Background

Electabuzz was originally the leader of a small-to-medium wild tribe. The Illuminati captured it, killed its tribe, and designated it experimental subject No. 0131. It endured the organization’s strange-lightning experiments longer than the other captive Pokémon, leaving it deeply hostile toward humans and consumed by resentment toward the Illuminati. 66 74 116

Roy found it imprisoned and injured in an iron cage alongside five other abused experimental Pokémon. Using Aura Power, Roy clarified that the Illuminati—not all humans—were the proper target of its revenge. Electabuzz accepted his aid, used the Super Potion Roy had left for it, and joined the escape from captivity. 64 66

The experiments left Electabuzz terminally ill and unable to use ordinary Electric-type moves. When Director Chen prepared to transfer the experimental Pokémon to a sanctuary, Electabuzz begged Roy for one day to prove its worth. It repeatedly subjected itself to agonizing backlash while attempting Lightning Body Tempering, ultimately adapting its cells to the alien lightning through a reckless, life-burning method. Roy then accepted it as his fifth Pokémon. 71 72

Appearance

Electabuzz was initially a yellow, plug-horned Pokémon with black body stripes, including a lightning-bolt pattern across its abdomen. One ear has a missing notch. 64 73

After its first evolution, it grew to roughly 1.6 meters tall, with golden fur, tiger-like black stripes, a tiger-like tail, five-fingered hands, and a more ferocious, demon-like face. 128

Following its evolution into Electivire, it reached roughly three meters in height. Its gold-and-black coloration remained, while its arms became extremely muscular and two detonator-cord-like tails extended from its back. 218

  • Black markings turn cyan and flash while Lightning Armor is active. 84
  • Its body constantly emits Electric Energy after its first evolution. 128
  • Physical contact can trigger Static shocks. 128

Personality

Electabuzz is defined by extraordinary pain tolerance, stubbornness, and an almost self-destructive drive to improve. It continued Lightning Body Tempering through repeated paralysis, injury, exhaustion, and the burning of its own life force rather than accept its terminal condition. 72 73

Its original motivation was revenge against the Illuminati, but this gradually expanded into loyalty toward Roy and a desire to protect its new team and make its Trainer proud. 116 It is also carefree and emotionally direct, quickly bonding with teammates and openly expressing gratitude or sympathy. 128 231

Despite its persistence, Electabuzz is not portrayed as especially insightful or technically gifted. It achieved Lightning Body Tempering and Lightning Armor through sheer endurance rather than refined control, and initially struggled with the comprehension-heavy Sleep Punch technique. 86

Abilities & Skills

Teralvolt

Electabuzz carries alien, blue-green “divine lightning” associated with Zekrom. The power initially ruined its ability to use standard Electric-type moves, but also gave it unusually high potential. 72 84

  • Can transform absorbed electricity into blue-green Teralvolt. 79
  • Initially caused paralysis, severe pain, and uncontrolled internal damage. 71 79
  • Its eventual fusion with Teralvolt elevated Electivire’s life form to Legendary Pokémon level. 219 230
  • Fully controlling Teralvolt was necessary before it could use paths such as Z-Moves or Fairy Style. 181

Lightning Body Tempering

A dangerous body-strengthening method in which Teralvolt stimulates Electabuzz’s cells.

  • Activates rapidly and instinctively by allowing its internal current to run wild. 74
  • Greatly enhances physical strength, speed, cellular activity, and durability. 74 133
  • Burns Electabuzz’s life force while active; Roy supplies Vitality Blocks to offset the cost. 73 79
  • Its original version lacked precise electrical control and was achieved through destructive adaptation. 72

Lightning Armor

An armored combat state that envelops Electabuzz in high-voltage cyan lightning.

  • Raises its combat evaluation beyond its normal level. 84 86
  • Originally lasted three minutes; after its first evolution, Bolt Strike Mode lasted six minutes. 84 129
  • Causes escalating pain and can blur its consciousness when pushed beyond its limit. 104
  • At level 590, its training generated natural lightning strikes outdoors. 187

Bolt Strike Mode

Lightning Armor’s endurance-focused form, based on Zekrom’s Bolt Strike principle.

  • Enhances close-range physical combat through Teralvolt-coated movement. 84 129
  • Combines with Overlord State to eliminate Electabuzz’s close-combat weaknesses, creating a strength-focused brawler. 133
  • Its completed Bolt Strike became its first usable Electric-type move and scored 724 points in testing. 151

Cross Thunder Mode

A burst form of Lightning Armor achieved by merging Fire energy into Teralvolt.

  • Increases overall stats by 30% and lightning power by 50%. 129
  • Reduces Lightning Armor duration to approximately two minutes. 129
  • Enabled it to instantly defeat Mo Yangqiu’s Blaziken with Brick Break. 132

Battle Continuation

A brute-force adaptation of Sleep Punch that lets Electabuzz convert Inner Focus into vitality while remaining awake.

  • Allows continued combat despite exhaustion and injuries that should incapacitate it. 104 110
  • Unlike Sleep Punch, it does not require Electabuzz to enter a sleep state. 110
  • Raised its strength to A-rank before its first evolution. 110

Static

Electabuzz’s standard Ability.

  • Paralyzed Yang Dong’s Primeape during their battle, creating the opening for a decisive Brick Break. 74 75
  • Makes physical contact hazardous to allies, including Roy. 128

Close-Combat Move Set

Because its Electric-type moves were initially unusable, Roy developed its physical and elemental coverage.

  • Brick Break — signature move; later reached Master level. 74 129
  • Fire Punch — later reached Master level; Fire energy can strengthen Teralvolt in Cross Thunder Mode. 79 129
  • Ice Punch — used to freeze and redirect Water Gun. 79 89
  • Low Kick / Low Sweep, Hammer Arm, Cross Chop, Reversal, Endure — supplementary close-combat options. 74 79 89 103 129
  • Thunder Punch — learned after becoming Electivire and gaining Teralvolt control. 231

Equipment / Items

  • Vitality Blocks — replenish the life force consumed by Lightning Body Tempering and Lightning Armor. 73 79
  • Universal Powder — treated the paralysis-like backlash caused by alien lightning during early training. 71 72
  • Weighted Bracelets — given by Lucario for strength training. 73
  • Customized Energy Cubes — improve vitality, willpower, and Electric-type affinity; notoriously unpleasant to consume. 79
  • Advanced Healing Medicine — prepared by Roy for its Dragon’s Lair journey. 116

Relationships

  • Roy — Trainer and rescuer. Roy earned Electabuzz’s trust by helping it escape the Illuminati, then supported its life-risking training with resources and medical care. 66 72 79 116
  • Lucario — senior teammate and training partner. Lucario taught Lightning Body Tempering principles, supplied Weighted Bracelets, and later felt pressure from Electabuzz’s rapid growth. 71 73 84
  • Blastoise — close “frenemy.” The two have the best relationship among the team despite teasing one another. 115
  • Metagross — poorly compatible teammate; Electabuzz’s electricity clashes with Metagross’s magnetic force, making both wary. 128
  • Zapdos — mentor and friend during the Crown Tundra period. Electivire regards Zapdos warmly, while Zapdos shows subtle affection that Electivire does not recognize. 231
  • Dragonite — companion who transported it to the Dragon’s Lair; Electabuzz empathized deeply with Dragonite’s past. 116 231
  • Regieleki — provided the high-grade Crystal Power that enabled Electabuzz’s final evolution into Electivire. 218
  • Illuminati — former captors and the target of its revenge; their experiments killed its tribe and inflicted its lifelong condition. 66 116
