Appearance

Sunset Forest is an immense, densely layered forest whose ancient trees form a canopy thick enough to blot out the sky. Its air carries the scents of vegetation, soil, wild beasts, and Soul Beasts, along with a palpable oppressive presence absent from Soul Hunting Forest 23.

Sunset Forest is far more dangerous than Soul Hunting Forest. Its core region contains ten-thousand-year Soul Beasts, while even the outer regions can present threats beyond Lan Tian’s early capabilities 20.

History

The Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well was known from Lan Tian’s memories of his past life as a wondrous land deep within Sunset Forest. It would later become Dugu Bo’s lair, but at this point in time Dugu Bo had not yet occupied it 20.

Before Lan Tian’s arrival, the Titled Douluo Song Yuan explored the forest in search of an unusual treasure. After later suffering fatal injuries in an encounter with a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast, he returned to a hidden chamber beneath a cliff and left behind his knowledge and possessions 61.

Search for a Second Soul Ring

Lan Tian first considered investigating Sunset Forest at rank fifteen, identifying abnormal neighboring cold- and heat-loving vegetation as a potential sign of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. He postponed the trip until he reached rank twenty and gained the strength to explore more safely 20.

After a week-long journey, he entered the forest’s outer region and spent seven days methodically searching for high-age Blue Silver Grass. He found and absorbed a nine-hundred-year specimen, then mapped the explored area before departing toward Tiandou City 23 24.

Six-Year Survey

Over six years, Lan Tian repeatedly returned to Sunset Forest, marking searched areas, anomalous terrain, and dead ends on a personal map. By this process of elimination, he covered much of the southeastern and southwestern regions and narrowed the possible location of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well 37 40.

During one expedition, he harvested a three-thousand-year Sun-Moon Grass as his third soul ring. Its plant-growth properties helped Lan Tian recognize the potential of his own plant-catalyzing soul skills 39 40.

Discovery of the Icefire Basin

A parchment map taken from a deceased highwayman directed Lan Tian to a previously unexplored deep region of Sunset Forest. The marked terrain—valleys, a sunken basin, and a river—matched his recollection of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well 43.

Following the map, Lan Tian discovered a vine-hidden valley filled with toxic mist. The opposing warm and cold air currents confirmed that the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well was likely within, but the poisonous environment and Medusa Empress forced him to withdraw and prepare countermeasures 44 45.

First Entry and Escape

After developing toxic-mist suppressant medicine and improving his combat abilities, Lan Tian returned to enter the basin. He reached the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well and collected spring water, but awakened the Medusa Empress while doing so 54 58.

Lan Tian escaped the Empress and her poisonous Soul Beast subordinates by using Giant Wood Burial, eventually leaping from a cliff into an isolated valley below 58 60.

Song Yuan’s Legacy

At the base of the cliff, Lan Tian discovered Song Yuan’s sealed chamber. He inherited the Titled Douluo’s Soul Tool knowledge, notes, and spiritual-power cultivation method, then buried the chamber to keep it secret 61.

Using the Silver Moon Visualization Method and the Soul Tool Compendium, Lan Tian later developed a living-storage Soul Tool capable of preserving and transporting celestial herbs from the basin 62.

Return to the Basin

After gaining a poison-immune physique, Lan Tian returned through the toxic mist without suppressant medicine. While the Medusa Empress slept, he retrieved the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum and later secured Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew in his living-storage Soul Tool 65 66.
