Background / History
Mimikyu was formerly the Overlord of a small tribe on Akala Island in the Alola Spirit Realm. As her tribe weakened and dispersed, she grew tired of the Overlord life and secretly left with a Dragon Country Spirit Realm Investigation Team while disguised as a Pikachu doll. She had left Akala only about a year before returning with Roy. 250 251
Researchers at the National Pokémon Research Center mistook her for an ordinary doll. Roy recognized that a Ghost-type Pokémon was hiding within the disguise and brought her away after sensing her reaction to being called cute and liked. 94 95
When confronted, Mimikyu revealed herself as an Overlord Pokémon and fought Lucario. Her clone tactics and Overlord-enhanced stamina pushed Lucario to its limit, but Roy used Aura to expose her true body and captured her after an Aura Sphere overwhelmed her final Shadow Claw. 95 97
After joining Roy, she gradually accepted the team through his care, Energy Cubes, and the welcoming behavior of the other Pokémon. Her natural-energy aptitude later made her the central subject of Roy's Z-Move and Fairy Style training. 97 100 118
Appearance
Mimikyu typically appears as a small, crudely made Pikachu doll. Her actual Ghost-type body remains concealed beneath or within the disguise, and the two black circular marks on the doll's belly are her true eyes. 95
- The disguise has a Pikachu-shaped head, though its head area is hollow. 95
- Her true form can retreat into shadows, subspace, and the Spirit Realm. 95 99 243
- When her disguise is broken, it may collapse into a tattered piece of cloth while Mimikyu herself emerges unharmed from a shadow. 106
- She can eat by extending a shadow hand from beneath her disguise. 98
- Seeing her true form is an absolute boundary even Roy does not cross. 186
Personality
Mimikyu is intensely shy, timid, and socially anxious. She fears loneliness and wants companionship, but commonly interprets friendly contact as overwhelming, responding with avoidance, threats, or escape rather than openly expressing affection. Roy identifies her as a socially anxious tsundere after sensing shyness and joy rather than hostility through Aura. 97 112
She dislikes sunlight and being watched by crowds, preferring dark corners or Roy's shadow. During her first public appearance in a stadium, the attention nearly made her flee until Roy reassured her through Aura. 99 104
Despite her defensive manner, she becomes deeply attached to Roy and increasingly accepts physical contact and the company of his other Pokémon. Her desire to protect him becomes a major source of motivation for her later training. 118 186 255
Abilities & Skills
Disguise
Mimikyu's signature Ability provides exceptionally potent camouflage and defense. Even Roy's Aura perception initially could not see through it. 94
- Can withstand a single instance of damage through a disposable disguise. 94 96
- Allows her to conceal her true body in shadows or subspace while presenting the doll as a target. 95 106
- Her disguise can be shed after taking a decisive hit, leaving opponents to attack only cloth. 106
- Her visual resemblance to Pikachu has been used by Roy as deliberate type-based misdirection. 105
Substitute and Double Team
Mimikyu is a Master-level user of Substitute and developed a distinctive multi-clone combat style. 97
- Initially produced four recurring combat clones through her Infinite Nesting Doll Technique, combining Substitute with Disguise. 96
- Each clone could possess substantial combat power and retreat into subspace after defeat before returning with a new disguise. 96
- After developing Fairy Style, she could create a Substitute using 90% of her life force with power equal to her main body. 145
- She considers four full-strength clones the optimal balance between control and energy expenditure. 145
- Later expanded her clone count to sixteen by consuming Vitality Blocks and Energy Cubes. 244
- Her Double Team Same-Life Style was used to confuse Arcanine, though Harsh Sunlight could distort the light-based illusions. 236
Overlord Aura and Natural Energy
