"Raditz, what the hell did you say to your little brother to push him this far?" Gou Kong asked irritably, his tone full of impatience.
"Huh? What's... what's so hard to understand?" Raditz scratched the back of his head, looking innocent. "I just invited Kakarot to join us. Told him we're real brothers. Then this kid's brain short-circuited, and he refused no matter what, insisting he was some Earthling, even telling me to hurry up and get lost. He's my only blood brother. How could I bring myself to hurt him..."
"No, I'm asking how exactly you explained it." A vein throbbed at Gou Kong's temple. "Did you ever hear anything about Kakarot from Bardock or Gine?"
"My dad and my mom?" Raditz froze for a second, his eyes drifting. "That was stale old crap from who knows how many years ago. How would I remember? Was any of it important?"
Looking at Raditz's brainless, one-screw-loose expression, Gou Kong was so angry he nearly keeled over on the spot. He raised a hand to cover his forehead and shook his head hard.
Fuck!
Just as expected!
This guy had definitely gotten Gine's message, not taken it seriously at all, and then turned around and forgotten it completely!
Then, relying on that tiny bit of vague memory in his head, he had charged straight up to Kakarot like an absolute idiot, saying whatever came to mind with no regard for the situation or logic whatsoever!
From Kakarot's point of view, what the hell was that supposed to be?
An alien invader with a tail had suddenly dropped out of the sky and, without another word, tried to drag him into joining up for genocide. Who could understand that?
Not to mention this kid had injured his head when he was little and lost all his memories. Even if Raditz had been perfectly logical, he might not have been able to take it in, much less when this bastard spoke without using his brain at all!
"Enough. Don't ask. Long story short," Gou Kong took a deep breath, pointed at Raditz, and spoke in a tone that brooked no argument. "You. Go over there and apologize to those two."
"Hah?"
Raditz's eyes instantly went wide, as if he had just heard the biggest joke of the year, his face clearly saying, "Are you fucking kidding me?"
What?
Apologize?
My battle power's over a thousand. It wouldn't be too much to make those two kneel and beg for mercy, and now you want me to apologize?
"I told you to apologize. Did you hear me?" Gou Kong frowned, and his aura instantly pressed down on him. "This whole mess was caused by that cheap mouth of yours. Clean up your own damn mess. Go over there, be sincere, apologize, then come back. I'll handle the rest. Don't give me that look like you just ate shit. You screwed this up, so shouldn't you apologize? Or is that pathetic little pride of yours more important than your own little brother's life?"
"Bro! No, but..." Raditz's face went red with panic, and he still tried to struggle.
"What else? You still want to keep fighting?" Gou Kong gave a cold laugh, his gaze sharp as a knife. "Look at those two. Do they have even one breath left in them? Keep fighting and the result is certain death. Weigh it yourself—how big is the gap between your battle power and mine? Didn't you just say Kakarot was your only blood brother? So are you planning to kill him with your own hands now?"
"Huff..."
Gou Kong's barrage of questions left Raditz speechless, his heavy breathing especially clear in the silent air.
He lowered his head, his clenched fists trembling from the force he put into them. Clearly, he was locked in a fierce struggle inside.
Gou Kong knew it perfectly well.
This guy was definitely unwilling ten thousand times over right now.
Making an arrogant Saiyan elite like him lower his head and apologize was practically more painful than killing him.
And this dumbass was most likely still thinking he had done nothing wrong, so why should he apologize?
But there was no helping it. At a time like this, his pride could get stuffed down his damn pants!
If they didn't clear up the misunderstanding, Raditz had to lower his head first.
Otherwise, given the piss-poor logic of the original story, today's situation would end with either Raditz dead, or Goku and Piccolo dead.
And the chance of Goku and Piccolo dying was ninety-nine percent!
If Goku and Piccolo were gone, then who would stop Frieza later?
Who would stop Cell?
Who would stop Majin Buu?
