Background
Zhong Hao grew up in Konohagakure's orphanage alongside Ji Mei, Da Ye, and Tang Ze Jian. The four were isolated or bullied for different reasons: Da Ye for his simplicity, Tang Ze for his samurai background, and Ji Mei for her poor health. Zhong Hao supported Ji Mei with food and exercise until she recovered, while Tang Ze taught him swordsmanship. They later established a home together in a remote corner of Konoha. 3 4
Born without chakra, Zhong Hao committed himself to taijutsu and swordsmanship. His determination earned the friendship of Might Guy, another youth focused on physical arts, and later brought him under the instruction of Marine Vice Admiral Garp after Zhong Hao crossed into the One Piece world. 4 10 13
His first period in the One Piece world centered on punishing pirates, training under Garp and Bogart, and developing the Six Powers. He became involved with the Marines but repeatedly acted according to his own judgment, including killing a noble who abused civilians and rejecting the idea that World Government rewards should determine his choices. 13 21 32
After returning to the Naruto world, Zhong Hao pursued mental techniques, natural energy, and higher swordsmanship. He obtained the incomplete Yamanaka visualization technique, reached Swordmaster, investigated the Dragon Vein beneath Rōran, and later trained at Mount Myōboku. 98 109 112 143 147
He subsequently traveled through the Bleach world, entering Hueco Mundo as a Shinigami to seek information on blade techniques. There he adapted to a semi-spiritual body, completed the third stage of Spiritual Visualization, and began reconstructing Divine Blade Slash. 127 129 133
Back in the One Piece world, Zhong Hao continued seeking powerful opponents and methods to strengthen himself. His pursuit of conviction eventually led to his breakthrough as a Great Swordsman, while his actions against Celestial Dragons, Emperors, and World Government agents made him an internationally recognized figure. 203 204 242 255 284
Appearance
At age fifteen, Zhong Hao is described as refined and soft-featured, with an appearance that is not overwhelmingly striking but difficult to dislike. 153
- Maintains a slender, streamlined physique through Life Return despite exceptional body weight and physical strength. 29 182
- Typically wears custom-made white clothing in the One Piece world. 203
- Can alter his hair length, physique, and bearing through Life Return for disguise. 183
- His spiritual power can cause starlight to flicker in his eyes when forcibly activated. 245
Personality
Zhong Hao is protective toward those he considers his own. As a child, he cared for Ji Mei's health, entrusted Da Ye and Tang Ze with protecting her, and later worried deeply about the aging of Genghu and the lifespan gap between himself and his companions. 4 243 244
He is independent and difficult to command. His spirit is described as one that cannot truly be suppressed, a quality tied to the extraordinary potential of his Conqueror's Haki. He dislikes owing favors, repays assistance on his own terms, and refuses to let institutions dictate his actions. 11 21 125
Although he often presents a calm, gentle exterior, Zhong Hao is ruthless once he chooses to act. He kills enemies decisively, exploits opponents' weaknesses, and is willing to use intimidation, deception, or psychological pressure when it serves his objectives. 137 160 251
He is also methodical in pursuit of strength. Rather than relying solely on talent, he seeks training partners, tests unfinished techniques in battle, adapts to newly gained power, and identifies his own weaknesses with unusual clarity. 133 180 182 198
Abilities & Skills
Swordsmanship
Zhong Hao is a swordsman whose greatest strength is offensive power. His style appears simple and natural on the surface, but conceals an edge intended to cut through any obstacle. 122 130
- Iaijutsu: Iai Slash — A draw technique inherited from the Tang family and adapted to suit Zhong Hao's own style. 23 89
- Hundred Style — A swordsmanship series learned from Bogart and developed through Zhong Hao's own innovations; includes Cross Slash and Fine Joint Slash. 23 87 89
- Unity Slash — A power-gathering slash that became decisive upon his Swordmaster breakthrough; it killed Uchiha Masaki and multiple Hyuga clansmen in one attack. 109
- Swordsmanship Charge Secret Technique — A complete power-gathering art obtained in Rōran that locks onto an opponent with aura and accumulates sword intent for a peak strike. 113
- Divine Blade Slash — An incomplete blade technique reconstructed through six months of refinement and Gillian battles; it killed an Adjuchas in a single strike at 60% completion. 133
- Unseen Silence Swordsmanship — Allows him to evade Observation Haki detection well enough to silently assassinate a P0 agent. 251
- Limit: Zhong Hao's offense can be countered by opponents whose defenses he cannot breach or whose recovery renders damage ineffective, as demonstrated by Kaido. 234 242
Haki
Zhong Hao possesses all three major forms of Haki, with Conqueror's Haki being especially exceptional due to his soul and temperament. 11 16
- Conqueror's Haki — Can incapacitate large groups; an uncontrolled release previously expanded over an immense range and left him physically and mentally depleted for months. 16 17 87
- Observation Haki — Used for sensing, evasion, battlefield awareness, and identifying changes in an opponent's expression or intent. Its growth is supported by Spiritual Visualization. 47 95 129 164
- Armament Haki — Awakened through sparring and battle; Zhong Hao can combine it with sage energy to enhance his sword strikes. 180 191 234
