The branch's senior Green-Clad Officers are not required to attend routine roll call. After his promotion, Chen Jing nevertheless reported early and used his duty-office courtyard for martial practice before acquiring subordinates. 144

Jin City Commandery

Jin City Six Gates is a substantially larger commandery-level organization led by Bronze-Badge Captain Han Tongxiao. Below the Bronze-Badge level are more than a dozen Purple-Clad Officers and intelligence agents, as well as numerous Green-Clad and Brown-Clad officers. 195

The commandery can mobilize officers and constables from its subordinate local branches. Its Purple-Clad Officers are generally stronger than their county counterparts, with many having completed the Primary Meridians and begun cultivating the Eight Extraordinary Meridians. 195

History

Shuang'an Town Bandit Suppression

Nine Six Gates constables led by Green-Clad Officer Li Dingfang arrived in Shuang'an Town amid a roaming-bandit crisis. Wearing bamboo hats and dark cloaks, they entered through a route believed to be watched by bandits without alerting anyone. 12

Li Dingfang's team had mapped the positions and defenses of roughly two hundred bandits within a day. They then joined forty militia members in a night raid, with the nine constables forming the spearhead of the assault. 13

During the attack, Li Dingfang killed a sentry immediately upon entering the camp, and the remaining constables drew their blades in unison to lead the assault. 14

Green Mountain City Investigations

In Green Mountain City, Six Gates investigated wanted criminals, arson, and Clear Wind Stronghold infiltration. Duan Mu handled Chen Jing's case after he killed two wanted men, formally recording the incident and confirming that rewards applied under Six Gates rules. 42

The organization uncovered Zhou Yunhan as a Clear Wind Stronghold insider who had used his position at White Horse Pharmacy to provide the stronghold with medicine, silver, and intelligence. 47

Li Dingfang subsequently ordered a full investigation of White Horse Pharmacy, including its account books, warehouses, correspondence, and personnel, while requiring the Bai family to cooperate. 48

Li Dingfang promised official rewards to Chen Jing and Cheng Qingshi for disrupting the stronghold's scheme, but warned Chen Jing to report future intelligence rather than act independently. The subsequent investigation intensified scrutiny of the Bai Family and Zhou Yunhan, and the two disciples received bounty money for the Du brothers and a reduced commendation for foiling the plot. 48 50

Recruitment of Chen Jing

Li Dingfang recruited Chen Jing after recognizing his martial talent, sharp judgment, and ruthlessness. He warned that such qualities required restraint, or Chen Jing could become like the bandits he fought. 67

The recruitment followed Chen Jing and Liu Yunfei's discovery of Clear Wind Stronghold spy Sun Ping. Li Dingfang had already submitted recruitment documents to Jin City after Chen Jing won the Green Mountain Martial Tournament; once approval arrived, he summoned Chen Jing to report for duty. 67 69

Chen Jing chose to become a Wind-Catching Scout rather than an ordinary constable. He began as an unranked Brown-Clad officer and received an assignment to investigate a missing scout and Clear Wind Stronghold activity in River Temple Village. 69 70

After completing missions against Clear Wind Stronghold agents and reporting the leakage of military crossbows, Chen Jing was promoted to Ninth-Rank Secret Agent. 101 102

War Against Clear Wind Stronghold

Six Gates investigated Clear Wind Stronghold's network of spies, hidden outposts, military equipment, and cooperating factions. The organization discovered evidence that Shangchuan Sect had been secretly transporting medicinal herbs to the stronghold. 104 119

Before its eventual destruction, Clear Wind Stronghold had repeatedly evaded Six Gates searches and encirclement campaigns. This distinguished it from other mountain strongholds around Green Mountain City, which Six Gates and government troops had generally arrested or eliminated within a year of their establishment. 22 104

The campaign also exposed infiltration within Six Gates itself. Lu Xiucheng admitted that he had served as a stronghold insider after his parent was taken hostage. Six Gates later conducted a secret search for an internal traitor while Li Dingfang temporarily withheld further assignments from Chen Jing to let his killing intent settle. 82 97

After Clear Wind Stronghold learned Chen Jing's identity and ordered his assassination through its contacts in the city, the confidentiality of secret-agent records became a central investigative concern. Xu Anyuan was eventually captured and interrogated, revealing additional moles in the city yamen and government troops. Yin Zhengping rewarded Chen Jing for exposing the Six Gates mole with a Qi-Condensing Pill and the Star-Chasing Moon-Catching Steps movement art. 104 107 110

Chen Jing subsequently led an operation against the Pine Forest Village outpost. During the fighting, he killed Coiled Dragon Staff and Armored Golden Blade, assisted Hu Sanniang and other secret agents, and responded to a distress whistle to rescue Jiang Xun, Zhao Yi, and the injured Zhang Kai from Wan Haigui. The outpost's destruction was later credited as an operation completed without a casualty among Chen Jing's team. 127 128 144

An early attempt by Yin Zhengping, Li Dingfang, Duan Mu, and selected experts to infiltrate Clear Wind Stronghold and assassinate its chief failed, leaving Li Dingfang and Duan Mu injured and forcing the organization to seek reinforcements from Jin City Commandery. 131

