the class.
In the end, even Professor Flitwick smiled helplessly, and the class ended amidst laughter.
Students from both colleges rushed to the greenhouse to prepare for their Herbology.
But as soon as they entered, everyone noticed something was wrong; Professor Sprout's usual amiable demeanor was completely gone.
With a stern face and brows furrowed so deeply they could trap a mosquito, this kind old lady today resembled a volcano ready to erupt at any moment.
"Professor, what's wrong? Who made you angry?" Tom leaned closer and asked with a "concerned" look, though he already had a guess in his mind.
Sprout forced a smile that looked more like a grimace:
"It's nothing, it's just that before class, Professor Lockhart questioned my expertise in Herbology, saying that I was teaching useless things."
Tom suddenly realized and nodded, "Oh, it's him. That's alright then."
Anything outrageous can happen when Lockhart is involved.
"Mr. Riddle, is there something you need?" Professor Sprout asked, suppressing his anger.
Tom rubbed his hands together and revealed his purpose:
"Professor, I saw yesterday that the Whomping Willow' had lost a lot of branches and leaves. Could you share some with me? I need them."
Tom was planning to use the materials from the Whomping Willow to replace several ingredients in his invention, "IChat," which was basically a cost-cutting measure.
The current cost of a copy of "IChat" is still 100 Galleon, and that was only because Nicolas Flamel helped to reduce the cost.
The first few books he dabbled in cost over 300 Galleon each, not even counting the alchemist's labor costs.
While many families could afford one hundred Galleon, would you really expect these old fogies in the Wizarding World to spend that much money on a new form of communication?
Dream on! Keeping an owl only costs a few dollars; its annual food supply is at most two Galleon. The cost-effectiveness is obvious.
Tom's goal was clear: to reduce the cost to below fifty Galleon for widespread adoption to be possible, and ideally, to below twenty.
If the Whomping Willow" can be successfully substituted, it can save at least ten to fifteen Galleon, which is a worthwhile investment no matter how you look at it.
Professor Sprout frowned after hearing this:
"But Professor Snape took most of the materials, and I have other plans for what I have left, so I can't give them to you."
"At the dean's?" Tom's eyes lit up; instead of being disappointed, he laughed out loud.
"Thank you, Professor. I'll just go ask him for it!"
Asking someone for something makes you indebted to them, but asking Snape? Well, he can do it without hesitation, so why not take advantage of him?
Professor Sprout, assuming the two were close, smiled and nodded, letting Tom into the greenhouse.
If she knew what Snape was really thinking, she'd probably burst out laughing.
If Snape heard the words "good relationship," he'd jump up and yell, "Who's good to this brat!"
"Today we're going to repot the Mandrake. Can anyone tell me about the characteristics of Mandrake?" Professor Sprout clapped his hands and asked.
Since Tom wasn't in the same class as Gryffindor, he had no competitors and slowly raised his hand.
"Mandrake, also known as Mandrake Root, is a raw material for powerful restorative agents. It can be used to refine resurrection potions and restorative agents, and is specifically used to break curses and Transfiguration Spell."
"Excellent! Slytherin gets ten points!" Professor Sprout generously added the points.
He then began to emphasize the danger again. "The cry of the Mandrake can be deadly, but that is when it is fully mature."
"These are all seedlings in the greenhouse. Hearing this will only make you dizzy, and if you're unlucky, you might faint. Be careful, everyone."
About a hundred green seedlings with purple tinges were neatly arranged in a tray in the classroom.
"Each of you wear a pair of earmuffs before you start!" As soon as Professor Sprout finished speaking, the young wizards rushed forward and scrambled for them.
Daphne was the fastest runner, snatching the pink velvet earmuffs that everyone else was avoiding, and even waving them triumphantly.
"Hehe!" The girl stood on tiptoe and put it on Tom without saying a word. The pink color made Tom's face look even whiter.
Several Ravenclaw girls nearby watched, pursing their lips and giggling.
Tom poked her little head helplessly, but didn't take it off. It was his little witch's choice, so she had to wear it no matter how ugly it was.
Professor Sprout put on his ear covers and began demonstrating the repotting process.
Amidst the horrified gazes of the crowd, she grabbed a blade of grass and pulled hard, only to find that it wasn't the root that she pulled out.
Instead, it was an incredibly ugly baby with wrinkled, light green skin, wailing loudly.
Fortunately, everyone was wearing earmuffs, so we couldn't hear a sound.
After changing the basin, she gestured for everyone to remove their ear covers:
"Follow my steps exactly. Make sure you wear your earmuffs properly. I don't want you to spend your first day of school lying down. Okay, let's begin!"
After being warned, the young wizards behaved themselves, only daring to act after confirming that they couldn't hear each other's curses.
Tom and Daphne were grouped together as a pair of four, and they happened to be grouped with Padma Patil and Mandy Brocklehurst from Ravenclaw.
Padma is considered the prettiest girl in the second year of Ravenclaw, and she comes from a high caste.
She has Aryan blood, comes from a wealthy family, has fair skin, and exudes an exotic charm.
She was very curious about Tom, and even with her ears covered, she kept smiling at Tom and gesturing wildly as if trying to communicate.