If Beerus got a sudden whim one day and came to Earth looking for the Super Saiyan God, was Gou Kong supposed to shoulder that alone?
Gou Kong did not want to face that kind of despairing future.
Moreover, although Raditz's thought process was bizarre, he was still the "little brother" Gou Kong had trained with for years on Planet Vegeta and watched grow up.
If he really had to kill him with his own hands, that inexplicable bit of family feeling in Gou Kong's heart genuinely would not let him get past it.
Save him if he could. Survive if he could.
"Fuck. I get it."
Raditz finally let out a long sigh, as if he had used up all the strength in his body, crossed his arms, and wore a face of utter despair.
Seeing that this guy had finally figured it out, Gou Kong let out a breath of relief inside.
Not bad. At least he still knew the bigger picture.
Raditz took heavy steps, walking toward Goku and Piccolo one step at a time.
Seeing this, the two of them thought Raditz was going to start fighting again. Their nerves instantly drew taut, and they gritted their teeth, forcibly raising what little ki they had left as they prepared for one final desperate struggle.
However, in the next second, they froze.
Raditz stopped in front of the two of them and actually lowered that proud head of his, then began stammering out an apology.
The waves of air around them that had been boiling because of the battle seemed as if someone had hit pause, instantly scattering into nothing.
Goku and Piccolo's eyes went wide, their faces full of disbelief, their expressions more spectacular than if they had seen a ghost.
Well done!
The corners of Gou Kong's mouth lifted slightly, revealing a satisfied smile.
This dumb kid had finally done something halfway decent.
However, relying on Raditz's few utterly insincere apologies clearly wasn't enough to erase the rift between them.
Those two still had wariness and suspicion written all over their faces.
Raditz was an honest kid too. He turned back and gave Gou Kong a pleading look that said, "Bro, I did my best. The rest is up to you."
Gou Kong understood at once, nodded, and stepped forward to stand beside Raditz.
Sensing that unfathomably terrifying aura around Gou Kong, Goku and Piccolo instantly tensed up and subconsciously took half a step back.
But since Raditz had already apologized, they couldn't very well keep up an attacking stance, though their eyes remained full of caution.
"Now, can you listen to me for a moment?"
Gou Kong looked between the two of them, his tone calm yet carrying an unquestionable authority.
"Although I don't really understand what's going on, you probably don't intend to keep fighting, right? But it'll be hard for us to trust you." Goku looked at Gou Kong, then at Raditz, his brows tightly furrowed. "We heard that Saiyans go around invading places throughout the universe, selling off any valuable planets they find. Earth could meet that same fate too."
After all, they had been beaten within an inch of their lives. There was no way a single apology could make all that resentment disappear.
Goku's caution was perfectly reasonable.
"Hey, come on now," Gou Kong said with a shrug. He casually pressed down on Raditz's head just as Raditz was about to open his mouth and argue, forcefully pushing his newly raised chin back down. "Enough. Shut up and listen to me. Yelling isn't going to solve anything."
He turned his head, his gaze sweeping over Goku and Piccolo as his tone grew serious. "First of all, I admit that what Raditz did just now was stupid and reckless. But I can guarantee that as long as I'm here, this dumb kid won't lay another finger on Earth. I can promise you this: if he dares to act out, I'll personally stuff him back into his Space Pod and send him back where he came from. As for me, I have absolutely no hostility toward Earth. I just want to live quietly and peacefully on this planet."
"Wh-what? Brother Gou Kong, aren't you changing your tune way too fast?" Raditz protested indistinctly, his head still being held down, clearly shocked by Gou Kong's "spineless" speech.
"You're too loud, idiot," Gou Kong scolded in a low voice, adding a bit more force to his hand. "This isn't the time to put on airs. If you've got complaints, say them in private afterward. Right now, shut up and listen!"
At the negotiating table, face had to take a back seat.
Getting through the problem in front of him first was the real priority.
