The moment they stepped fully into the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.
"Bang!"
Trunks' legs suddenly gave way, and he slammed onto the white tiles on one knee.
"Cough... cough-cough!" He braced his hands firmly against the ground, gasping for air, his face turning beet red in an instant. "Is... is this the Hyperbolic Time Chamber?!"
The Trunks of this timeline had absolutely no experience with hyper-gravity training. The gravity, ten times that of Earth, pressed down on his spine like an invisible mountain. Not only that, but the air here was agonizingly thin; every breath he drew into his lungs felt like swallowing knives. Even more terrifying was the temperature—one moment it felt like being inside a furnace, and the next, as if he had fallen into an ice cave, with extreme cold and heat alternating in the air without any pattern.
Looking around, aside from the small Lookout Plaza beneath his feet, everything else was a vast, white expanse. There were no boundaries, no reference points, and even his sense of direction was completely lost here.
Void, oppressive.
"This is only the beginning, Trunks." Gohan stood steadily in place.
Although this was his first time encountering such an environment, he had prepared in advance, so he was not as disheveled as Trunks.
He looked down at the purple-haired youth who was still struggling to adapt. "Stand up, Trunks. The gravity here isn't even a tenth of what your father trained in back in the day. As long as you can move freely here, your strength will improve rapidly."
Trunks gritted his teeth, veins bulging on his hands, and forced himself to stand straight against the tenfold gravity. Sweat dripped wildly down his chin, evaporating the instant it hit the white tiles.
"Father..." Trunks panted heavily, his eyes filled with a mix of longing and frustration. "Big Brother Gohan, with my current strength, even if I stay here for a year, can I really defeat the Androids? I... I can't even turn into a Super Saiyan yet!"
In Trunks' understanding, transforming into a Super Saiyan was the only way to fight the Androids, yet he had tried time and time again without success.
Gohan watched him quietly.
In the original story, Trunks had seen his own mangled corpse in the pouring rain, and it was only under the stimulation of that extreme despair and grief that he had broken through his limits. But now, with Gohan alive and well, Trunks had naturally lost that most intense emotional trigger.
However, as a transmigrator, Gohan's mind was filled with various versions of transformation tutorials, so helping him succeed wouldn't be difficult.
"Trunks." Gohan walked up to him, his tone calm. "Your base combat power has actually already touched the threshold of transformation; you just haven't found the right way to channel your energy."
"The way to channel energy?" Trunks was stunned.
"Close your eyes." Gohan ordered in a deep voice.
Trunks immediately obeyed.
"Now, focus all your attention on your back." Gohan recalled the tips Vegeta had taught the Saiyans of Universe 6 in the main timeline from his past-life memories. "Gather all the ki in your body to that single point between your shoulder blades."
Trunks furrowed his brows, following Gohan's guidance to mobilize his ki and gather it bit by bit toward his back.
"Feel that spot—is there a tingling sensation? Like countless needles pricking you, accompanied by a strong numbness?" Gohan's voice echoed in the empty space.
"I... I feel it!" Trunks snapped his eyes open, a look of disbelief flashing in his purple pupils.
"Now, take that tingling sensation, along with your ki, and detonate it all at once!" Gohan shouted sharply.
"Aaaaaah--!"
Trunks mobilized all his ki and pushed with all his might.
Boom!
A violent surge of energy exploded from his center, instantly scattering the stifling air around him. A golden aura erupted from his body like a volcanic eruption; his hair stood on end, turning gold, and his eyes turned green.
Super Saiyan!
"I did it, I actually did it?!" Trunks looked at his hands, wrapped in a golden aura, in disbelief, feeling the unprecedented, massive power within his body.
But after maintaining it for less than ten seconds, the golden aura was like dynamite with its fuse cut, extinguishing instantly. Trunks' legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the ground, gasping for air as his ki was almost completely drained.
"Very good. Remember that feeling." Gohan nodded, not disappointed that he had reverted to his base state.
"Yeah." Trunks wiped the cold sweat from his forehead.
"What I'm about to tell you next is the real point."
Gohan sat cross-legged in front of Trunks, his expression becoming incredibly serious.
"Trunks, do you think that as long as you can become a Super Saiyan, you will definitely be able to defeat the Androids?"
Trunks was taken aback and nodded subconsciously. "Isn't that right? The Super Saiyan is the legendary strongest warrior, after all."
"No, the most important thing is actually your base combat power." Gohan said slowly. "The Super Saiyan transformation increases your base combat power by fifty times."
"Fifty times?" This was the first time Trunks had heard this figure so precisely.
"That's right. If your base combat power is three million, multiplying it by fifty makes it one hundred and fifty million. If your base is one hundred million, then the transformation is five billion!
"Therefore, base combat power is the core factor that determines your upper limit." Gohan stood up, and the ki within him erupted instantly.
Trunks suddenly realized, as if enlightened.
Boom!
A golden aura soared into the sky as Gohan entered the Super Saiyan state.
"Watch closely, Trunks. The Super Saiyan transformation actually has several stages."
Gohan let out a low shout, and the aura around him expanded once more. Accompanied by the teeth-gritting sound of grinding bones, his muscles bulged crazily like an inflating balloon, stretching his tattered martial arts uniform until it was taut, and his entire frame grew a size larger.
"This is the second stage of the Super Saiyan, where the power is even greater than the standard form."
Immediately after, Gohan exerted his power again.
"Haaaa!"
His muscles swelled to an exaggerated degree, with veins coiling across his skin like knotted dragons, and his golden hair stood even more rigidly on end, like the quills of a hedgehog. This terrifying pressure caused the very air under ten times gravity to emit groans of unbearable strain.
Both stages were quite simple; Son Gohan mastered them with ease after a little contemplation and demonstrated them to Trunks.
"This is the third stage of Super Saiyan," Gohan's voice became somewhat deep and gravelly. "Trunks, what do you think of this form?"
Trunks swallowed hard, feeling that world-destroying power, and nodded repeatedly. "So strong! With this kind of power, I could definitely blast the Androids to dust!"
"Foolish!"
Gohan rebuked him sharply and immediately deactivated the muscular form, his body instantly returning to its well-proportioned state.
Trunks was stunned by the scolding.
"This form, which relies on forcibly expanding the muscles to trade for power, is a dead end!" Gohan coldly pointed out the fatal flaw. "The power does indeed increase exponentially, but look at that physique from just a moment ago—to what extent would your speed drop? If you can't land a hit on your enemy, what use is all that strength?"
Gohan sighed inwardly, glad he had blocked this detour for Trunks ahead of time. In the original Cell Saga, this kid had been obsessed with this muscular form, only to be played like a monkey by Perfect Cell.
"What's more fatal is that this form consumes ki at a terrifying rate," Gohan continued. "The Androids are monsters with infinite stamina. If you use this kind of war of attrition, you'll exhaust yourself to death before they even have to lift a finger."
Trunks broke out in a cold sweat, finally understanding Gohan's intentions.
"Then what should we do?"
"Strive for Full Power."
"What is Full Power?" The look in Trunks' eyes had completely changed; it was an intense thirst for strength.
"Ahem, well, that's still too early for us."
Gohan pretended to cough and changed the subject.
He pointed toward the boundless white void outside.
"For this year, let's just focus on continuously improving our base strength." A cold, cruel arc curled at the corner of Gohan's mouth. "Are you ready to welcome hell, Trunks?"
"I'm ready anytime!" Trunks stood up abruptly, braced himself against the ten times gravity, and assumed his fighting stance.
