Personality

Sanji is fiercely protective of food, cooks, and the Baratie. He attacks Fullbody after the Marine wastes food and threatens the restaurant, regarding both acts as intolerable insults. 21 22 When Krieg demands provisions for one hundred men, Sanji insists that feeding anyone who is hungry is a cook's duty, despite knowing Krieg is dangerous. 25

His compassion extends beyond people: after a sea cow attacks him, he still offers it food and later tends to its injuries. 28 He is also strongly driven by his dream of finding All Blue, which he believes exists despite not knowing its location. 23

Sanji's chivalric streak is especially pronounced around women and those he sees being mistreated. He speaks of his “knightly spirit” when confronting Kuroobi and reacts dramatically to Nami and other women. 22 34 36

Baratie Arc

Sanji is introduced intervening when Fullbody wastes food and insults the restaurant. He defends Baratie with force and works with Aaron to remove Fullbody from the restaurant. 21 22

Luffy invites Sanji to join the Straw Hat Pirates. Sanji refuses because he cannot leave Baratie, though he openly shares Luffy's belief that All Blue may be found somewhere beyond the East Blue. 23 During Krieg's invasion, he upholds his principle that a hungry person must be fed, even when the customer is an enemy threatening the restaurant. 25

After the confrontation with Krieg, Sanji accepts Luffy's invitation and becomes the Straw Hats' cook. 28

Arlong Park Arc

Sanji heals Momoo after their encounter and receives treatment from Aaron after being injured. 28 In the final battle against the Arlong Pirates, he defeats Chew, protects Aaron from Kuroobi, and later defeats Kuroobi after being drawn into the water. 33 36
