Geography & Layout

Green Mountain City is vastly larger than Shuang'an Town, enclosed by long blue-gray walls, battlements, watch patrols, banners, and imposing gate towers. Chen Jing enters through its southern gate after surviving the Clear Wind Stronghold ambush. 26

• North City — The administrative and elite district, containing the Six Gates command office, county yamen, and residences of noble and influential families. Patrols and defenses here are much denser than in the south. 42

History

Chen Jing travels to Green Mountain City with Wang Chong to enter a martial hall, reaching the city after escaping Clear Wind Stronghold's attack on a White Horse Pharmacy caravan. His arrival establishes the city as the center of his martial training and later Six Gates career. 21 22 26

The city hosts the Green Mountain Martial Tournament, where Chen Jing takes first place. His victory draws recruitment offers from prominent local families, trading firms, and transport interests, though he refuses them. 53 64

Clear Wind Stronghold becomes Green Mountain City's central internal threat. The bandits maintain infiltrators within Six Gates, the yamen, government troops, and local business networks; the discovery of military crossbows in bandit hands exposes a serious breach in the city's control of armaments. Although the stronghold was initially rumored to lie deep in Little Green Mountain, its actual fortress is eventually identified in the maze-like terrain of Ox-Crouching Mountain west of the city. 97 101 110 146

The North City noble families possess extensive influence over the city's economic life, including grain shops, cloth stores, medicine shops, and money houses. Investigations ultimately uncover evidence that some noble families colluded with Clear Wind Stronghold through medicinal-herb trade and other support. 123 130

After Yin Zijing's forces destroy Clear Wind Stronghold, prisoners are paraded through Green Mountain City to public acclaim. The campaign's aftermath also reveals hostages who had been used to coerce city informants into serving the bandits. 154 155

Six Gates subsequently turns against Shangchuan Sect for its financial and material support of Clear Wind Stronghold. Chen Jing leads the arrest operation against the sect, captures Sect Master Luo Congnan, and escorts him back to Green Mountain City for imprisonment alongside other implicated sect members. 162 163 166

During the Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival, coordinated fires engulf Flower Moon Street. Six Gates mobilizes to fight the blaze, treat casualties, and restore order. 168 Subsequent investigations expose County Magistrate Song Zhuoqun as the mastermind behind Clear Wind Stronghold; a new magistrate later takes office. 172 177

The investigations also bring arrests against the Wang, Xu, Han, and Yang families of North City, whose members are connected to the stronghold's network. Though the implicated branches suffer severe losses, the city's century-old great families are not entirely destroyed. 172 175 176

Following the stronghold's destruction and the purge of implicated figures, the city experiences several months with no major cases and a marked reduction in street crime. 177 Chen Jing eventually completes his handover and departs for Jin City after earning promotion to Purple-Clad Officer. 196 197
