The food Diya had brought was already gone. As they pressed onward, wave after wave of roars rang out without pause, echoing through the cave.

They exchanged a glance.

"Master, there are so many Zombies," Flavia said softly.

"That's right. Corpsefire might be in there. Come on, be careful," Diya said, holding up his torch as he advanced cautiously. Zombies were not like Fallen, who would build a bonfire. Diya could only hear the Zombies' voices, unable to see them—at least, not until he got closer.

The roars grew denser, rising and falling one after another. Within this gloomy, sinister cave, they sounded especially terrifying. Zombies were undead monsters, their entire bodies radiating deathly energy that sent chills through one's heart.

The living aura around Diya and Flavia was far too obvious. Though Diya now understood that, he had no way to solve it. Before they had even fully approached the Zombies, the Zombies discovered Diya first.

Diya thrust the torch into a pile of rocks beside him to secure it, then gripped his sword in both hands and waited for the Zombies to approach. Relying on her hearing and instincts, Flavia fired several arrows into the darkness. Dull puffs came drifting back, accompanied by the Zombies' furious roars.

After a while, vague silhouettes came swaying out of the darkness. The Zombies gradually entered Diya and Flavia's sight, making them suck in a sharp breath. More than thirty Zombies came surging forward one after another.

Diya and Flavia immediately found themselves in a thorny situation. Zombies moved very slowly, much slower than ordinary people, but their defenses were extremely high, surpassing those of monsters of the same rank.
