Three months after Vegeta joined, Son Goku found Kashu. "Brother, I want to go to King Kai's Planet to train," Son Goku said. "Why the sudden urge to go to King Kai's Planet?" "Because I sense that there are even stronger enemies in the universe," Son Goku said, looking at the sky. "Frieza will not give up. I need to become stronger, strong enough to protect everyone." Kashu looked at his brother's determined eyes and nodded. "Go. Snake Way is one million kilometers long; it takes ten days to fly across. King Kai is a very strict teacher, so you must learn with an open mind." "I will!" Son Goku bid farewell to Chi-Chi and his newborn son, Son Gohan, and stepped onto Snake Way. Snake Way was a thin, white road winding above the clouds, with a void of an abyss on both sides. Son Goku used flight, but there was a special force field above Snake Way that made flying exceptionally difficult. He had to run for most of the journey, only flying occasionally. Along the way, he encountered a giant demon—the guardian of Snake Way. The demon tried to swallow him, but Son Goku knocked it away with a single punch. "Sorry, I don't have time to play with you." Son Goku continued forward.
Ten days later, he finally arrived at King Kai's Planet. It was a small planetoid only a few hundred meters in diameter, covered in lush green grass with a small house in the distance. A short, fat blue man stood in front of the house, holding a staff and wearing sunglasses. "North King Kai!" Son Goku bowed. "My name is Son Goku, and I've come to study under you!" North King Kai looked Son Goku over. "A Saiyan? Your brother Kashu came here a few years ago as well." "You know my brother?" "Of course, he was my student. However, he left after only learning the Kaioken and the Spirit Bomb," North King Kai said. "What do you want to learn?" "The Kaioken! The Spirit Bomb! And every technique that can make me stronger!" Son Goku's eyes sparkled. "You can learn, but you must pass my test first." North King Kai held up a finger. "First, catch that monkey behind me." Son Goku looked behind North King Kai—a small monkey was squatting there, eating a banana. "It's that simple?" Son Goku flashed forward, reaching out to grab the monkey. The monkey vanished, reappearing on North King Kai's shoulder. "Fast, isn't it?" North King Kai said smugly. "That monkey is named Bubbles, and he is ten times faster than me. If you can't catch him, don't even think about learning my martial arts." Son Goku did not lose heart. He closed his eyes, using his ki to sense Bubbles' position. The monkey was three meters behind him, making faces at him. "Got you." Son Goku opened his eyes, his figure flashed, and his right hand precisely grabbed Bubbles by the scruff of his neck. The monkey struggled for a few moments before finally giving up.
North King Kai's smile froze. "You... how did you do that?" "I used my ki to lock onto his position and movement trajectory," Son Goku said. "No matter how fast something is, it still has to follow the laws of physics. As long as I predict correctly, I can catch it." North King Kai was silent for a few seconds, then burst into laughter. "Good lad! You've got talent! Just like your brother! I'll take you as my student!"
