He was a monster who had once shone brilliantly in the comics, Darkseid's personally adopted foster son.
In name, as Darkseid's fourth son, Dark Superman was qualified to inherit Apocalypse, and theoretically, he was the finest candidate.
The eldest son, Kalibak, the crown prince of Apocalypse, had failed to produce any particularly convincing achievements over the years, and his personal strength was not especially outstanding either, but he was still decent enough.
The second child, Grail, had already joined with Darkwalker and transformed into the Female Death God, firmly controlled by Donnie.
The youngest son, Orion, had been so thoroughly misled by Highfather that he had lost all sense of direction, his mind scrubbed clean.
Finally, there was Dark Superman. He had ambition, strength, and courage. Though his origins were far humbler than those of Darkseid's three biological children and he was merely a multiversal being, he lacked nothing else.

Dark Superman was quite the formidable figure, but unfortunately, Darkseid had brought him out to use as a bundle of explosives.
If he survived this without dying, there might be a turning point. He might challenge Kalibak's position and perhaps even have a chance to inherit Apocalypse—after Darkseid died, of course. But if he failed to endure it, then he would simply die and be done with it.
This convergence of the two great planets and their once-a-century war was destined to be incredibly spectacular. Donnie was more than happy to go watch the excitement.