Xu Anyuan's interrogation had supplied the stronghold's location on Ox-Crouching Mountain. Yin Zhengping selected trusted experts for the infiltration without informing Chen Jing, but the operation suffered heavy casualties. 131

Later, Yin Zijing led Six Gates officers and government troops in a coordinated assault on Ox-Crouching Mountain. Eight hundred armored elites surrounded the mountain while the Six Gates contingent infiltrated the stronghold and struck at its leadership. 145 147

Yin Zijing defeated the Chief of Clear Wind Stronghold with a single sword stroke, triggering the bandits' collapse. 148 149

Following the collapse, Li Dingfang ordered the officers to pursue the fleeing bandits. Six Gates and government troops then searched the stronghold, recorded the dead, and gathered captured weapons while eliminating the remaining resistance. 149 154

The organization captured Shang Youyan alive and paraded the captured stronghold members through Green Mountain City following the victory. Yin Zijing distributed rewards to the officers who had distinguished themselves during the campaign. 155

Shangchuan Sect Arrests

After Clear Wind Stronghold's destruction and the capture of Shang Youyan, Six Gates moved against Shangchuan Sect for its collusion with the bandits. Chen Jing led four Blue-Clad Officers and one hundred Clove-Clad Constables to the sect. 162

Chen Jing presented an arrest warrant for Sect Master Luo Congnan and warned that resistance would be treated as rebellion against the imperial court. When sect disciples and enforcement elders intervened, he defeated them and carried Luo Congnan away under arrest. 163 165

Although Luo Congnan and the elders involved in the collusion were executed, Shangchuan Sect itself remained in operation. The Ba Alliance selected a replacement sect master, reflecting a political compromise between Six Gates and the alliance. 177

North City Purge

Six Gates later mobilized nearly its full force to arrest officials and noble families implicated in the Clear Wind Stronghold case. Chen Jing's forty-man unit participated in the night operation, beginning with the residence of County Magistrate Song. 173

Imperial Prison Security Incident

While most available officers were deployed to respond to an emergency at Flower Moon Street, four former Clear Wind Stronghold members infiltrated the Six Gates compound and broke into the Imperial Prison. They cut through the prison's refined-iron lock using the Black Gold Blade and descended to the second underground level. 169

The intruders believed that Shang Youyan was imprisoned there, but Chen Jing had disguised himself as the captive and used the apparent assassination opportunity as a trap. He killed or incapacitated the attackers during the ensuing close-quarters battle. 169 170

Cui Xingkong Pursuit

Six Gates participated in the pursuit of Cui Xingkong after he abducted a Liu family young lady. Multiple officer teams established a three-sided encirclement, but Cui Xingkong broke through after defeating several officers and evading the Green-Clad Officer known as Skyward Staff. 183

The pursuing Purple-Clad Officer had coordinated with secret agents and familiar bounty hunters before the operation, but initially failed to recognize Chen Jing, whose movement retained traces of the Six Gates' Star-Chasing Moon-Catching Steps. Chen Jing subsequently captured Cui Xingkong and returned with the rescued Liu Yingying, notifying the local Six Gates office by messenger hawk before reaching the city. 184 187

Jin City Service

After arriving in Jin City as a Purple-Clad Officer, Chen Jing was assigned to the Anti-Theft Bureau under Wei Huai. He was made responsible for East Market security, with the Green-Clad Officers assigned to the district reporting to him. 197

Six Gates later investigated the hijacking of an ore ship and detained Lu Yunqiao, though prolonged Imperial Prison interrogation failed to establish whether the Fanyun Fortress remnants had acted alone or under outside direction. 222

Chen Jing and Ji Lin attended Chu Cangyuan's birthday banquet as Six Gates representatives, demonstrating the organization's official standing in Jin City's complex network of martial, commercial, and political forces. 222

Wei Huai selected Ji Lin because of his close ties to the Ba Alliance, while Chen Jing attended because the unresolved ore-ship case involved the Great River Gang. The influx of armed martial artists for the banquet sharply increased the organization's patrol burden. 222

Chen Jing also pursued Feng Haishan and Ye Qingqing to Evergreen Town, where the pair were living under assumed names. Their confrontation became a further lead in the wider investigation, particularly because Feng Haishan used a destructive gunpowder weapon whose direct evidence was subsequently lost. 237 249

Baili Sword Manor Investigation

Six Gates surrounded Azure Source Mountain with government troops and entered Baili Sword Manor to investigate Baili Xinming's suspected involvement in a conspiracy and attempted cover-up. Chen Jing led the operation, which secured the manor lord, elders, and direct disciples for questioning. 245 247 249

Although interrogation established that Baili Sword Manor was not responsible for the underlying conspiracy, Han Tongxiao ordered the elders involved in obstructing law enforcement detained for dereliction of supervisory duty. Six Gates publicly described the manor's involvement as assistance with an investigation, preserving a measure of its dignity. 249

