Background / History
Brian is a transmigrator who entered this world as a fetus. His mother was Italian and his father was of mixed Italian and Chinese descent. His parents disappeared during a road trip when he was eight, leaving him an orphan for the second time across his two lives. 1
After being placed in children’s homes, Brian suffered abuse from caregivers and became involved in deaths later dismissed as accidents. He contacted distant relatives in New York, prompting his uncle Billy Camo to arrange adoption by a kind couple in Los Angeles. Brian initially regarded Billy and the Camo Family as the family he had always lacked. 2
The Camo Family used its criminal connections to place Brian in vehicle appraisal work, then pressured him into abandoning his intended career path and joining the Los Angeles County Forensic Bureau as a forensic assistant. The work initially traumatized him: he spent weeks vomiting after handling mutilated corpses and developed serious psychological problems. 1 2
When Brian attempted to resign, Billy’s people nearly buried him alive. Brian later learned that his uncle had placed him at the Forensic Bureau to prepare for a future task involving the Criminal Experiment Team. He accepted a three-year agreement because his adoptive parents had severe genetic disease and needed costly treatment. 2 3
The Blood Moon altered Brian’s life again. After witnessing it, he began seeing Obsession Orbs above certain corpses and awakened the Gift of the Dead. His ability to fulfill the dead’s wishes became both his means of recovering from physical decline and the foundation of his increasingly violent personal justice. 5 6 8
Appearance
Brian inherited his parents’ striking appearance: black hair, brown eyes, sharply proportioned features, and cool pale skin. As a child, he was described as looking like a porcelain doll; as an adult, he is tall and burly. 1 8
- Black hair and brown eyes. 1
- Sharp facial features and pale complexion. 1
- Tall, broad build despite earlier physical depletion. 8 10
- Often uses disguises during unsanctioned operations, including a hood, pig-head mask, butcher’s apron, and altered clothing. 44 46
Personality
Brian is observant, adaptable, and highly pragmatic. Though he considers himself of ordinary intelligence, he compensates through preparation, forensic experience, concealment, and a willingness to exploit weaknesses in people and systems. His work at the Forensic Bureau taught him how to read injuries, manipulate evidence, and avoid leaving obvious traces. 7 8 23
He is deeply attached to his adoptive parents and repeatedly accepts danger, debt, and Billy’s coercion to secure their medical treatment. His early longing for family makes Billy’s betrayal especially painful. 1 2 33
Brian’s psychological state is unstable. Prior to awakening his ability, he experienced hallucinations, depression, numbness, and violent impulses connected to childhood trauma and morgue work. The Gifts of the Dead ease some of his mental oppression, but also reinforce his enjoyment of killing those he considers “beasts.” 3 10 11 34
Despite his secrecy and ruthlessness, Brian values loyalty. He is moved by Susan’s protection during the aberration test, rejects Aiden’s offer to transfer teams, and recognizes Sixth Squad as his own group. 37 47
Abilities & Skills
Gift of the Dead
Brian’s Aberrant ability allows him to perceive red Obsession Orbs left by certain dead beings. Absorbing an orb reveals the deceased’s lingering wish; fulfilling it grants a reward. 6
- Can receive physical enhancement, mental enhancement, talents, skills, and usable gift energy. 10 11 35 46
- Reward strength varies with the intensity of the deceased’s obsession. 10
- Can experience death memories through the White Space. 10 11
- Can fulfill wishes indirectly; Ellie’s safety completed Emmaline Keller’s obsession without Brian personally confronting Andreas at that moment. 7 8
- Obsessions are not exclusive to humans; he has absorbed one from a mother dog. 14
- Not every corpse produces a usable obsession. 12
White Space
A mental domain connected to the Gift of the Dead, used for processing memories, observing sensory information, and managing his abilities. 11 41
- Initially entered involuntarily through gifts and death memories. 10 11
- Later enters deliberately through focused thought. 41
- Can process Super-Calculation Perception as a three-dimensional mental framework. 41
- Supports the status panel he designed to track his physical condition, talents, skills, and energy. 41 46
Super-Calculation Perception
A talent obtained from Mad Dog Ike that dramatically improves Brian’s perception and observation. 35
- Imprints objects within his field of view into his mind, even when he does not consciously notice them. 35
- Uses subtle feedback from sight, skin, and other senses to build a highly detailed awareness of his surroundings. 35
- Helps him track details during investigations and secretly monitor targets from a distance. 43
- Allows him to perceive anomalous changes during the Aberration Ray Detector examination. 37
Hound Scent
An enhanced sense of smell gained through the fulfilled obsession of Thirteen’s mother. 14 15
- Can identify faint environmental odors, including the earthy scent that revealed the NW interview facility was underground. 18
- Detects the layered smell of blood permeating Billy despite his outwardly clean appearance. 16
- Has potential tracking applications. 15
- Brian can deliberately suppress it to avoid exposing his awareness to others. 16
Wrath
A passive talent that activates under extreme stress or danger, temporarily driving Brian’s physical potential beyond his normal limits. 25 26
- Allowed him to overcome and kill an attacking LAPD detective despite being initially beaten and restrained. 25 26
- Leaves him physically drained after activation. 26
- Its emergence is tied to Brian’s anger and empathy over Emmaline Keller’s fate. 25
Forensic Investigation
Brian’s professional background gives him practical experience in autopsies, body handling, scene documentation, injury analysis, and evidence processing. 1 5
- Performed an independent autopsy analysis that impressed Dr. Henry. 11
- Identified a pre-death chest wound on Kenneth and recognized signs of premeditation in the bombing case. 23
- Uses wound analysis and scene inconsistencies to challenge assumptions during NW investigations. 23 50
- His self-created panel rates his Human Anatomy skill as Proficient. 41
Weapons and Tactical Skills
Brian relies on preparation rather than direct confrontation, favoring explosives, disguises, surveillance, and controlled ambushes. 8 44 46
- His self-created panel rates Explosive Preparation as Proficient and Pistol as Beginner. 41
- Possesses Precision Throwing, inherited through Mad Dog Ike’s skill orb. 35 41
- Trains in marksmanship after joining Susan’s squad, though he initially lacked shooting talent. 19 40
- Uses Super-Calculation Perception to improve observation and support precision attacks. 35