Mimikyu possesses an unusually permanent mastery of Overlord aura, a form of natural energy that temporarily enhances her capabilities. 99
- Unlike ordinary Overlord Pokémon, her aura did not dissipate after leaving Alola or after repeated use. 99
- She can bestow the aura on teammates, helping Lucario and Blastoise enter Overlord States and understand natural power. 118
- Her aura substantially supports the immense vitality costs of her clone, Curse, and Disguise tactics. 106
- Under Overlord Ribombee's guidance, she learned mobile Overlord aura and later Aura Burst. 255 257 259
Fairy Style and Ghost Style
Mimikyu is the team's pioneer in integrating natural energy into moves, creating enhanced Fairy Style techniques. 144 259
- Fairy Style Ghost Evasion: Shadow Claw — evolved from Shadow Claw after absorbing Nature Power; measured at twice the original move's power. 144
- Can apply Fairy Style to other Ghost-type moves, including Shadow Ball. 144
- Fairy Style enables natural energy to replenish vitality through Curse, greatly improving her attrition-oriented combat style. 236
- Her advanced Ghost Style incorporates refined jealousy energy through Envy Fire. 222 259
- She later guided Lucario's learning of Fairy Style. 228
Z-Moves
Mimikyu has exceptional compatibility with Ghost-type Z-Moves due to her Ghost typing and Master-level Shadow Claw. 144
- Endless Night's Temptation — Ghost Z-Move learned in roughly three seconds on her first attempt. 144
- Endless Pavilion Night's Temptation — used to defeat two Professional-level opponents in succession during Roy's match against Aihara Take. 161
- Close Friend Bash — signature Z-Move with greater power than an ordinary Z-Move and a charm-like mental effect that weakens an opponent's will to fight and defenses. 228
Curse and Life-Draining Tactics
Mimikyu uses Curse and related techniques to turn natural energy into vitality while draining opponents through prolonged engagements. 106 236
- Mortal Draw — used against Arcanine to drain its vitality. 236
- Destiny Bond — incorporated into sacrificial clone tactics against Heracross. 160
- Her curse-based methods are highly effective against stronger, power-focused opponents but demand considerable energy and vitality. 106 236
Spirit Realm Infiltration
Mimikyu can enter the Spirit Realm without sound or visible interruption, making her Roy's most effective covert operative. 243
- Used for stealth, assassination, and bypassing surveillance. 243
- Attacked Heracross from the Spirit World and tore off its wings. 159
- In Manhattan, defeated a Ghost-type legion, killed its Gengar leader, and found and killed Chang Qi in his dream. 244
Known Moves
- Ghost-type: Shadow Claw, Shadow Ball, Phantom Force, Dark Pulse, Curse, Destiny Bond
- Fairy-type: Play Rough, Dazzling Gleam, Draining Kiss, Moonlight
- Other: Substitute, Double Team, Iron Tail 97 105 106 236
Relationships
- Roy — Trainer and primary attachment figure. His Aura-based understanding of her anxiety allowed their bond to develop from fear and avoidance into trust, affection, and a desire to protect him. 97 100 186 255
- Lucario — Teammate and early battle opponent. Lucario helped expose her clone tactics; later, Mimikyu assisted its understanding of natural energy and Fairy Style. 96 118 228
- Blastoise — Teammate who shared food with her, helping her integrate into the group. 118
- Ninetales — Fellow female teammate. They show mutual understanding, and Ninetales reacts to Mimikyu's tsundere behavior with awareness rather than hostility. 167 245
- Overlord Ribombee — Instructor during the Akala Island inheritance trial; taught Mimikyu mobile Overlord aura. 255 257
- Moltres — Helped Mimikyu understand jealousy through a mental illusion, allowing her to advance Envy Fire. 222

Trivia
- Mimikyu considers the name “Infinite Doubles” correct and angrily rejects Roy's name “Infinite Nesting Doll Technique.” 145
- She was already at her racial stat limit for years before joining Roy, but lacked the stable environment and resources to accumulate power efficiently. 186
- Her Ghost/Fairy typing was initially a major blind spot for opponents because no Pokémon had previously been known to possess the combination. 105
