Background / History
Wu Fan transmigrated into the one-armed Son Gohan of the despair timeline shortly after Androids 17 and 18 had seemingly killed him. He chose the Legendary Super Saiyan bloodline from four starter rewards, then used a Senzu Bean to fully recover from his wounds. Taking the original Gohan’s memories and combat instincts as his own, he resolved to prevent the timeline’s tragedy from repeating. 1 2
This Gohan inherited a world where Goku had died of a heart disease, the Z Fighters had been killed by the Androids, Piccolo’s death had rendered the Dragon Balls inert, and young Trunks was Earth’s remaining hope. The original Gohan had lost his left arm while protecting Trunks and had fought the Androids alone after knocking his student unconscious. 1
Rather than confront the Androids immediately, Gohan took Trunks to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. He trained Trunks to become a Super Saiyan, taught him the importance of base power, and pursued both Legendary Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 4. Their excessive training power distorted the chamber’s time anchor, sending them into the past of a parallel main timeline. 3 4 6
Following Ultimate Cell’s defeat, Gohan continued working with Trunks and Mr. Popo to repair timelines corrupted by Original Dragon Balls and Miracle Power. In one altered timeline, he eliminated Lin Fan’s aberration and recovered the Three-Star Original Dragon Ball; in another, he led an assault on the Saiyan Empire ruled by the evil Kakarot. 30 33 35
Appearance
Gohan is a battle-worn, one-armed adult Saiyan who wears a tattered orange martial arts uniform. His missing left arm and numerous scars visibly mark the years he spent surviving in the despair timeline. 1 6
- Sharp brows and a resolute expression. 1
- Deep scar at the corner of his right eye. 1
- Empty left sleeve from his severed arm. 1
- Muscular body marked by crisscrossing scars. 7 10
- Super Saiyan 4 manifests scarlet fur, long wild black hair, red eye-shadow, and golden slit pupils. 15
- Legendary Super Saiyan manifests grass-green hair, a massive frame, and a tangible green aura. 8 39
Personality
Gohan is deliberate, pragmatic, and intensely committed to changing fate. Although the Legendary Super Saiyan bloodline gives him immense natural potential, he refuses to depend on it and continually trains for threats beyond his current enemies. 1 5
He is a patient mentor to Trunks, explaining transformation mechanics, correcting reckless thinking, and intervening only when Trunks has reached his limit. 4 37 He also protects Trunks instinctively, including taking battles away from Earth, shielding him from Demonized Golden Great Apes, and surrendering to Kakarot’s threat rather than allow Trunks to be killed. 17 42 50
In battle, Gohan combines his inherited combat instincts with calculated strategy. He evaluates unknown powers before acting, uses Vegeta to probe Lin Fan’s strength, identifies Kakarot’s dependence on Miracle Power, and deliberately deceives Kakarot into lowering his guard. 25 38 44 46
Abilities & Skills
Legendary Super Saiyan Bloodline
A mutated Saiyan bloodline with limitless ki growth and a combat power that rises as battle continues. It is stated to appear only once in a universe at a given time. 1 7
- Automatically doubles his base combat power every year. 1
- Possesses no stated upper limit to ki or combat growth. 1 7
- Lets him retain his sanity rather than becoming a mindless berserker. 1
- Produces instinctive wildness and overwhelming bloodline suppression against Saiyans. 5 39
- Requires controlled “wildness,” not simply rage, to access fully. 5
Saiyan Transformations
Gohan possesses extensive knowledge of Saiyan transformation routes and can use or demonstrate several forms. 1 8
- Super Saiyan — standard fiftyfold base-power multiplier. 4
- Super Saiyan Grades 2 and 3 — higher-output states; Grade 3 sacrifices speed for raw power. 4 8
- Super Saiyan Full Power — stabilized Super Saiyan state with controlled energy leakage. 4 8
- Legendary Super Saiyan — a green-haired transformation whose power continues to grow during combat. 5 7
- Super Saiyan 4 — achieved by compressing controlled Great Ape power into humanoid form. 15
- Super Saiyan 4 limitation — initially loses energy rapidly without a tail; this is remedied after his tail is restored through Shenron. 17 19
- Super Saiyan 4 God of Destruction — combines Super Saiyan 4 with Destruction energy. 47
Hakai Energy
Gohan uses the God of Destruction’s erasure power against enemies empowered by Miracle Power. 34 45
- Erased Raditz permanently, preventing his Miracle Power-based resurrection and evolution. 34
- Can pierce Miracle Power defenses when applied through the God of Destruction Bracer. 45
- Nullifies Kakarot’s Miracle Power beams after Gohan masters it. 48
- Becomes integrated into his Super Saiyan 4 God of Destruction form. 47 48
Ki Techniques
Gohan uses high-level ki manipulation in both direct combat and planetary defense.