North King Kai began to teach Son Goku. The principle of the Kaioken is to instantly erupt the ki within the body to increase strength and speed. North King Kai could only use the five-fold Kaioken, but Son Goku kept breaking through during his training. A week later, Son Goku mastered the five-fold Kaioken. A month later, ten-fold. Three months later, twenty-fold. "You kid really are a monster," North King Kai sighed. "It took me hundreds of years to reach five-fold, and you reached twenty-fold in three months." "Maybe it's because my body is relatively strong," Son Goku said. "My brother said that a Saiyan's body evolves during battle." "Next is the Spirit Bomb," North King Kai said. "The Spirit Bomb is a technique that condenses the energy of the universe—including the energy of planets, living things, and light—into an energy sphere. It is different from your ki; it is the power of nature." Son Goku studied diligently. His heart was pure, making it easy for him to communicate with the natural energy. A month later, he was able to condense a Spirit Bomb one meter in diameter. "Not bad, not bad." North King Kai nodded with satisfaction. "You have mastered the basics. Next is actual combat." "Actual combat?" "Yes. I will use an illusion to create an opponent—your brother, Kashu." North King Kai waved his staff, and a flash of light appeared; a figure identical to Kashu stood before Son Goku. "This is an illusion created based on your memories of Kashu, possessing eighty percent of his strength," North King Kai said. "Defeat him, and you will have completed your training." Son Goku looked at the phantom, took a deep breath, and erupted into his Super Saiyan form combined with the twenty-fold Kaioken. "Brother, I won't lose!" The phantom rushed toward Son Goku, and the crimson aura collided with Son Goku's golden aura, causing the entire planet to tremble. Son Goku trained on King Kai's Planet for a full year. In the spring of AGE 755, Son Goku completed his training, bid farewell to North King Kai, and flew back to Earth. When he landed in New Vegeta City, everyone was stunned—his ki was at least ten times stronger than it had been a year ago. "Goku! You're back!" Chi-Chi ran over, holding little Gohan. "Wife, I'm back!" Son Goku took his son and kissed him on the cheek. "Gohan, did you miss Daddy?" Little Gohan was over a year old, babbling and reaching out to grab Son Goku's hair. "Kakarot, your progress surprises me." Kashu walked over, sensing Son Goku's aura. "Base combat power three million, Super Saiyan one hundred and fifty million. With the twenty-fold Kaioken, your limit is three billion?" "Three billion can only be maintained for five seconds," Son Goku said. "But five seconds is enough." "Enough," Kashu laughed. "Frieza's final form is only one hundred and twenty million; you could defeat him with a single finger." "Then shall we go defeat Frieza now?" "No rush." Kashu's expression turned serious. "Frieza already knows there are Dragon Balls on Namek. He has sent a fleet to Namek to seize the Dragon Balls and wish for immortality." "Namek? Piccolo's home?" "Yes. We must reach Namek before Frieza to protect the Namekians and the Dragon Balls." "Fine! I'm going!" "Not just you. Everyone is going."
Just as Kashu was preparing to head to Namek, Frieza's vanguard fleet arrived on Earth first. Six spherical ships landed in various parts of the Earth, each carrying ten Frieza Force soldiers and a Saibaman captain. Their mission was to test the strength of the Saiyans on Earth.
"Lord Frieza said to test them first, don't fight head-on," a Saibaman captain told his subordinates. "Withdraw immediately after collecting data." The six Saibaman captains each had a combat power between fifty thousand and one hundred thousand, far stronger than ordinary Frieza soldiers. The alarm in New Vegeta City sounded again. "Six landing sites!" Gore reported. "Each has a combat power over fifty thousand! Split up!" Kashu ordered. "Kakarot, you go to the eastern landing site. Krillin, the west. Tien Shinhan, the south. Piccolo, the north. Gore and Luo Ling, you take the northwest and northeast. I'll go to the middle one—the strongest one, with a combat power of one hundred thousand. Understood!" Everyone scattered. Kashu landed on a wasteland twenty kilometers north of the city. A Saibaman captain was lining up ten soldiers there. "You're the strongest on this planet?" The Saibaman captain scanned Kashu with his scouter; the reading showed three million five hundred thousand. His face changed. "This... this is impossible!" "Possible or not, it's not up to you to decide," Kashu said. "Did Frieza send you here to die?" "Retreat! Quick, retreat!" the Saibaman captain ordered. The soldiers scattered and fled. Kashu extended his right hand, a crimson energy ball condensing in his palm. The energy ball split into eleven smaller spheres, shooting toward the Saibaman captain and the ten soldiers. The eleven energy spheres hit their targets precisely, and Frieza's soldiers were instantly reduced to ashes. "Weak." Kashu turned and flew back to the city. The battles in other locations also ended quickly. Son Goku used a Kamehameha to blast the Saibaman captain and his ship to pieces; Krillin used a Destructo Disc to slice his enemy in two; Tien Shinhan used a Tri-Beam to blast his enemies into dust; Piccolo used a Special Beam Cannon to pierce through all six of his targets. Frieza's vanguard fleet was completely wiped out.
