"Ah—!" A scream pierced the sky, startling the birds in the forest and sending them fleeing in all directions.
Ran Mouri's eyes widened as she clutched the blanket tightly, her body trembling slightly.
"Y-you, why are you here? What did you do to me?" Ran Mouri's voice carried a trace of shyness and anger.
"Miss, did you forget what happened yesterday? I was a victim too, okay?" Lin Yu rubbed his waist. That girl had been far too wild last night—no wonder they said there were only exhausted oxen, never worn-out fields.
Ran Mouri's eyes flew wide. Pointing furiously at the door, she shouted at Lin Yu, "Y-you, get out! I don't want to see you at all right now!" As she spoke, she grabbed a pillow beside her and hurled it viciously at him.
Seeing Ran Mouri's rage, Lin Yu knew she was in the heat of anger. No matter what he said or did, he probably would not be able to quell her fury. So he decided to leave the room for now and let Ran Mouri calm down alone. With a whoosh, he darted out of the room at incredible speed, gently closing the door behind him.
Standing outside the door, Lin Yu sighed to himself. He knew Ran Mouri needed time to process what had just happened, and time to settle the anger in her heart. All he could do was wait patiently until her emotions gradually stabilized, then find a chance to talk things through with her properly.
The moment Lin Yu closed the door, Ran Mouri's tears began pouring from her eyes like a burst dam. Like pearls from a broken string, they dripped ceaselessly onto the floor.
Lin Yu stood quietly outside the room, his gaze fixed on Ran Mouri. He knew how turbulent her emotions were at that moment, so he chose to wait in silence, giving her enough time and space to calm herself.
Second by second, time passed, but Lin Yu showed no impatience whatsoever. At last, when Ran Mouri's emotions had gradually settled and she safely returned to the Mouri Detective Agency, the weight on Lin Yu's heart finally lifted.
He let out a soft breath, then slowly turned and left.
When Lin Yu returned home, he found Shiho Miyano sitting on the living room sofa, waiting for him. There was a hint of displeasure in her eyes, as though she wanted to see straight through him.
"Come clean. Where did you go yesterday?" Shiho Miyano questioned, making Lin Yu feel somewhat guilty.
Lin Yu took a deep breath. He knew that if he did not explain things clearly to Shiho Miyano, she might keep pressing him. So, he decided to honestly tell her what had happened last night.
A few minutes later.
"Wife, that's what happened. I didn't want things to turn out this way either!" Lin Yu explained helplessly.
"Heh, so you think you're the one who's been wronged?" Shiho Miyano sneered, a cold glint flashing in her eyes. Her voice was icy, as though it could freeze the air itself.
Lin Yu's heart tightened. He knew Shiho Miyano was genuinely angry. He tried to offer a few more explanations, but the words reached his lips before he swallowed them back down. He knew that whatever he said now would be useless.
Just then, Shiho Miyano suddenly pulled a durian out from behind her and slammed it hard onto the floor. "Smack!"
"Tonight, you're kneeling on that," Shiho Miyano said coldly, pointing at the durian on the floor.
Lin Yu's face went pale. He knew tonight was not going to be easy. Still, he gritted his teeth and nodded stiffly. After all, he really had been in the wrong this time and had made Shiho Miyano suffer a great deal.
