Background

Wang Ding was originally a man from Earth. He transmigrated by attaching himself to the wounded body of Zhang Teng, a Rogue Cultivator who had died after confronting a yin ghost while seeking Yin Ganoderma for a breakthrough. Wang Ding inherited Zhang Teng’s body, memories, cave dwelling, and basic cultivation foundation, but awakened injured and short on resources. 1

He first focused on recovering the body and mastering its existing cultivation. Living on spirit grain until it ran out, then on wild mountain plants, he trained the Dragon-Elephant Marrow Cleansing Sutra and prepared to risk the Yin Ganoderma Zhang Teng had acquired. 2

Personality

Wang Ding is pragmatic, ambitious, and intensely self-reliant. Seeing overwhelmingly powerful cultivators after his first breakthrough makes him vow to seize his own fate and surpass them rather than remain powerless. 4

He plans long-term, carefully managing spirit stones, pills, talismans, and opportunities. He seeks sect backing not out of loyalty to an institution, but because he recognizes that a lone cultivator lacks protection, methods, and access to exceptional people and resources. 17 20

He is calm under provocation but ruthless toward credible threats. After being ambushed outside Yong City, he kills both attackers; afterward, he treats deception, surprise attacks, and preemptive action as necessities of survival in the cultivation world. 6 7

Appearance

After his breakthrough through Meridian Opening, Wang Ding undergoes marrow cleansing and expels bodily impurities. 3 The Pure Yang Creation Fruit subsequently refines his body into a vajra-like physique, with snow-white, fine skin and a seamless, condensed physical form. 17 18

  • His cultivated physical strength manifests as dragon phantoms around his fists in battle. 38 47
  • After forming magic power, he can briefly float three feet above the ground while radiating golden light. 44
  • Following the Imperial Heaven Infinite Pill, his blood appears crystalline like mercury, while his bones become bright yellow and metal-like. 47

Abilities & Skills

Dragon-Elephant Marrow Cleansing Sutra

A body-tempering martial art cultivated deeply enough to permeate Wang Ding’s marrow. Its techniques provide his foundational close-combat power. 2

  • Flying Dragon Heart Gouge — a lethal hand technique used to tear out an attacker’s heart. 6
  • His unarmed strength allows him to defeat or contend with opponents wielding stronger equipment. 23 38
