Shui Bing'er comes from Tianshui Academy's stable Ice Phoenix martial soul inheritance and is described as the strongest Ice Phoenix wielder of her generation. Her innate soul power was rank nine, and she initially served as captain of the Tianshui Team reserve squad. 8 9

She first met Li Qinglian at Blazing Fire Academy after Huo Wu brought the Shui sisters there. Captivated by his sword practice, she accepted a spar after Huo Wu provoked the long-standing rivalry between Tianshui and Blazing Fire Academies. Although Bing'er used her two soul skills to restrict him, Li Qinglian's Fire Phoenix Entanglement bound her long enough for him to put his sword to her neck. She accepted the defeat without excuse and offered to help him endure his next Evil Fire outbreak. 9 10

During that outbreak, Bing'er identified Blazing Fire Academy's dense fire-element environment as a factor worsening Li Qinglian's condition. She entered the burning courtyard to cool him with her Ice Phoenix power and embraced him when ordinary suppression proved insufficient. Their opposing Phoenix martial souls unexpectedly resonated, suppressing his Evil Fire and revealing their compatibility for a two-person Martial Soul Fusion Skill. 11 12

The pair initially struggled to reproduce the fusion, and Bing'er returned to Tianshui Academy to cultivate. Two years later, she reunited with Li Qinglian at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, where they identified the required balance between ice and fire.
