Background

Lucario began as a Riolu that Roy approached after awakening the Trainer ability “Pokémon Affinity.” Riolu initially examined Roy in silence before accepting his handshake, a response that other prospective Trainers reportedly often failed to receive. 3

As a Riolu, it displayed exceptional speed, strength, and dedication to training. Roy identified its potential early, trained it through Lightning Body Tempering, and equipped it with a Soothing Bell and Weighted Bracelet. 8 36 37 Although it was initially considered comparatively ordinary among its father Rock's offspring because it had not yet awakened Aura Power, its exceptional aptitude became clear after evolution. 86

Riolu evolved into Lucario during Roy's battle against Zhuo Feng's Steelix. The evolution coincided with Roy's need for Popularity, but Lucario immediately proved capable of controlling the immense power of Aura Fusion and used its newly learned Power-Up Punch to overwhelm Steelix. 53

Lucario later trained at Wuji Dojo under the observation of its father Rock and Roy Hao. It adapted rapidly to extreme gravity training, developed Aura Fist, earned Rock's recognition, and gained telepathy through Master-level Aura Power. 81 82 86

Appearance

Lucario is a blue-gray, humanoid canine Pokémon with a slender upper body, powerful legs, and an athletic build optimized for speed. After evolving, it grew to roughly 1.6 meters—about Roy's shoulder height. 53 54

  • Blue-gray fur.
  • Steel spikes on the backs of its hands and chest. 53
  • Strong, agile leg muscles and a speed-oriented fighting style. 53
  • Mega Evolution increases its height, lengthens its fur, adds black stripes and additional steel spikes, and turns its fists and feet crimson. 172
  • Mega Lucario can form a black steel ring over its shoulder, protecting a normally vulnerable point. 173

Personality

As Riolu, Lucario was naturally mature, reliable, self-disciplined, and “like a little adult.” It regulated its own training, rested when necessary, used Energy Cubes independently, and rang its Willpower Bell to motivate itself. 37

After evolving, it became noticeably more composed and calm. It remains deeply loyal and protective toward Roy, routinely scans surroundings for hostility, carries Roy's backpack, and places itself between Roy and potential threats. 54 58 95

Lucario takes pride in being Roy's initial Pokémon and feels responsible for maintaining its standing within the team. It became anxious when Electabuzz's growth threatened to surpass it, and later felt jealous that Mimikyu achieved dual typing before it did. 84 260

It respects strength and values its father's approval, but credits Roy for the person it became. 81 86 In battle, it is often stern and emotionally controlled, though it can show embarrassment when recognized by fans. 96 247

Abilities & Skills

Aura Power

Lucario possesses extraordinary aptitude for Aura Power, earning its reputation as an “Aura Wielder.” Its Aura talent is considered stronger than Rock's and enables unusually precise sensing, combat coordination, and high-output techniques. 55 86 197

  • Detects life fluctuations and potential hostility within roughly one kilometer. 58
  • Senses emotional fluctuations and detects conscious beings, as shown when it identified Mimikyu within its doll disguise. 95
  • Shares a powerful bond with Roy, allowing Aura Fusion. 53 61
  • Can communicate telepathically after reaching Master-level Aura Power. 86
  • Uses Aura to reinforce mental resistance against Garchomp's killing intent. 205

Aura Fusion

Roy and Lucario can combine their Aura Powers, dramatically increasing Lucario's attributes. The technique is described as a lower-tier version of Mega Evolution and places a severe burden on Roy. 54

  • Boosted Lucario's speed and power against Steelix. 53
  • Allowed Lucario to overpower Banette's defenses and use devastating Aura-enhanced attacks. 61
  • Enabled airborne movement and the creation of an enormous Aura Sphere during its match with Panshi. 108
  • Cannot be used freely in prolonged battles because of Roy's physical exhaustion. 131 163

Aura Fist

Aura Fist unifies body, essence, energy, and spirit to improve speed, reactions, combat awareness, and stamina management. 81 82

  • Lets Lucario maintain composure while facing multiple opponents and conserve stamina efficiently. 96
  • Enables rapid, nearly imperceptible movement and overwhelming close-quarters attacks. 108
  • Raised its normal A-rank evaluation into the upper A+-rank range. 86
  • Does not substantially increase raw striking power on its own. 108

Aura Sphere

Lucario's signature Aura technique. It learned Aura Sphere as Riolu due to its exceptional Aura aptitude and later advanced it to Master Level. 28 119

  • Defeated Kadabra to secure the Sheng Hai New Star Cup. 28
  • Countered Dark-type Malice-based attacks, including Weavile's Dark Pulse. 154
  • Can be used as a close-range blunt-force attack when held rather than thrown. 61
  • Mega Lucario's Aura Sphere output was considered top-tier even among Professional-level finishing moves. 197

Power-Up Punch

A move learned immediately upon evolving into Lucario. Every successful hit increases the strength of subsequent punches. 53

  • Compensates for Lucario's comparatively lower raw power as a speed-focused fighter. 53
  • Overpowered Steelix through repeated strikes. 53
  • Was enhanced with Aura Power and Fighting Style to strike through armored opponents. 251

Teleport and “Flying Thunder God”

Lucario developed Psychic-type Fairy Style techniques despite being a Fighting/Steel-type Pokémon. Its Teleport evolved into a low-consumption combat method called “Flying Thunder God.” 152 154 155

  • Teleports with minimal energy expenditure, described as no more difficult than breathing. 154
  • Used Flying Thunder God tactics to defeat Zenia's Weavile. 155
  • Counters opponents reliant on speed, positioning, or pursuit. 171
  • Serves as a scouting and interception tool. 214 247

Terminal Acquisition

A passive predictive ability created by combining Future Sight with Aura-based sensing. 196 197

  • Constantly predicts an opponent's next attack rather than activating only while using Future Sight. 197
  • Allowed Lucario to evade Aihara Take's Flame Meteor Shower with seemingly impossible precision. 196
  • Anticipated Lin Xingchen's command for Dragon God Dive before it was issued. 204

Mega Evolution

Lucario can Mega Evolve through resonance between Roy's Key Stone and its Mega Stone, powered by their similar Aura and accumulated bond. 172

  • Gains Adaptability. 172
  • Temporarily doubles its Aura Power. 172
  • Reaches Professional-level strength, though maintaining the form consumes substantial energy. 172 174
  • Its Mega Evolution initially displayed S3-stage-comparable stats despite being in the first Professional growth stage. 173
  • Mega Evolution later became Roy's publicly revealed “evolution beyond limits.” 205 206

  • Rock / Rock Smash — Father and one of Dragon Country's strongest Fighting-type Pokémon. Lucario sought his recognition and trained under his guidance. 81 82 86
  • Roy Hao — Trainer associated with Wuji Dojo who helped oversee Lucario's Aura Fist training. 81 82
  • Panshi — Older brother and Yue Lun's Lucario. Lucario defeated him decisively with Aura Fist. 107 108
  • Mimikyu — Teammate and source of Lucario's Overlord aura. Lucario initially fought it, then supported its integration into the team by sharing food. 95 96 118
  • Electabuzz — Teammate and competitive rival for the position of Roy's strongest Pokémon. 84 129
  • Blastoise — Teammate who regards Lucario as a “King of a Different Surname” while in the Spirit Realm. 169
  • Mew — Spirit Realm ally whose overwhelming Aura broadened Lucario's understanding of its own limits. 169
