Background / History

Tianyuan Academy was founded during the barbaric era by Great Emperor Tianyuan. Though only one Emperor is counted as part of its own history, many other Emperors trained there and later left their legacies within its grounds, giving the academy an unusually deep collection of Emperor Scriptures and other Emperor-grade treasures. 16 18

Unlike sects that recruit disciples to serve their own interests, the academy claims to “educate without discrimination.” Humans and other races may enroll, and a disciple’s prior affiliation or background is not treated as a barrier to admission. Graduates may return to their original forces without any obligation to serve Tianyuan Academy. 16 20

This policy has created an extensive network of former students and allies. When an Imperial Lineage with three Emperors attempted to seize the academy’s Emperor Scriptures and weapons, other Imperial Lineage forces besieged the attackers; the hostile sect was destroyed in less than a month. 17

Campus and Organization

Tianyuan Academy occupies a vast mountain complex spread across the Tianyuan Mountain Range. Its sixty-one principal peaks are allocated by disciple rank. 17

The academy’s authority structure places the Palace Master first, followed by the Old Ancestors and then the Dao Child. Old Ancestors are former Palace Masters or Supreme Elders who have entered deep seclusion beneath First Peak; they only emerge if the academy faces a life-or-death crisis. 20

The academy holds an annual trial day through which disciples, deacons, and elders may advance in rank. Handyman disciples can become outer disciples, outer disciples can become inner disciples, and so forth. 32

Facilities and Resources

• Tianyuan Stone Tablet — A talent-testing artifact refined by Great Emperor Tianyuan. Its seven light grades, from weakest to strongest, are white, yellow, green, blue, red, gold, and black. White/yellow applicants become handyman disciples; green/blue become outer disciples; red/gold become inner disciples; black-light candidates may directly become Dao Children. 17
• Secret Vault — A twelve-story pavilion on Hidden Peak. The lower eleven levels store items below Emperor grade, while the twelfth contains Emperor-grade pills, talismans, formations, puppets, Gu worms, weapons, and Scriptures. 18

Tianyuan Forbidden Land

The Tianyuan Forbidden Land was established by Great Emperor Tianyuan for the training of Dao Children. It is protected by an Emperor-grade Illusion Formation and typically takes Dao Children one to two months to explore. 29

Within it, dense spiritual energy condenses into Spirit Beasts. Defeating these non-corporeal creatures allows cultivators to absorb their pure spiritual energy. The deeper regions contain stronger Spirit Beasts and richer spiritual energy. 29

The forbidden land also contains the Tianyuan Ranking, which records the top one hundred Dao Child performances by Tianyuan Points. Each Spirit Beast personally defeated awards one point. 29

History

Gu Changge’s admission

During an annual recruitment day, Gu Changge joined the applicants at Tianyuan Academy after arriving in the Northern Region. The Tianyuan Stone Tablet emitted black light when he was tested, identifying him as a rare Dao Child-level genius. 16 17

The Palace Master personally appointed Gu Changge as a Dao Child despite Elder Liu’s concern that existing candidates from major forces would object. The Palace Master judged the other candidates—whose highest known result was red grade—as incomparable to Gu Changge. 17

After entering the secret vault, Gu Changge selected the Tianyuan Emperor Scripture, Tianyuan Imperial Hand, and Tianyuan Bewildering Formation. 18

Challenges to the Dao Child

Gu Changge’s immediate elevation provoked opposition among the core disciples, many of whom were Dao Children, Holy Sons, or heirs from major Northern Region forces. Huo Yuzhe, the heir of the Longevity Huo Family, arranged an early test of Gu Changge’s strength and later challenged him directly. 19 23

Gu Changge defeated Huo Yuzhe, then overcame the top-ranked core disciples Xu Ningbo and Ji Haowei. After these confrontations, the academy’s disciples began addressing him as “Dao Child Senior Brother.” 24 25

Forbidden Land training

As part of his Dao Child training, Gu Changge entered the Tianyuan Forbidden Land. In one month, he advanced from the sixth to the eighth level of the Tendon Lengthening Realm through repeated battles against Spirit Beasts. 29

Northern Region Martial Arts Tournament

The Palace Master selected Gu Changge to represent Tianyuan Academy in the Northern Region Martial Arts Tournament and authorized him to choose nine core disciples to accompany him. 34 36

All ten academy representatives won their first-round duels. Gu Changge’s performance ultimately secured first place in the tournament’s faction rankings for Tianyuan Academy. 36 40
