Appearance
The Eight Trigrams primarily manifests as a vast providence cloud spanning three thousand li above the Innate Sacred Sect’s sphere of influence. Its activity is marked by turning spiritual mechanisms, descending spiritual intelligence, and the circulation of Eight-Trigram radiance. 160 568
- Its presence is linked to the sect’s Identity Jade Talismans, though it anchors the cultivators themselves rather than the talismans. 160
- It can spin with extreme intensity when reacting to major events involving sect fortune and cultivation breakthroughs. 372
- Its spiritual intelligence can deliver Dao merits and exchange catalogs directly through an identity talisman. 568
Background
The Innate Eight Trigrams Auspicious Cloud serves as the Innate Sacred Sect’s overarching providence mechanism. In its first recorded appearance, the sect dispatches it alongside a Primal Chaos Treasure Mirror to verify the reported execution of an alleged Myriad Phenomena Sword Sect infiltrator and grant the corresponding Dao merit. The verification unknowingly accepts Liu Dongqing and Manager Qu’s staged corpse and false report. 112
Its deeper function is explained during the investigation into Manager Hou’s defection. Every disciple who enters the sect and cultivates its methods across the Eight Innate Peaks becomes connected to the cloud through their form, spirit, nature, life, and fate. The sect’s decrees therefore travel through the cloud not because an identity talisman is being tracked, but because the cultivator is personally anchored within it. 160
The cloud can determine whether an absent disciple lives or dies, retrieve their natal aura, deduce their whereabouts, and, if necessary, serve as the anchor for a long-range curse intended to erase both body and spirit through the Eight Peaks’ qi and the reversed Five Elements. 160
Manager Hou’s escape exposes an unprecedented failure in this system. Although he remained alive, the cloud could neither trace him nor curse him; he appeared to have stepped beyond the Eight Trigrams entirely. Sect elders concluded that interference from another sacred land or great sect of comparable foundation might be required to defeat the cloud’s tracking. 160
Abilities & Functions
Fate Anchoring
The cloud binds the fates of Innate Sacred Sect disciples who cultivate the mountain gate’s inheritances.
- Anchors a disciple’s form, spirit, nature, life, and fate within the sect’s providence. 160
- Uses the relationship between fate, the eight characters, and the Eight Trigrams to identify and locate disciples. 160
- Determines whether a missing disciple is alive, dead, injured, or otherwise abnormal. 160
- Retrieves a target’s natal aura to support tracking and punitive rites. 160
Decree Transmission and Merit Administration
The cloud is the sect’s primary spiritual communications network.
- Transmits sect decrees through Identity Jade Talismans. 160 390
- Supports reports of enemy kills and the distribution of Dao merits. 112
- Delivered four thousand units of mid-grade Dao Merit and a Golden Core exchange catalog to Liu Dongqing’s identity talisman. 568
- Allows the sect to distribute secret arts, precious medicines, divine-ability restrictions, and embryonic Vessel forms through its merit system. 568
Divination
The Eight Trigrams can reveal a cultivator’s immediate opportunities and affinities through changing hexagrams.
- Thunder Peak Master An Zhixu used the Fortune Cloud to divine that Liu Dongqing’s intent lay in a changing Geng Metal hexagram. 420
- The divination led An Zhixu to provide nine Myriad Phenomena Sword Sect divine-ability treasure restrictions suited to Liu’s Yang Fire Wu Horse Sword Embryo. 420 421
- Its fortune-based recognition can identify exceptional disciples as “dragons and phoenixes among men.” 226
Analysis, Refinement, and Transformation
The cloud’s Eight-Trigram circulation can break down and process Daoist foundations with exceptional precision.
- It dissected Zhao Ruiyang and his Dao Slaves from the origins of their bodies and souls, down to bone structure and blood marrow. 180
- The resulting analysis and transformed foundation strengthened Zhang Qiwei through her spiritual resonance with the cloud. 180 226
- An Zhixu’s Innate Eight Trigrams Rotation cleansing method removed former owners’ body-and-soul origin qi from nine captured treasure restrictions, making them safe for Liu Dongqing to refine. 422
- The complete Eight-Trigram system is capable of refining foreign origin power into nourishment compatible with Innate Eight Trigrams spirit treasures. 793 811
Punitive Curse
The Discipline Hall may use the cloud as the foundation for a final punishment against defectors.
- The sect can use a disciple’s anchored spiritual mechanism to launch a curse without seeking a further response from the target. 160
- The rite mobilizes the qi of the Eight Peaks and the reversed, chaotic Five Elements to annihilate a target’s form and spirit. 160
- This method failed against Manager Hou after the cloud could no longer connect to his fated body. 160
Limitations
- Ordinary treasures that conceal a cultivator’s outward spiritual emissions do not normally block the cloud’s tracing force. 160
- Manager Hou’s case shows that a target who has somehow stepped beyond the Eight Trigrams can evade both tracking and curse-killing. 160
- Sect elders believed only another sacred land or great sect with comparable foundations could interfere with the three-thousand-li Fortune Cloud on that scale. 160
- The Eight Trigrams Path requires genuine completeness to reach its highest harmony. A collection of Li Fire attainments alone cannot raise the other positions to the same peak state as a fully developed innate Eight-Trigram treasure. 502