The elders' detention was set at six months, with Supreme Elders Lian Xing and Chang Song singled out for leading attempts to obstruct the investigation. Thousand Mechanisms Palace sent Mo Tingzheng to inquire into the incident, and Han Tongxiao received him without further escalation. 249

Han Tongxiao obtained an exceptional reward of twenty Qi-Condensing Pills for Chen Jing and promised access to further armory instruction after he achieved Six-Meridian Mastery. Chen Jing reached that threshold in twenty days and visited Manager Wang for a martial assessment. 249 251

Thousand Mechanisms Palace Investigation

Following the explosion of a passenger ship carrying people from Thousand Mechanisms Palace, Six Gates fought off assassins and began an independent investigation rather than permitting Thousand Mechanisms Palace to control the evidence. Chen Jing, Wei Huai, and Wang Yan survived the attack, while Chen Jing killed eleven assailants. 260

The investigation extended to Cloudpeak Mountain, where Six Gates pressed Thousand Mechanisms Palace over the passenger-ship explosion, gunpowder weapons, and the wider conspiracy involving the Ba Alliance. 263 264

After finding evidence that the Mo Family had privately manufactured, transported, and stored Thunderclap Bombs, Chen Jing invoked Yin Zijing's Bronze-Badge token to demand that Mo Tianwen, implicated Mo Family descendants, and associated Thousand Mechanisms Palace disciples accompany him to Six Gates. 269

During the return journey, Wind and Snow Pavilion assassins attacked the Six Gates party at an inn in Yulin Town. Tang Mingli assisted the defense, while Ji Lin and Meng Sui'an led constables against the attackers. Chen Jing helped repel the assault, interrogated Xiao Jinshen and Xiao Yuyan about their connections to the pavilion, and ordered the position fortified while requesting commandery reinforcements. 277 279 281

Chen Jing and Yin Zijing later considered the attackers' withdrawal suspicious: even after suffering losses, the pavilion might have hoped to seize the Thunderclap Bombs after they entered Six Gates custody. This strengthened their suspicion that the organization contained a mole. 281

Yang Family Rebellion

Six Gates discovered that the Yang Family had cultivated extensive influence inside the Anti-Theft Bureau, especially within its Third and Fourth Divisions, and that plans concerning the Thunderclap Bombs had leaked through these internal connections. 284

Rebel Six Gates officers ambushed Chen Jing, including a Green-Clad Officer and four Purple-Clad Officers led in part by Ji Lin. Chen Jing killed the Green-Clad Officer and one Purple-Clad Officer, while Ji Lin's betrayal was exposed during the confrontation. 285

After the internal rebels were defeated, Six Gates moved to surround the Commandery Prince's Residence. Its elites overcame the residence's personal guards, guest elders, and Wind and Snow Pavilion assassins, who were unable to withstand the organization's crossbow fire and senior officers. 288

Han Tongxiao and Wei Huai led the subsequent raid, arresting Commandery Prince Yang Qing and his wife and uncovering evidence of bandit recruitment, weapons stockpiling, and corruption. Provincial authorities later assumed custody of Yang Qing and the Thunderclap Bombs for transfer to the capital. 290

Han Tongxiao resisted pressure from officials connected to the Yang Family by relying on the accumulated evidence and witnesses. Yang Qing disclosed the location of Wind and Snow Pavilion's headquarters near Jin City, but the site had already been abandoned. 290

Underworld Mansion Investigation

During the Gu-insect crisis at Longqiu Village in the Great Desert, Silver-Badge Officer Qin Yanxing identified himself as a Six Gates officer and explained that the Underworld Mansion was a major demonic organization opposed by the imperial court and righteous sects. 339

Qin Yanxing helped free villagers controlled by Granny Gu-Heart's Gu Insects, then traveled with the Red Sand Guards and bounty hunters toward Red Sand Town to warn the Shi Household and investigate the Underworld Mansion's possible interest in Qu Feiguang's treasure map. 339

Qin Yanxing defeated Granny Gu-Heart's Ebony Staff but allowed her to escape rather than injure the villagers she used as shields. Because the mother Gu survived, Qin, Chen Jing, Zang Keshan, and the Blade-Catchers spent the night individually purging or killing the child Gu. Qin suspected that obtaining Qu Feiguang's treasure could strengthen the Underworld Mansion and support rebellion. Chen Jing cooperated while concealing his own identity and private interest in the treasure. 339

Qin later joined the allied campaign against the horse bandits occupying Laijin Town, alongside the Grand Commandant's Residence and the Five Great Lineages. During the ensuing battle, the Fire-Worship Venerable prevented Blood River Ghost Envoy from attacking Qin, prompting the Ghost Envoy to withdraw when he recognized that Qin was protected. 344 348

By the time Zhang Tiantu's party reached Yueya Town for the treasure expedition, Qin was injured and kept under the Grand Commandant's supervision. Zhang concealed his temporary alliance with the Underworld Mansion because Qin would oppose it. Qin accompanied the party toward the treasure site, but his compromised position limited his ability to act independently against the demonic organization. 374

Wonderful Sound House Operation

A Six Gates party led by Purple-Clad Officers Wang Xiong and Zhao You entered Wonderful Sound House and completely blocked its entrance.
