Background / History

Sha Lifeng was a trusted associate of Qu Feiguang and a remnant of Flying Sand Fortress. Unlike the fortress’s raiders, he specialized in lightness kung fu, mechanisms, tomb robbing, and locating buried treasure. Qu Feiguang consulted him while constructing his hidden treasure vault. When Flying Sand Fortress was destroyed, Sha used his movement skills to steal away a fragment of Qu Feiguang’s treasure map and fled. 321

Sha spent roughly ten years in the Central Plains before returning to the Great Desert after hearing renewed rumors about Qu Feiguang’s treasure. He attempted to cooperate with Wang Zhaoyi of the Black Wind Bandits, but Wang poisoned him and tried to seize his map fragment. Sha escaped after suffering a Xiantian-level palm strike, eventually being driven into Old Bear Ridge. 321

Chen Jing found Sha surrounded by the Black Wind Bandits and killed nearly all of them before subduing him. Sha offered to lead Chen to the hidden map fragment in exchange for his life. The fragment was buried beneath a tree in a Shi Household courtyard in Red Sand Town. 320 321

After the encounter, Chen forced Sha to swallow Heartbreak Death Powder and supplied only a temporary antidote. He ordered Sha to pose as his maternal uncle, “Uncle Feng,” while Chen adopted the name “Little Jing.” 323

Sha later helped Chen enter Red Sand Town under the protection of the Shi Household’s First Madam. Chen worked in the back kitchen as a butcher, while Sha posed as a traveling physician and resumed his relationship with the First Madam. Sha used her influence to obtain medicinal ingredients for Chen’s cultivation. 332 333

During the Great Desert treasure conflict, Sha served as Chen’s scout, informant, guide, and map specialist. Although he repeatedly wished to withdraw from dangerous situations, he continued assisting Chen through the battles surrounding Laijin Town, Sanhe Town, the Moon-Congealing Grass shipment, and Qu Feiguang’s treasure. 344 353 356 361

Appearance

Sha Lifeng is tall and well-built, with rough skin, sharply defined features, and a wild, unruly air. Despite his slovenly appearance, Chen Jing considers him notably attractive to women. 321

  • Usually appears disheveled or dressed as a wandering physician, thief, or desert traveler.
  • Uses disguises and false identities easily.
  • Carried twin sabers during the Great Desert operations. 320 344
  • Later posed as Chen Jing’s maternal uncle, “Uncle Feng.” 323

Personality

Sha Lifeng is greedy, evasive, talkative, and highly opportunistic. He survives through caution, escape, deception, and bargaining rather than loyalty or direct confrontation. When Chen first defeats him, Sha immediately offers the location of the treasure map in exchange for his life. 320

He is also shameless and romantically irresponsible, repeatedly using relationships with wealthy or influential women for protection, lodging, information, and resources. His relationship with the Shi Household’s First Madam provides both a refuge in Red Sand Town and medicinal supplies for Chen. 321 332 333

Despite his cowardice and self-interest, Sha is useful and dependable when given a clear role. He protects Chen’s identity, gathers intelligence, preserves the treasure-map fragment, and carries the Moon-Congealing Grass away from the battlefield. He becomes increasingly wary of danger but continues following Chen because of the poison binding them together. 323 356 362 368

Abilities & Skills

Lightness Kung Fu

Sha Lifeng’s defining skill is his exceptional lightness kung fu. He is renowned in the Great Desert as being faster than a galloping horse and once used his movement to steal a treasure-map fragment from numerous Flying Sand Fortress members. 320 321

  • Can cross more than ten zhang almost instantly when uninjured. 320
  • Escaped Wang Zhaoyi’s attempt to kill him despite suffering a Xiantian palm strike. 321
  • Uses movement skill for escape, theft, scouting, and infiltration.
  • Helped Chen spread rumors and move through contested areas without attracting attention. 371
  • His performance is severely reduced by serious injuries; after Wang Zhaoyi’s attack, he could use only around thirty percent of his internal energy. 323

Mechanisms and Treasure Hunting

Sha specialized in mechanisms, tomb robbery, and treasure vaults rather than ordinary banditry. Qu Feiguang consulted him about the construction of the hidden treasure vault, making him one of the few people with practical knowledge of the site. 321

  • Understands tomb mechanisms and hidden vaults.
  • Can interpret and reconstruct portions of Qu Feiguang’s treasure map.
  • Remembers routes, courtyards, buildings, and guarded estates with exceptional accuracy.
  • Surveyed the Golden Family estate and helped Chen plan his route to Flame-Severing Venerable’s residence. 369

Intelligence Gathering

Sha’s experience in the martial world and his willingness to use pleasure houses, romantic connections, and false identities make him an effective informant.

  • Gathered information in Sanhe Town through his relationship with a pleasure-house proprietress. 356 368
  • Tracked the Golden Family’s shipment of Moon-Congealing Grass. 357
  • Reported on the movements of the Grand Commandant’s Residence, Fire-Worship Sect, and other factions.
  • Used his knowledge of the Shi Household to secure Chen’s employment and concealment. 332 333

Survival and Deception

Sha relies on quick bargaining and improvisation to survive stronger opponents.

  • Concealed Chen’s identity by claiming that Chen was his mute nephew. 324
  • Maintained false identities as a traveling physician and Chen’s maternal uncle.
  • Bargained with Chen after being captured and with Wang Zhaoyi after being poisoned.
  • Continues cooperating with Chen because Heartbreak Death Powder remains a threat until he receives an antidote. 323 368

Combat Ability

Sha is capable of using twin sabers and possesses substantial internal cultivation, but he is not presented as a dominant frontline fighter. He is stuck at the Eight-Meridian stage and has no apparent hope of reaching Xiantian. 320 333

  • Survived a Xiantian attack from Wang Zhaoyi, though it left him badly injured. 321
  • Can fight when necessary but prefers escape and negotiation.
  • His movement skill is considerably more valuable than his direct combat strength.
  • His injuries and fear of Xiantian experts make prolonged battles dangerous for him. 323 344

Equipment / Items

  • Twin sabers — His usual weapons during the Great Desert journey. 320 344
  • Qu Feiguang’s treasure-map fragment — Stolen from the remnants of Flying Sand Fortress and later buried in Red Sand Town. 321 332
  • Heartbreak Death Powder — Forced on him by Chen Jing as a means of control; he receives temporary and later more complete antidote treatment. 323 368
  • False identities and disguises — Includes the identities of “Uncle Feng” and a traveling physician. 323 332

Relationships

  • Chen Jing — Captor, coercive ally, and traveling companion. Chen relies on Sha’s speed, intelligence, and knowledge of Qu Feiguang’s treasure, while controlling him with Heartbreak Death Powder 320 323 371.
  • Qu Feiguang — Former leader and trusted associate. Sha assisted with the construction of Qu’s hidden treasure vault 321.
  • Wang Zhaoyi — Former prospective partner in the search for the treasure. Wang betrayed, poisoned, and injured Sha while attempting to take his map fragment 321.
  • First Madam of the Shi Household — Sha’s lover and protector in Red Sand Town. Her influence gave him shelter and access to medicinal ingredients 332 333.
  • Shi Mohong — Husband of the First Madam and head of the Shi Household. Sha’s affair with his wife took place without his knowledge 321 332.
  • Black Whirlwind — Chen Jing’s horse and part of Sha’s traveling party. Sha rode the horse during their escape from Red Sand Town and the Great Desert conflicts 323 326 361.
