Background / History

Darkseid was originally Uxas, the younger son of Yuga Khan. He manipulated his compassionate elder brother, Drax, into attempting to fuse with the Omega Effect, then ambushed and decapitated him at the critical moment. The artifact altered Uxas into a gray, stone-skinned being, after which he took the name Darkseid. He later allied with Steppenwolf, helped precipitate war with New Genesis, murdered his mother Hegra, and claimed Apocalypse's throne. 1001

After Yuga Khan became trapped on the Source Wall, Darkseid ruled Apocalypse in his father's absence. He turned the planet into a colossal war fortress, manufacturing Parademons and dispatching extermination forces through dimensional portals across the Multiverse. 484

Ancient Doomsday's arrival on Apocalypse undermined Darkseid's image of invincibility. Doomsday initially sent him flying, adapted to his attacks and Omega Beams, and ultimately defeated him. The encounter later drove Darkseid to obtain Doomsday technology and create a Doomsday army for the war against New Genesis. 484 485 993 994

Darkseid obsessively pursued the Anti-Life Equation because of its hidden resonance with the Omega Effect. When Mobius acquired the Equation, Darkseid personally left Apocalypse and fought him across the Multiverse; their conflict destroyed numerous universes. Darkseid deployed Darkwalker against Mobius, but Darkwalker killed one of Darkseid's original forms and shattered his Divine Spark. 733 935 936 940

He survived repeated deaths and defeats through the Omega Effect, fragmented Source, clones, and rebirth plans. Dark Superman eventually killed Darkseid's complete form and consumed his Source, but Darkseid later reformed under Yuga Khan's supervision. 1003 1023

Following the Great Darkness war, Darkseid and his rebuilt planet Sepulchre were left badly weakened. He considers caution superior to reckless power, waited for Mobius to become entangled with the Anti-Life Equation before moving against him, and maintained contingencies involving clones, a replacement Apocalypse, and fragmented Divine Spark. 940 1004

Despite his tyrannical confidence, Darkseid is deeply afraid of Yuga Khan. When confronted by his father, he becomes submissive and endures repeated mutilation rather than risk provoking him further. 947 1023
