Background / History

Song Daokun approached Wang Ding in Sand City's Gathering Source Pavilion, seeking a cultivator at the Meridian Opening Stage to join an expedition to a discovered ruin. Wang Ding, using the alias Huang, accepted the invitation while remaining wary of Song's motives. 10

Three days later, Song assembled Wang Ding, Fang Wen, Shi Mei, and Wei Qiang at Sand City's east gate. He led the party into the great desert, directing them to travel by night and hide by day to avoid the West Province heat. He also warned them about Sand Worm territory and the hazards of venturing into the desert's outer regions. 11

Song's knowledge proved essential to the expedition. He navigated by observing the positions of two stars, located the illusion formation concealing the “Red Oasis,” and led the group to a restricted cave entrance. 13 14 The party jointly broke the weakened restriction after Song explained that his strength alone could not overcome its ability to replenish itself with ambient primal energy. 14

Song recruits Wang Ding and leads a four-person party into the desert in search of an ancient cave residence. His survival knowledge, star-based navigation, and discovery of the hidden formation make the expedition possible. 10 11 13 14

Contest for the Pure Yang Creation Fruit

After the group finds the Pure Yang Creation Fruit, Song agrees to settle ownership through combat. During his exchange with Wang Ding, he deploys Thunderbolt Fire against Fang Wen, but Wang Ding exploits the resulting chaos to steal the fruit. 15

Death

Song and Shi Mei seek Fang Wen's bell-shaped Magic Tool after ostensibly agreeing to leave Wang Ding alone. Wang Ding anticipates their betrayal and conceals the Qingping Magic Sword beneath the bell. When Song picks up the Magic Tool, the sword pierces through his body, killing him instantly. 16