- Kamehameha / Massive Kamehameha — ultimately vaporizes Golden Cell and his core. 19
- Massive Masenko — used to counter Cell’s Kamehameha; its collision destroys Earth’s atmosphere. 14
- Legendary Super Energy Shield — protects him in the vacuum of space. 17
- Massive Special Beam Supernova — condensed single-target attack capable of forming a black-hole-like destructive pull; ineffective against Kakarot’s Miracle Power barrier. 45
Combat Skill and Strategy
Gohan has the original Gohan’s memories and combat instincts alongside Wu Fan’s knowledge of Dragon Ball’s power systems. 2 1
- Taught Trunks how to channel ki into his first Super Saiyan transformation. 4
- Identifies inefficient transformations and emphasizes base-strength training. 4 21
- Reads opponents’ abilities during combat and adapts his tactics. 38 44
- Uses transformation sequences and taunts to create openings against stronger opponents. 46
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Senzu Beans — initially receives ten; uses them for healing and gives them to injured allies. 1 5 37
- Golden bracers — allow Gohan and Trunks to navigate turbulent time-space and contact Mr. Popo. 24 30
- God of Destruction Bracer — channels Destruction energy through his fist to break Miracle Power defenses. 45
- Three-Star Original Dragon Ball — recovered after defeating Lin Fan’s monstrous manifestation. 30
Relationships
- Trunks — Student, younger-brother figure, and closest partner; Gohan trains, protects, and repeatedly prioritizes him over his own safety. 2 4 42 50
- Son Goku — Father from the parallel main timeline; Goku is deeply affected by Gohan’s scars and strength, while Gohan suppresses his own emotion after seeing his long-dead father alive. 6 7
- Piccolo — Gohan’s former mentor; Gohan is visibly shaken to see him alive after more than a decade of believing him dead. 6
- Mr. Popo — Guide and logistical supporter who explains the time-space distortions, Legendary Super Saiyan rules, and Original Dragon Ball restoration process. 3 6 7 30
- Vegeta — Initially a parallel-timeline ally used to test Lin Fan; later an enemy empowered by Miracle Power on Planet Vegeta. 25 38 42
- Ultimate Cell / Golden Cell — Time-traveling Cell variant and Gohan’s major early adversary; Gohan destroys him with a Massive Kamehameha after regaining his tail. 9 19
- Kakarot — Evil Saiyan ruler empowered by Miracle Power; Gohan’s primary opponent in the Planet Vegeta timeline. 33 44 50
- Frieza — Reluctant resistance ally in the Kakarot-controlled universe; Gohan earns his cautious trust. 33 35
Story Role / Major Arcs
Despair Timeline and Hyperbolic Time Chamber
Gohan revives after his apparent death, acquires the Legendary Super Saiyan bloodline, and trains with Trunks rather than repeating the original timeline’s doomed confrontation with Androids 17 and 18. He unlocks Legendary Super Saiyan and begins pursuing Super Saiyan 4. 1 5
Parallel Cell Games and Ultimate Cell
The Time Chamber transports Gohan and Trunks into a parallel past. Gohan encounters living versions of Goku, Piccolo, and his younger self, spars with Goku, and later battles Ultimate Cell as the enemy devours alternate versions of himself to evolve. 6 8 9
Golden Cell Battle
Gohan reaches Super Saiyan 4 to match Golden Cell, but his lack of a tail causes severe energy loss. He stalls in space until Goku gathers the Dragon Balls and restores his tail, then destroys Cell completely. 15 17 19
Original Dragon Ball Restoration
Gohan and Trunks enter a timeline corrupted by the transmigrator Lin Fan. Gohan uses Vegeta as a probe, defeats Lin Fan’s Original Dragon Ball manifestation, obtains the Three-Star Ball, and prepares the world’s restoration. 25 30 31
Saiyan Empire and Kakarot
In a universe conquered by evil Kakarot, Gohan allies with Frieza’s resistance, attacks Planet Vegeta, defeats Miracle Power-enhanced Vegeta, and confronts Kakarot. Kakarot’s Miracle Power forces Gohan to develop increasingly advanced forms and ultimately attain Super Saiyan 4 God of Destruction. 33 35 42 47
