Background / History

The sect has existed for more than three centuries. Its outer-mountain settlement developed over generations into a mixed community of outer disciples, descendants of prior disciples, protected cultivation families, and the outside force Earthsand Fort, which sought its protection fifty years earlier. 16 51

The Hidden Moon Sect maintains authority through both protection and terror. Cultivation families around the Dark Mountain Range survive beneath its influence, while the Wang Family was exterminated after offending the sect; its ancestral land was destroyed and its members were reduced to mine slaves. 5 61

Its public image as an immortal sect masks an extractive system built on mine labor, contribution points, spirit-stone transactions, and the sale of cultivators’ blood and flesh. Immortal slaves are told that diligent mining can earn cultivation resources, while the sect’s mines and outer-market economy profit from their labor and bodies. 1 2 19 38

• Disciples are formally forbidden from killing one another within the sect; violators may be marked by yin soldiers, fined, or executed. In practice, the Merit Hall’s mission scramble functions as a tolerated arena for crippling rivals. 37

Mountain-Inspecting Ghost Soldiers

The sect’s ghost fog is a patrol of mountain-inspecting ghost soldiers. They investigate demons, evil spirits, and unauthorized cultivators, but the fog’s cold can injure early Qi Refinement cultivators. 16

Double Moon in the Sky

One moon is the true body of the Supreme Yin; the other is an illusion produced during the Sect Master’s cultivation. Exposure to its light or insights can drive weak cultivators mad or make them mentally impaired. 16

Disciples are warned not to think or speak of the Sect Master when the twin moons appear, lest he notice them. 29

Moonlight and the Sect Master

The sect’s moonlight is ultimately tied to Hidden Moon Daoist’s predatory nature. During the Ascension Assembly, his seemingly gentle Dharma lecture and moon-wine banquet were revealed as a trap to feed upon disciples and advance his Golden Core plan. 114 115 119

Soul-Swaying Valley Expedition

The sect dispatched eighty-nine disciples to Soul-Swaying Valley under three Foundation Establishment elders, seeking resources needed for Foundation Establishment. The expedition was especially important because the sect had failed to produce a new Foundation Establishment cultivator in a decade and had declined relative to rival sects. 90

Fifty disciples returned, and fifteen brought back Foundation Establishment spiritual items. The elders considered the expedition a major success and placed the sect’s future hopes on those survivors. 112
