Background / History

Sasuke began as a disciplined Ninja Academy student who answered Iruka’s question about the first rule of a ninja without hesitation: “absolute obedience to orders.” He kept to himself and left class alone while Sakura and other girls followed after him. 1

During a practical-combat lesson, Sasuke faced Duanmu. He initially treated Duanmu with contempt, using the Clone Technique and close-quarters chakra attacks, but Duanmu’s evasions and improvised Lion Combo forced Sasuke to recognize him as a rival. 3

Before the Uchiha massacre, Sasuke trained with his older brother Itachi and showed a markedly softer, obedient side around him. As tensions within the Uchiha clan escalated, he became increasingly withdrawn, trained obsessively, and appeared to be venting his distress through physical exertion. 5 6

Sasuke discovered his parents murdered in the Uchiha compound and witnessed Itachi at the scene. Itachi subjected him to Tsukuyomi and forced him to relive the clan’s destruction, leaving Sasuke consumed by hatred and determined to kill his brother. 14

After graduating, he was assigned to the unusually large Team 7 alongside Naruto, Sakura, and Duanmu under Kakashi Hatake. Though he initially regarded his teammates as distractions from revenge, repeated missions and battles gradually forced him to cooperate with them. 19 23 24

Appearance

Sasuke is a dark-haired boy with black bangs that partly cover his eyes. His sharply defined jaw and restrained, cold presentation contribute to his unapproachable demeanor. 1

Personality

Sasuke is intensely disciplined, competitive, and emotionally reserved. Even as an Academy student, he answered questions efficiently and treated ordinary interactions as beneath his attention. His loss to Duanmu wounded his pride, but it also replaced his contempt with a sharper drive to improve. 1 3

The Uchiha massacre transformed his goal into revenge. He fixates on gaining power to kill Itachi, dismissing companionship and ordinary team concerns as irrelevant. His grief manifests as silence, isolation, relentless training, and impatience with anything that does not directly advance his strength. 14 19 24

Despite this fixation, Sasuke repeatedly acts to protect others. He takes a hit from Kakashi to shield Duanmu during the bell test, pushes Naruto away from Haku’s needles, and later shields Naruto again at the cost of serious injuries.
