"Before you go to sleep, check around the foot of your bed to make sure no mischievous Gnomes have snuck in. There probably aren't any at Hogwarts, but it never hurts to be careful. They like warm places."
"Dad, you need to be careful when you're writing at night too. If you stay up working too late, Wrackspurts will sneak into your quill, and then they'll eat all your inspiration!"
"I know! Dad hasn't written at night in ages. And you can't stay up too late either, understand?"
On Platform 9 3/4, Xenophilius Lovegood earnestly lectured Luna.
Although Luna had heard these reminders countless times, she still listened with great care, nodding lightly now and then and reminding Xenophilius to get enough rest too.
"This winter seems especially cold. When you get back to Hogwarts, be sure to watch out for the wind there. It gets into everywhere more easily than Wrackspurts do..."
"I will, Dad." Luna nodded, then added seriously, "And when you're writing at night, remember to shut the windows properly."
"Otherwise, Blibbering Humdingers will come in on the wind and sneeze beside you, muddling your thoughts."
"Of course!" Xenophilius smiled confidently. "As long as I brew a steaming pot of Gurdyroot Tea!"
"The Blibbering Humdingers will run away on their own. This method has always worked—I do it every time!"
"Dad..." Luna tilted her head slightly, a flicker of understanding in her eyes. "Didn't you just say you didn't stay up late?"
"Er..." Xenophilius Lovegood's smile froze as his fingers unconsciously twisted the scarf around his neck.
He blinked and hurriedly changed the subject. "Right! I prepared two extra pairs of thick wool socks for you..."
"They have rainbow Dirigible Plums on them..." he said, gesturing as he spoke. "If your feet get cold when you
