I Want to Learn to Cook
In the small garden at the center, Hannah stared blankly at the two small cakes in front of her. One was a beluga caviar mille-feuille, and the other was a black truffle chocolate lava cake.
She tried to recall, and realized that she really had no connection with Granger or Greengrass.
She had an instinctive sense of awe for Hermione, was first in her class, excelled in every subject, and even her professors praised her.
Greengrass is a Pure-blood princess from a prominent family, with no shortage of money or power. Her family, on the other hand, barely manages to make ends meet. They are from completely different worlds.
These two cakes are the most expensive kind in Madam Puddifoot's Tea Shop. A senior student bought them from Hogsmeade last time and showed them off for a long time.
Hannah swallowed hard. "Did you send this to the wrong person?"
Hermione and Daphne smiled brightly in unison. Daphne said, "Don't be so formal, we're all classmates, just call me Daphne."
Hermione said, "Just call me Hermione."
Daphne pointed to the beluga caviar mille-feuille. "This is a beluga caviar mille-feuille; it has a very rich and layered texture."
Hermione pointed to the black truffle chocolate lava cake. "This is a black truffle chocolate lava cake. I asked your roommate, and you like sweets, especially chocolate."
Hannah took a deep breath, making up her mind. Eating it was a win-win situation. Surely the two wouldn't poison her, would they?
"Thank you," she said, and began to eat heartily.
Daphne took a lemonade out of her bag and placed it next to her. Hermione conjured Bluebell Flames, and blue flames danced in the air, casting a warm light on the three of them.
Hannah finished the last bite, her face beaming with satisfaction. She wiped her mouth and thumped her chest loudly.
"If you need any help, just tell me. I'll definitely help if I can, even with your homework, I'll do it for you."
While eating the cake, she realized that these two must need something from her, which was why they were being so enthusiastic.
Hufflepuff loves making friends, and anyone who gives her a little cake is her best friend.
Daphne exclaimed dramatically, "Hannah, you are truly the smartest and friendliest Hufflepuff I have ever met!"
Hannah blushed.
Hermione said, "This morning in class, Tom told me he especially loved your broth and Four Seasons Lamb Leg, saying they were infinitely better than the ones at school."
"I just want to learn how to cook from you so I can cook for myself in the future."
Daphne nodded. "Me too."
Hannah realized her anxiety had been completely unnecessary and agreed without hesitation. "I'll let you know next time I need to cook."
"You know where Hufflepuff's lounge is, right? You can come find me there; the kitchen is right by the door."
She felt a little guilty. "I've never taught anyone how to cook before, so the results might not be very good."
Hermione quickly said, "It's our problem if we can't learn it, not yours. You just need to explain things in more detail during the cooking process, and we'll take notes and study them slowly."
Hannah said, "Cooking is actually a process of practice makes perfect. If you master the recipe, seasonings, and heat, it's easy to succeed."
Daphne suddenly said, "I think Christmas wouldn't be a bad time either."
Hannah's eyes widened, her two pigtails swaying back and forth; she hadn't expected Daphne to be so passionate about cooking.
"Then you'll have to come to my house to study. It's quite convenient using the Floo Network."
Daphne called softly, "Parla."
A sudden loud bang echoed through the air, and a House-elf appeared, with dark green skin, bulbous eyes, and bat-like ears.
He wore a tea towel embroidered with the Greengrass family crest.
"Parla greets Miss Daphne." Parla bowed deeply, her voice high-pitched.
Hannah recognized it as House-elf, Hermione, unaware of what she was talking about, curiously watched the strange creature that had suddenly appeared.
Daphne said, "Actually, it's not me who wants to learn cooking from you, it's her. I've never been in a kitchen before, I don't even know the basics, it would definitely take you a long time to teach me."
"Parla is different. She's quite skilled in housekeeping and cooking. If you let her learn from you, she can help you with housework."
Daphne was self-aware; having never even touched a kitchen knife, there was no way she could quickly learn cooking skills.
So what are her advantages? Money and family background.
Sending out a House-elf would suffice; she wanted to win Tom's heart through his stomach, but House-elf could do the same.
Hannah's eyes lit up; she was clearly tempted. The Abbott Family didn't have such a perfect tool to use; the parents did all the housework themselves.
Hannah's heart skipped a beat, her eyes lighting up. "R-really? Does that mean your family won't have House-elf to help you?"
Daphne waved her hand dismissively. "Don't worry, I have two House-elf at home," she commanded Parla.
"When you get to Hannah's house, you must listen to Hannah and her parents. You need to learn Hannah's cooking skills well, because I'll be checking when we get back."
Parla replied with great enthusiasm, "Parla understands, Miss Hannah, please use me as you see fit!"
Hannah clicked her tongue inwardly; Greengrass was truly a rich scoundrel.
For other Pure-blood House-elf is something to be proud of, but the Greengrass family actually has three.
She felt she had really hit the jackpot by teaching a little cooking and receiving such attentive care from her House-elf for the entire holiday.
After separating from Hannah, Hermione asked, "Daphne, what are House-elf? Are they magical creatures? Why haven't I seen anything about them in * Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them to Find Them*?"
Daphne patiently explained, "House-elf aren't considered Fantastic Beasts. They're similar to Goblin and dwarves; they're a magical race."
"Many Pure-blood families have House-elf as servants to handle daily chores and chores."
Upon hearing the term "servant," Hermione instinctively frowned. Having received a modern, elite middle-class education, she couldn't accept such a feudal term.
"But I read in <Hogwarts: Hogwarts, A History> that Apparition is forbidden at Hogwarts, so how did the House-elf manage to do it?"
Daphne looked at her strangely. "Why are you so interested in House-elf?"
Tom told me that Hogwarts only forbids wizards; House-elf are not restricted, and the headmaster's phoenix is too.
Hermione didn't say anything more, but she secretly resolved to do her research when she got back and learn more about this mysterious race.
Daphne didn't think much of it and briskly returned to the castle to play with Tom.