Six Powers and Life Return
Garp taught Zhong Hao the Six Powers, which he treats as a foundation for physical development rather than his final goal. 13
- Soru — High-speed movement; later refined to challenge Smoker's aerial mobility and evade lethal attacks. 23 24 143
- Kami-e — His most thoroughly mastered early Six Powers technique, used to evade attacks from unpredictable angles. 16 23
- Geppo — Provides aerial movement and is incorporated into long-distance travel. 24 111
- Rankyaku — Used to escape Smoker's smoke trap and attack at range. 24
- Finger Pistol and Iron Body — Used as concentrated offense and defensive/body-training foundations. 13 97 129
- Life Return — Enables control over muscles, hair, and internal bodily functions; Zhong Hao uses it to regulate his physique, train his body, and disguise himself. 13 29 182 183
Sage Energy and Elemental Techniques
Zhong Hao learned to perceive and control natural energy at Mount Myōboku. He primarily treats elemental power as support for swordsmanship rather than a replacement for it. 143 147 125
- Can use sage energy to greatly reinforce physical attacks, including shattering a fifteen-meter boulder with a punch. 147
- Uses lightning-natured sage energy to stimulate his cells and develop Thunder Step. 190
- Uses Thunder Step for extreme bursts of speed, though its early form can cause loss of control and bodily stiffness. 190 254
- Can channel purple lightning through his blade during combat. 204
- Later manifests black flames exceeding ten thousand degrees; they are ineffective against King due to his immunity to fire. 309
Spiritual and Mental Abilities
Zhong Hao cultivates his soul through the Spiritual Visualization Technique, strengthening powers dependent on mental force. 95 129
- His third-stage Spiritual Visualization improves perception, mental clarity, Observation Haki, and swordsmanship insight. 129 133
- Can resist Yin Release soul seals through his spiritual power. 109
- Can invade the consciousness and memories of weak-willed targets with spiritual power. 245 251
- His mental strength allows him to resist the corrupting killing intent potentially associated with Divine Blade Slash. 133
Space-Time Abilities
Zhong Hao is naturally immune to space and time, a trait that also creates a lifespan divide between him and ordinary companions. 243
- Can travel between worlds through endless spacetime. 3 8 155
- Stores objects and energy in a personal space, including weapons, supplies, treasure, and Dragon Vein spacetime energy. 8 152 182
- Obtained spacetime energy from the Dragon Vein to aid his pursuit of spatial comprehension. 112 152
- Briefly froze a collapsing spatial dimension after killing Bruno, discovering a new spatial ability. 279
- Studies the incomplete Sword Twenty-Three in hopes of comprehending the ability to freeze time and space permanently. 243 244
Other Acquired Powers
- Mangekyō Sharingan — Uses its disintegration ability to kill Kaido after freezing the collapsing Door-Door space. 279
- Fruit serums — Consumed Zoan-derived serums to increase physical strength, including Mammoth-Mammoth and Silverback Gorilla enhancements. 182 198
- Restore-Restore Fruit — Grants restoration from injuries for four seconds, potentially allowing recovery even after dismemberment. 300 309
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Sea Fang — A Grade Sword infused with Seastone, used to counter Devil Fruit users such as Smoker. It broke after Zhong Hao's Swordmaster-level Unity Slash. 23 109
- Asayuki Norimune — A Skillful Grade sword Zhong Hao accepted from Lofix before giving it to Tang Ze. 60 80
- Kusanagi Sword — Used to defeat Mifune in a single-move duel. 139
- Bai Lu — A silver-white longsword gifted by Lofix; Zhong Hao later recovered its matching scabbard from a bounty hunter base. 158 164
- Demonic Blade Shura — A Supreme Grade Blade Zhong Hao seeks at Valboro's burial site. 21 181
- Vivre Cards — Used for navigation, including locating the gold shipwreck and pursuing targets. 166 239
- Spacetime-energy reserve — Dragon Vein energy stored in his personal space for future spatial cultivation. 152
Relationships
- Zhong Yunxi — His sister-like mental companion, born from him and residing in his Mind Garden; she advises him on Haki, spacetime energy, Sword Twenty-Three, and multiversal travel, though her manipulative teasing often frustrates him. 3 17 121 243 244
- Ji Mei — Childhood companion and one of Zhong Hao's closest dependents; he helped restore her health and later planned to train her in the Six Powers as his right-hand woman. 4 80
- Da Ye — Childhood companion whom Zhong Hao trusts for his strength and loyalty; Zhong Hao later promises to teach him Armament Haki. 4 315

- Might Guy — Close friend and recurring sparring partner united by their dedication to taijutsu despite Zhong Hao's lack of chakra. 4 103
- Monkey D. Garp — Mentor who teaches Zhong Hao the Six Powers and provides practical guidance on Haki and the dangers of the New World. 13 180
- Bogart — Garp's subordinate and Zhong Hao's early combat evaluator and instructor; his Hundred Style swordsmanship influences Zhong Hao's own techniques. 10 89 181

- He was initially judged by Bogart to possess the strength of a Marine Headquarters captain, despite his young age. 10
- His body is unusually heavy because his food is converted into biological energy and his musculature is exceptionally dense. 29
- He dislikes the taste of Devil Fruit serum, comparing Vegapunk's “improved flavor” unfavorably to an ordinary Devil Fruit. 182
- Zhong Hao does not formally approve or reject the Blade Dragon title, considering it acceptable because it does not sound ridiculous. 255
